Brian "why even wear a tie" Burke
Yeah, it looks stupid.
Thank GOD I'm not the only one that noticed
It took me reading this comment to notice. Wow that is bad.
He said one time in an interview that he wears the tie around his neck like that because it pisses people off and he thinks its funny that people get mad about it when he didnt really even do anything to make them mad
He needs his mommy to tie it for him. His mommy is long dead.
Brian Burke's hairline would beat me in an arm wrestle.
yup. just not fair
LOL
Hard to tell where his eyebrows stop and his hairline begins.
He's got nothing on wolfman Ray Bourque.
It’s beating me in a staring contest right now 😝
I love Brian Burke stories. He has lived a very interesting life in the NHL.
I like when he came to Anaheim And he made sure JS. Giguere would have the defensive assets to win the Stanley cup
Mountain Bike life 25 can’t complain about that
Took up were the don got chumped off,no bullshit types get it done lol
@Joseph I can really recommend his book that came out last year.
@@funkdoc94 I've read it. Its really good.
He’s holding that mic like a hamster holding his food 🤣
Like the squirrel I'm looking at in my backyard.
And his tie is not put on right
I laughed unreasonably hard at this comment.
Wtf 😂
Lmao!!
You know Burke is thinking "these kids and their tight pants" the whole time.
Lmao
And the tight shirts. Fuck that shirt is atrocious.
Yakupov's career was just like his interview
LOL
Good rookie season then each year was worse worse worse lol
one of the worst first overall picks ever... i will never forget how he mocked Canadian hockey and fans during the world juniors before the draft.. and great job Edmonton, a draft stacked full of top defencemen (which they desperately needed) and you draft an arrogant asshole of a forward who laughed at Canadian hockey
You’re right. It was a terrible choice. I think I heard the team wanted to take Murray but Katz told them to take the Forward(Yak). I like him in his first year but he was easy to figure out. After he first year I said “omg the Oilers could have a 50 goal scorer here” man was I wrong.
He was totally useless lol
I was a classmate of Brian's at Providence College, we graduated in 1977. He was a great guy then as he is today. He has had a very interesting and at times a tragic life. He is definitely the kind of guy you would want to sit around with to exchange stories.
Ahh man. Providence sucks bro 😎
Quick Brad May story: At 18 yrs of age I was at a provincial junior A training camp; I had never played at a level higher than double A and couldn't believe I hung around until the final cuts. Suffice to say I was a bit starry eyed. One day in comes Brad May and he exuded a degree of confidence and respect that I had never seen. During a training camp scrimmage, the resident tough guy (who was most likely on roids--he was huge) who was desperate to make the team challenged the opposing bench to a fight. He just stood there with gloves off and said, "C'mon! I'll take on every one of you." There was a brief pause before Brad May hopped over the bench looking cool as a cucumber and proceeded to pummel the guy. Everyone just stood there with jaws agap in stunned silence. I was amazed to learn that May was only 16 years old. I didn't make the team, but am happy to keep the memory of Brad May assisting on my first goal. P.S. I forgot to mention that I'm writing from my friend's account. Sorry for the confusion. p.p.s. Thanks to Murmuring for pointing out the grammatical error. Edits are complete.
Karen Monahan I read this as being in the last couple years and brad may just beat the shit out of a 16 year old, cool story nonetheless!
One of the better depth players in Canucks history. If it wasn't for Kevin Bieksa and Rick Rypien, he would stick out in my mind more as that type of personality that the Canucks need more of on their team today.
This is basically what I got out of that story. Tough guy: If I pull that off, will you die? Brad May: It would be extremely painful. Tough guy: You're a big guy! Brad May: For you!
When I started reading this story I was a young man... Filled with hope and dreams of a quick story to be read leisurely...
@@bontronblock If it took you that long to read the story, you are a little slow in the head. Sorry about that.
He’s not even exaggerating about Pat Quinn. I had the pleasure of meeting him and he just has such a larger than life presence but yet he was so genuinely nice like a gentle giant. He just instantly earns your respect.
Huge thumbs up on Pat.. I met him several times.. Great guy and a true leader
another great interview! keep up the good work-youre helping keeping some of us sane...
