How Arteta's Centre-Backs Exposed Bielsa's Tactics | Arsenal vs Leeds 4-2 | Tactical Analysis
On this edition of The InnerViews, Tyrrell analyzes how Arsenal defeated Leeds United 4-2 in Premier League action, courtesy of goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Hector Bellerin, Helder Costa and Pascal Struijk.
Do you think Arsenal can finish in the top 6?
Do you think this was Arsenal's best XI without Thomas and Kieran Tierney?
Do you think David Luiz and Gabriel is Arsenal's best CB pairing?

Your analysis explains why Holding was dropped whilst in such good form, just not a great ball carrier or distributor. Bielsa acknowledged Arteta had done more work than him, which I doubt he was just cleverer. Great analysis keep it up.
I think the main reason why Holding was dropped was cuz the amount of games he has played and we need him ready for Benfica and City. Luiz was great, our best cb with the ball in play.
@@alexandernikula2133 Holding was dropped because Arteta is a genius

To be honest we are easily top three in the prem on building from the back. We never make mistakes and most of the time beat the press
with tierney, not with cedric at lb
Pablo mari&holding is best duo
Yo this video and your explanation is next level g! 👍🏼👊🏼 I never even knew all.of this kind of stuff man. Very insightful 🙏🏼👍🏼
Do you think Arteta should stick with Aubameyang/Smith Rowe/Saka and Odegaard as his starting attackers?
yes
I'd be dropping Xhaka the moment Partey is fit and move to Arteta's preferred 4-3-3 with Partey at #6 with Odegaard and Smith-Rowe ahead of him
@@hansernst8108 this!!! i would like to see them pairing on hybrid no.8
@@hansernst8108 yes
For now yes. But I still love Martinelli and Pepe the Cat 🐈
Arsenal also used Leno to pass out of the back giving them 3 vs 1 and huge gaps for simple passes.
Amazing work and thanks a lot for the breakdown!

Luiz did create a big chance for Auba when he bumped forward, fortunately for Leeds, Ayling had a good block. We need a Cancelo like right back to play in Bellerin position in Arteta's system. Arteta is showing he is a scholar from Pep school of thought. Full back playing as midfielders when Arsenal attacks.
Great vid
you're an absolute genius! keep it up.
great vid bro i think u should try to collab with some big named football fans on youtube such as aftv cause ur content deserves more subs bro
Best player name pronunciations in the game
Having a center back (Cooper) pressing a CAM (Odegaard) is an awful idea, it leaves massive amounts of space in behind, especially if you are against a front three.
especially with how good Odegaard is in dribbling and playmaking...
For me the key was the Arsenal CB coming out with the ball the space was created by their team mates moving taking their markers with them. As a coach I have have been down to watch Arsenal youth training sessions and they do a lot of 1 v 1 and rondos of course.
Was thinking he must be tired getting these out so quickly but realised I had the speed setting at 0.5 😂 insightful analysis as always!
How drunk are you😭
Pls breakdown Man City Tottenham game
Lol I love your pronunciation of Saka😂
It varies on my mood 😂🙈 lol
What do you think Arteta's XI should be against Benfica?
Depends on who is back, but assuming availability is the same: I would go with Ryan, Bellerin, Mari, Luiz, Cedric, Elneny, Xhaka, ESR, Martinelli, Pepe, Lacazette.
@@hansernst8108 i agree with everything except I’d play Dani instead of elneny I feel like he would be better as someone to add energy towards the end of the game.
based on availability right now, gk leno rb bellerin lb cedric lcb Mari rcb holding cdms elneny ceballos rw pepe lw gabi cam odegaard st lacazette 4-2-3-1 for 1st leg
@@kwaziware Rather have Dani for Manchester City.
@@hansernst8108 Europa important now than the league mate
Leeds had only 1 defender in his right position. This hindered leeds too much. If they had their first 11 out the score would've been different. 👍
Perhaps.

