    • @@MichaelSplatkins I played TSW when it first came out and loved SO much of that game. The combat mechanisms were SO fun...but the combat feel...you are exactly right. The combat was SO damn clunky despite the mechanics.

  • The showcase gave me a bad feeling. They showed very little gameplay, combat, multiplayer, monetization plans, or game systems. They talked (for over 20 minutes) about how cool Unreal 5 and the dune lore is (we already know that). The ~2 minute cinematic at the end did not impress me. This feels like a starfield situation. They are looking to cash in on the hype machine for launch and players will realize (after purchase) that the game is not good or even finished. Then customers get the old "Future development blah blah blah". I wouldn't touch this with a 100 foot pole until they actually showcase the actual game. I love the whole Dune world and such but I am going into this hoping for the best while expecting the worst. Reg flags all over this for me.

    • Yea, beginning to think Force Gaming is just another propaganda outlet for games they are paid to promote. Look how they proudly promoted Quinfall before the rest of the internet discussed the truth about the game. It wasn't until the truth was revealed that Force Gaming came out with a negative video towards Quinfall.

    • Ahh, that makes sense. I only watched the recent stream and what they were saying about this reminded me of SWG. Didn't know they'd explicitly referred to SWG as an inspiration. Hopefuly they get it right. SWG could have and should have been the future of MMOs, but the tech wasn't really there for it at the time and then WoW came out and that was that.

    • Same. It sounds like a multiplayer PVP survival game. The term MMO is grossly over used these days - Online Multiplayer is *not* always the same as "massively" multiplayer. It still does my head in that MOBA style games and survival games that are procedurally generated with limited group options (looking at you Valheim and No Man's Sky) get referred to as MMO's. I hope it really is an MMO and I hope it works for them. There's a space in the MMO genre for a game like this... it's definitely not for me, I *hate* PVP... but there is a space for it and a lot of people would love it.

  • As an old school MMO player - and just a player that's old - my concern for this kind of thing is ALWAYS the 'griefing' element. When required-for-progression elements (base building, contested resources that are lootable from players, destructible environments, etc) mix with PVP the game space becomes almost entirely owned by the hardcore grinders. It'll be a shame for the studio and the game if it goes that way; because Dune and MMOs have an enormous audience.

  • This is my second comment on this video, but I have to say this. Force, you are largely responsible for hyping up things before we know much about them. This kind of media drives people to believe the hype and then they ultimately end up getting burned by the whole thing. This has happened several times by this point. Maybe we should break the cycle of the hype-inducing thumbnails and titles that lead us down this path. You play a large role in that stuff.

    • im not really defending clickbait or this guy (I didn't know he existed before like two weeks ago) but that's not content creators fault unless they're actively lying. This guy showed clips and quoted the devs, if it ends up being wrong its the devs who lied not him. IDK anything about this guy but I have been following dune awaking since the beginning and he hasn't said anything the devs aren't saying. Maybe in the past hes lied and added hype over nothing but with this its just that he seems to believe the devs. This game may be a disappointment but I don't think we can expect influencers to do more than report what the devs are saying

  • I have zero expectation out of this game lmao. They are basically selling dreams. They advertise so many different mechanics and gameplay that I'd be highly surprised if they managed to land like a third of them right ... Thousands of people in a single server ? Suuuure .... Tension mechanics with sandworms ? I can already it not working at all in all but name. Endgame is basically PVP aka "there is no endgame but let's advertise one anyway". I've played Conan exiles for a really long time when it was released and also during its first big expansion and they'd need to really step up from that if they hope to accomplish something worth playing that's not already available in the market and has been for years. They advertised so many different things that I basically lost any hope for it. A little bit more and I'd have wondered if they hadn't recruited the guys from "The Day Before" ...

First time I heard the name DOTA was on a Totalbiscuit podcast in 2005 sometime, it was called "Blue PLZ!". Funny thing is he was talking about it with someone else who called themselves Leto. Wonder where he got that name from. Such an obscure memory I even had to google some information to make sure it was a real and not something I made up, turns out it was real.

  • Depending on how much of the game is locked behind the PvP aspects, could determine the game's overall popularity. While PvP does have a fairly large following, keeping the PvE and PvP aspects separate did make several games in the past very popular, such as Elder Scrolls Online, Guild Wars 2, Warhammer Online and of course the grandfather of this genre, Dark Age of Camelot.

IE put some buy orders in >> check in the next day to see your order fills > transport to another market with less of that item. Sell some, craft with the rest, etc. I'm looking at a less hardcore take of Eve/Albion Online TBH.

  • The fact that they are using SWG as their inspiration is awesome! That old game, but with action combat instead of tab targeting, was something so many people have wanted for over 20 years, and hasn't been done yet. Conan Exiles was fantastic, other than the map layout, where you start at the bottom and work your way to the top, then the game feels finished, and it's not that much fun to replay again after. SWG was massive maps, and multiple planets of them, which had a mixture of levels of creatures all over the place, and resources all over the place that you would plunk down resource gatherers, so the whole area of the maps and planets were useful, with no finishing type of feeling for the entire game... Which means you would go back to it.

  • Kinda crafty we get our own straws for friendly fire "accidents". I remember a game called Squad that really had Gankers in the starting area, hope it does not happen here. Do you think the Giant worms will play like EVE Online and take 3 years of work in a single day?

  • Those areas may produce granting ingredients that allow you to create special shit that can’t be got through drops or any farming except you know when they get unveiled, everything has a marketplace, a global marketplace where you can make a special item and put it on for the price that you think it’s worth that’s a win But if they also make it, so that basic items like thumpers right if you can craft bumpers, but it takes a little bit of a time investment, you gotta go out and gather resources to do it then thumpers will be a sellable item. Specially, if you have to find and learn a blueprint or whatever, and if there are different levels of bumpers, you know the basic dumper that may or may not entice a worm away from the area you want to enter and fight in or the high-level thumper that will call one of giant worms into the middle of a battlefield, I think a lot of developers. Don’t know how to do crafting very well.

  • Conan Exiles was rough at times but I still enjoyed the game. If Dune has even a hint of the fun I found in Conan I’ll most likely enjoy my time on Arrakis.

  • Conan Exiles : it took years for the combat (PvP) to become better and more fun, and even now PvE feels clunky and odd. My hopes are not super high, but that developer did make excellent base building systems, crafting, survival aspects.

    • Is there a timeline where all the races just live on Arrakis and they all have no technology so they build it all from whatever they find on Arrakis? Because that's what they described.