I love these interviews with GMs and behind the scenes stuff
“Straighten up, kid. If you know anything about me you know I’ll move up in the draft for a guy I like. And right now, I don’t like you.” Boss words.
I couldn't believe I saw Burke on the subway -I walked up and said I thought he was the best Leaf GM ever , he shook my hand introduced himself and continued to talk with me about my favorite subject , hockey, and the game, and how it's changed, until I had to exit the train and had go to work .True gentleman and down to earth human ! #entitled!
Brian Burke is just awesome and good for the game. Deep down he’s a teddy bear, a teddy bear who’s been through some tragic events whom we shouldn’t ever wish on our own worst enemy. Keep it going Burkey! Great person
need some hockey action? check out our newest video (especially if you were born in the late 80's/early 90's ;) quack quack) kzhead.info/sun/fdeLmMOopJF-epE/bejne.html
I love this stuff, Brian seems to be opening up more little by little, as he ages. Has some great stories.
If you’re an Oilers fan you’ll remember the “sight unseen, trust your scouting staff” thing when Peter Chiarelli traded for d-man Griffin Reinhart for a mid 1st round pick and a high 2nd round pick. How’d that work out? I’d have fired scout Bob Green for that but I believe he’s still employed by the Oilers? 🙄
barely talked about Yakupov
Cause he's a pidgeon
LOilty thinking Bennett becoming better than Leon was more blasphemous than Nail busting, even with Nail busting wide open 😂🤣 Never thought of Burke as a hockey mastermind for one second
@@MM-tw7pu I wouldn't have Burke GM my fantasy team if he was paying me to do it. Ok I'd take the money but all his decisions would get veto'd.
Exactly, how do you not follow up on the interview almost turning into a fight.
@Jim Hammill How about listening to the other side first before making perhaps misleading conclusions? Yakupov's first season was actually pretty good. However, there was major coach change after his very first season but where... Yakupov wasn't really in the picture for the way the new coach saw his team would operate from then onwards. Thus, there were, for instance, cases where Yakupov was sat on the bench half-time but the very next day with coach approaching Yakupov and say "Hey, sorry, I first saw the mistake so decided to remove you from the game but apparently there were no mistakes at all so my bad". Thus, that's just one point to dispute your claims. Moreover, when Yakupov returned to SKA and SKA's coaches saw him within the team there was more involvement into the play so he did, indeed, had a great season after few years struggling to excel his game in NHL. Thus, all in all, perhaps, there were personal mistakes on his side as he was still quite young, not well versed in politics and stuff like that and.... was predomintanly getting used to North American culture. However, it doesn't change the fact that if someone started talking in the same boorish tione as Burke's talks to their interviewers in this interview, unless others wouldn't be as lackеy as as these bunch of yahoo's who completely ready to suck his cock, not sure if their attitude was any different from Yakupov's... Thus, the point I am trying to make is that if you were to listen to Yakupov's interview and hear his viewpoint is that up until you are in top of the league like, for instance, Ovechkin who's been with his team for years so has an enormous amount of respect, trust and that armour to protect himself from even these coach tricks that would not be allowed by Company owner's if they knew what's going on on a daily basis, the more newer and lesser experienced players, i.e. the more middle level player who are doing 80% of all work for the team to perform, are not really under that protection, especially, say in lower ranking teams as Edmonton at the time when Yakupov was there.. thus, there was no way for them not only to excel at large for themselves but to even to protect at a very minimum in order to play every single game staying in top optimal form and shape at the same time to be able to perform at a maximum abilities.
I like Brian, says what he means, doesn't care what he says, need more of that.
Less in some cases.. cough US administration cough.
Works for Don Cherry,.....er,....oops. Nevermind.
He's actually a nice dude, years ago we did a junk removal job for his daughter in Toronto and he was super friendly and gave me and my co-worker a $100 bill each.
Headcheese Smoothie Another Junker eh?
@@yoyoyo416 I litterally thought you were talking about a vasectomy
My favorite part of this was the part where he says" I wanted to be Pat, so I started to wear cuff links" that's true admiration and props.
why does Burke always look like hes coming home from a bar @ 5 in the morning?
