I almost perfectly agree with you OP. Comparing to the original, she adds a lot more vocal flourishes and expressiveness which is nice IMHO. I'd rather listen to this cover than the original. The only thing is occasionally one syllable r/l in every 50 is not quite bang on a "standard" American accent. But then again, neither is the original version bang on with a "standard" American accent (the original is ever-so-slightly biased towards an "African-American" accent and the ) so it's a moot point. My ears are overly harsh on non-standard accents though and it's possible other people don't notice it as much.

我是歌手第三季九期里张靓颖表现最亮眼的一次。不提造型（美！爆！了！），首先发音是准的（或说是连贯而舒服的），唱的也十分稳，低音，高音，爆发都很流畅。而我觉得最关键的一点是张靓颖这首歌唱出了和原唱不同的风格：原唱是一种外放的情感，抒发爱意，呼唤回应；张靓颖的则是"Head under water"，窒息的感觉，怎么形容呢，结合她的造型，就像是日出前一刻人鱼公主最后的咏叹。

我用汉语好了。很多人把张靓颖的现场版和原唱比，其实虽然是同一首歌，但两个人在歌曲中灌注的感情明显不同。原唱表达的是对妻子的爱，而且说实话不看MV我真没太听出来。张靓颖的现场版更像是在倾诉心声，表达的是内心的坦然和一种执着坚定的态度，虽然听起来云淡风轻，但感情非常充沛，用心去感受的话很容易产生共鸣。听她的现场版感觉自己与她的情感一下就搭上了，那种感动真的是难以形容。音乐是很神奇的，即使是同一首歌，专业的歌者以不同的感情去演唱，蕴含的意义也是不同的。所以比较孰优孰劣毫无意义，因为从包含的情感上来讲，这已经是两首不同的歌了。不如真正用心去听，也算是对歌手的一种尊重。

她的唱腔很国际化，适合英文歌，即使放在欧美也是一流水准了。但前面有些场发挥失常也是事实，理解她寻求突破的心理，但唱适合自己的歌或许更好些，李健就是个例子。

I'm learning to speak Mandarin Chinese and this is one of my Favorite songs ! That surname Zhang is popular in my practice it caught my attention , then I couldn't believe the song she decided to sing . I practiced really hard today , after doing a DNA test learning I'm 1/3 Chinese it made me even more interested in the culture . This was like a gift for working so hard today .Thank you - Namaste-