Why can’t we Press Like this every game🤦♂️. Not exactly at this same intensity that’s not realistic. But at least press
Wrote the following quickly after the game. Think we had mostly the same thoughts! Tactical Analysis: Arsenal vs Leeds Arsenal set up this game in a standard 4-2-3-1. Arteta opted for a creative heavy attack with Odegaard, Saka, and ESR supporting the striker Auba. This was key because Auba does not perform well in the center without service. Out of possession Arsenal used a 4-3-3 with Auba drifting to the left-hand side with Odegaard becoming the center forward and one of ESR or Saka dropping back to contain the forward attacking movement of the Leeds FB’s Bielsa set up Leeds in a 4-1-4-1. His tactical plan was a departure from what we’ve seen from Mourinho, Hodgson, and Dean Smith who mainly told their teams to sit back and force Arsenal to funnel play through Granit Xhaka who can not create chances to save his life and slowed down Arsenal’s attack. Instead, Leeds did something you’d often see in Italian football. The double-pivot of Xhaka-Ceballos was heavily pressed trying to prevent Arsenal from building up. Odegaard was often then marked by DM Struijk. This forced the Arsenal players to use one of three scenarios to build up: 1. Bring the ball forward via a CB: This was done quite often and what it does is that it forces one of the midfielders marking one of the midfielders to break their contain to shut that down. If Ceballos/Xhaka couldn’t get open then Odegaard, ESR, or Saka would drop into the midfield half-space to progress play. 2. Long ball to one of the forwards: ESR and Saka were often given the freedom to cut inside and drop deeper and this was difficult for Leeds to pick up because the Arsenal FB’s would often drift forward when this happened to force the Leeds FB’s to stay disciplined. This also had the added effect of forcing the Leeds wingers back as well as keeping Bamford isolated. 3. Play through Bellerin/Cedric: This option was used the least and was also the least effective. Bellerin struggled to link play forward from the wings in the build-up and it’s something he needs to work on. Cedric had a couple of bright moments going forward, but not much really came off. The biggest key for Arsenal’s success is the strong counter-press Arsenal utilized to help set up two goals. Leeds have struggled to beat it with their usual playing out of the back. Very rarely they were able to beat the Arsenal press and test the defensive weakness in the Arsenal team of Granit Xhaka and David Luiz at least from open play. When they did in the second half it resulted in a goal scored from a corner kick when Saka was beaten and the second goal came from Xhaka classically and unsurprisingly falling asleep at the wheel when Luiz moved to cover for Bellerin getting toasted. Overall, a solid win marred by a couple of mistakes that made it less enjoyable than it should have been. We got 4 goals though...can’t complain.
I had a headline for this game it's, "Organized pressing in zones beats man-marking." Man-marking in the style that Leeds does is much more common in Italy than in England because the pace of the game is so much slower and most Italian players (and foreign players who have experience there) are trained to be very tactically aware from a very young age. Trying to implement that in England is a very risky endeavor. Works great against teams like Fulham and Sheffield for example who might only have 2-3 players who are good technically. Doesn’t work so great against teams with good technical players in positions other than central midfield. But yeah, if you can be successful in implementing one of the three alternative ways in progressing the ball to get around the pressure on the double pivot you can get 1v1 chances which is Auba’s bread and butter. I didn’t think Leeds did a bad job with their pressing though. Silly mistakes in buildup combined with an excellent Arsenal counter-press let them down with the exception of Auba’s first goal.
Yeah, I think for the most part this pretty much covers it all! Great job!
You clearly have an agenda against Xhaka
Do you think Arsenal need to keep Luiz next season with Holding, Saliba and Mavropanos come?
I think the current CBs that Arsenal had are starting to build up chemistry, so selling any one of them would hurt them more signing a new one. Maybe Chambers could leave, but I think D.Luiz can be a good backup when they need a good ball playing CB. (unless they can get a replacement or train one of the young defenders to do the same).
Its leeds depleted defence your talking about also phillips missing, it simply made things easier for arsenal to play againts its not rocket science .
Lol that’s an excuse, but sure. I guess those games mean nothing and don’t count.
Bielsa clearly disagrees with your simplistic analysis 🤣
@@ksligh4893 lol that’s nice.
luiz > Holding
I know is trendy among EPL fans to hate on Luiz because most of them have a very shallow understanding of the game and only consider pace and last ditch tackles as “good defending “, but kids remember Luiz constantly have been praise by the best coaches throughout his career. Maybe is because is actually good.
Nah, Leeds just didn't have its midfield (8 injuries) and several players had to perform out if position. Easy job for Arsenal against a mid championship team. There is no point to do a tactical analysis.
They’re in the Premier League...
and Leeds topped the championship last season, not mid table.