40 plus years of practice lol
lmaoooo
"looks like" lol
@@Aparadam It's so rare and unexpected that somebody owns up to a mistake that I'm deleting my last comment. You're alright.
@@bbb462cid Also deleted my comments. You showed a lot of class.
Good call. Morgan has been the best skater out of that draft, followed by Forsberg
Yakupov was definitely the best
Chris yeah sonk
@@batt7945 SOOOOOONNNK!!!!!!!
You could argue Forsberg over Rielly maybe Vasilevskiy as well. Even as a Leaf fan I laughed when Burke said he had Rielly ranked #1 at the draft. But he turned out to be right.
@SupremePrestige 30-35 goals is average? Wow you're clueless.
1:40 on Yakupov
I love Brian Burke. He’s a genius. Canucks fan here.
Drafting Tyler Biggs was a genius move
How he maneuvered to get the sedins was prodigal!
Burke is such a gem. Brutally honest and a great sense of humor
Great interview 👍. I love spitting chicklets.
not the biggest fan of hockey, but was so fascinated by this clip. Love the intricacies of GM’s processes. Gonna have to watch the whole interview
Need the full interview!
Burkie was right about Brad May being a good interview. I interviewed him as a young journalism student when he was in junior and on the comeback trail after he tore his knee up. So refreshing, candid and an absolute delight to talk to. A real people person.
I feel like I've already seen this clip. Release the full one!
RIP Pat Quinn. Legend
Love it boys keep it coming
i'm friends with brad may and its really nice to hear that burke and quinn think/thought so highly of him. when i'm with and fans come up to him he is more than just polite to them, he truly cares and is always - always - without exception (as far as i've seen) gracious, considerate and giving with his time, focus and attention. he is extremely appreciative of the opportunities he has had in life, hasn't (from what i've seen) taken them for granted and is just an all around good guy who just doesn't have a nasty bone in his body (off the ice). thx for interview.
Wow! I love this "inside" stuff!
I remember myself and several teenage friends meeting Pat Quinn on Robson street somewhere around Christmas 93'. We were all "Punk Rock" Mohawks, leather, spikes ect ect.....I recognized him and said: "Hey! You're the Canucks GM, right?" He was like: "Yeah, how are you boys doing" He had an aura about him so we we're all like "FINE SIR!" And he says, "Alright, Merry Christmas, you boys stay out of trouble" We're all like "YES SIR!"......Hell of a nice guy.....but I wouldn't have wanted to be on his bad side.....That guy could COMMAND respect without trying.
Scripted:l kids come in, who's your hero, my dad. Burke: dads my mentor/idolized him. roflmas
I could listen to Burke tell hockey stories all day. I have so much respect for this man....glad to hear his mentor was Quinn also a man's man.
I love how Brian always drops the tea!

@@alcnassau it’s an idiom used by the teenage girls of Twitter
Cool insight. I had no idea interviews mattered that much
Love it. BB slinging some heat.
Vancouver were lucky to have both Quinn and Burke, some great years. Big respects to both of them!
As an Oilers fan who wanted Ryan Murray and was PISSED they drafted Nail, this has NOT made me any less mad....... I hate this team as much as I love it.
Worst drafting team ever haha
brett Smith ikr, just look at how draisaitl turned out lol
@@marclaventure441 I dont know draisatls a hard guy to judge. He plays most his minutes with mcdavid. But also a bad guy to bring up draft wise since he was 3rd. Look how nugent's turned out one of the lower 1st overall pics of all time. Not terrible but not 1st overall worthy either. The busts for the Oilers are quite a few. You remember Jani rita and how good he was supose to be probably not lol
@@marclaventure441 pulljujarvi great pick at 4rth! Haha

Burke was not a good GM, but his analysis of the game as a commentator is the best in the NHL and has been for years...
Brian Burke is one of the most honest hockey personalities ever.
@Alexandros Nestoropoulos that's weird how you know so much about him and how hes feeling.
Great interview. Burke is a legend.
BRUH being from Minnesota that Edina line about Landy was hilarious 😂
I could listen to Brian Burke stories all day.
Terry Ryan’s story that Biz mentions is hilarious. Tune into his Tales With TR podcast if you haven’t already.
Anyone else think that Burkey would be a perfect replacement for Don Cherry? We need Coach's Corner to return.
No Burke is a liberal lunatic.
Why because he supports gay rights, that makes him a liberal lunatic!? LOL, what a horse's ass comment to make. Jim, you have a great idea there. He would be awesome. Burke is still about tough hockey, which I am in full support of....liberal lunatic. Lmao
@@zalapski9399 stfu you clown
Zalapski that’s what always got Cherry in to hot water was always mixing hockey with politics!!!
@@Ihatecensorship1 I know 2 Maine Mariners that were teamates of Brian Burke and they both told he was far from a tough player. One of them is now a professional hockey scout and he bluntly told me ..that Brian Burke has pulled an amazing act. All he has to do is never smile and comes accross a tough guy...Those guys told me that once no team wanted him in the american league Burke became a player s agent....and all he did instead of sticking up for the players was to suck up to management. Burke was great at that and that s how he moved up the management ladder. He is an american and i wished that he would return to the states and make his living there . I gotta admit the bruins fans stil think he s a genius.
Brian Burke saying he wanted to be Pat. What an honor. Leafs should have never hired Ferguson and let Pat go. Even though Pat hired him to be his boss.
JFJ probably could have been an adequate GM. But as a rookie executive, places like Toronto and Montreal are bad news, especially back then. Ownership was controlling, the fans were ravenous and had high expectations with a demand for instant gratification. Ferguson got eaten alive in that city and dug his own grave with terrible personnel decisions and unwillingness to stand up to his bosses. Had he been brought along slowly in a quiet market, he might have turned out okay. But good lord did he screw the pooch in Toronto. And somehow, his successor was even worse. Bringing in Cliff Fletcher in a transparent attempt to capitalize on nostalgia was an abomination. The game passed him by 25 years ago. He blew up the team for a rebuild but forgot to get any young assets to go with it, leaving the Leafs with Matt Stajan as one of their top line players.
@@AprehamLincoln I remember watching the day JFJ got hired and I knew we were in for a dark age for Maple Leafs fans. It was painful to sit through but to be honest, Pat Quinn also made several mistakes as GM that cost the leafs a few chances to win.
@@AprehamLincoln dont forget the mlse was owned by the teachers union which cared more about making them money before Roger's/Bell bought them out as they realized the killing the can make selling tv subs, nhl tv app, essential bribes that I even took ( signed 3 year deal with Roger's got the s9+ for free plus 2 years of nhl tv for free and it's like 180cad for the year ) but now they got me watching there games and paying for other services. TML will always makes money but a good TML will break records which I'd say were on the right path just need a few tweaks
6:22 had me actually dead
love the Darius kasperaitis mention. as an islander fan I enjoyed his time on the team...not much else to like at the time...my buddy at the time was one of the guys who cleaned his pool . he went there once around 12:30 on a Tuesday...Kasper and mick vukota were sitting around a table on the deck finishing off a bottle of vodka
What a great interview
Love he's interviews
Please please upload the whole interview, we need some Burkey in these trying times🦔
Watched Yakupov play junior in Sarnia & its really sad to hear this. He always was the most energetic guy on the ice & loved doing things for the fans.
His dad ruined a lot then Edmonton ruined the rest
@@dontakeshit yakupov ruined himself
@@iiExiiLeD I think him going back to Russia instead of staying in the CHL before going to the NHL was a huge mistake. I also don't think the revolving door at coach for Edmonton helped him much
@@alex__2265 no definitely not but he also didn't work on defense. He had every chance go play with McDavid but his defensive play ruined him
He was trash and had a terrible attitude

Burke is more than a national treasure, he's a hockey treasure. absolutely a living legend, glad i got to walk the earth the same time as a man like that.
You have to question your priorities
Biz and Brian Burke should take over coach's corner
Brian Burke is the man. Much respect for all he does for hockey
Perfect guy for a new coachs corner!
I really enjoyed Burke he is just so fine.. it's a pleasure every time. Never any bullshit about it more people should do as he has. Class act.. go Burkie.
More Burke!
If you're a fellow leafs fan it's worth watching this just to hear his words of respect for Pat Quinn.
I would love to meet Burkie! He’s had an amazing career!
when Burke said Quinn turned to him and said "we need another first!" regarding Brad May, they did. They had #2 picked Petr Nedved...they also had #18...they picked Shawn Antoski ...May went 14th to the Sabres...
Know this is a long time ago. But listed to this now.. love it! Can you ask Christian Ruutu (scout for Coyotes at the time I think) what Erik Karlsson said in his interview 👌
Love the way he lights up talking about Pat Quinn!
Brian Burke loves to tell this story. First in Tim and sis then hockey central. 3rd time I've heard him put the nail in the coffin.
I love burkey so much I’ll listen to any story he tells
Burke, you're so amazing. The man with one Stanley cup by a team built by another GM.
Holy damn that tie!
He was spot on about Landeskog, thats why hes the youngest captain in Avs history
Love the look: Burke un-tied.
His Pat Quinn comments were awesome 👍
"No free ads" on the water bottles huh Biz? hahaha
first time I saw Burke smile!
I met yakapov And galch in the ohl when they played for sarnia i found galch very friendly i also met gabriel landeskog of the kitchener rangers And he was very friendly
6:00 what is he talking about? he was The Canucks GM in 2003, the 6-8th pick in the draft was San Jose, Nashville and Atlanta. Did he work for any of those teams in 2003? I can't find it anywhere.
can we get like a full hour of this??
I could listen to Brian Burke stories all day
Like to see all of this
Waiting on the full Elliot Friedman interview 🤗
Post all podcast on KZhead
can someone explain to me what, "I've gotta get another first." means? from Brad May?
Morgan Rielly was probably the best player to come out of that draft year. These last few years he's really proven to be a key part of that Leafs blue line. He isn't just a prolific scorer for a defenceman, he has such acute situational awareness and is a great skater. I remember in a game against the Lightning last year, his teammates made a brutal line change which resulted in a 3-on-1 where the Lightning scored. But the one guy on the ice who didn't go for a change was Rielly. He saw the situation unfold and I think actually called for his teammates to stay on the ice. It's one of those little things where even when a situation doesn't go well, he made the right play.
@Marvin Santana Hertl isn't bad, but I don't think he's Rielly. Rielly had 72 points as a defenceman his last full year and was fifth in Norris voting. I don't think Hertl has ever had a year like that. Rielly rivals Hertl in career points and he's a defenceman. He's also become much better defensively, playing a role Hertl isn't asked to.
“you’re not from like edina minnesota” cracks me up lmaooo
I wanna see the interview
I miss Burke as a Leaf GM he got screwed! Met him in person, what a great guy.
So that’s what happened to Ryan Whitney! Man he was awesome for a while. It’s too bad he didn’t win with the Pens in 09
Everytime he speaks, we listen
When Burkie sits down he almost always slightly removes his tie .. lol
Yak and Puljujarvi both have the same attitude both drafted by the same team interesting
Is there a whole BB interview somewhere?
Picking Morgan Reilly is some of Burkes best work. Think of all the bust before Reilly.
Let’s be honest. It was a smart move. Who wants to play for Burke. He’s a smart kid to purposely throw that interview. “He was defiant, obnoxious and sullen” = and Burke didn’t love the kid for that attitude ??? That perfectly describes Burke.
Need more from Burkie....Let’s go Pens!
I wonder if teams just lie and say we had him number one the whole time
I think thats true but in that draft...riley is better than the top 3 so I really believe they had riley number 1
not even a Leafs fan but Burkie totally said it on draft day. i remember laughing at him. he was absolutely right though.
I was skeptical when he said that back in 2012, but in hindsight it wasn't that farfetched.
"Real men wear cufflings." I don't know why, that's the funniest thing I've heard in awhile.
"Cuff links," my friend.
gamacrit thank you for being nice about it!
You know this is gonna be good the second you see Burkey have his tie in "NO F*CKS GIVEN" mode.
This has been brought up so many times on numerous podcasts already. Poor Nail lol
