Quick addition: Celeste was not only killed in the burning of the witch, Monokuma knew that she wanted to be unique and special, so he made her burn. That's why she was happy, she was being burned-- which is a very unique death nowadays-- in a gothic city. But, because Monokuma was evil, he made her get run over by a firetruck at the end. Getting run over by a vehicle is a very common death, so Celeste was filled with despair for her last moments.

I don't know how you can say "underground mafia tennis tournament" with a straight face.
I look forward to next week's underground mafia knitting circle battle royale.
The actual real-life Italian mafia sometimes hosts illegal golf tournaments where they bet hundreds of thousands of Euro and obviously don't pay taxes, they also dominate the illegal car racing scene so idk why a tennis tournament sounds funny to you. In my opinion Junko's by far the most ridiculous thing about Danganronpa.
@@hahmann because tennis isn't the kind of racket (pun intended) people think of when they think of the mafia or one you'd expect to need to be underground, thus making it sound random AF. I’m sorry but Junkos backstory makes so much sense to me because there’s so many real life examples of people committing horrible crimes out of “boredom” or “just to know what it feels like”
It is actually quite a rarity, as most crimes have very distinct underlying motives. However, those who have committed these crimes simply out of boredom do exist, and they are some of the scariest sociopaths to ever walk the planet.
An example of this came out recently. A girl from South Korea murdered someone ''Just to see what it was like'' since she loved watching true crime docus.
I love how every character in this series is solid enough to carry their own story.
Exactly, shows how top tier the writing is and not enough people appreciate it lol
Kodaka actually wrote every character so that they could have their own stories and be the protagonists of their own games. _"When I write my stories, my main goal is to keep myself interested, and write the kind of game and story, and characters, and scenario that I would be entertained by."_ I just now realize after pasting that quote that it's not necessarily about characters but it still fits so im keeping it muahaha
It's why Kyoko and Byakuya had spin-off manga.
Which just makes their deaths sadder cause we spent alot of time with them in game.
Except for all the protagonists ironically enough lol those characters are a steaming pile of horseshit especially the first 2 (shuichis alright tho)

Personally I think the best talent is makoto's luck, because it seems based on survival, in the killing game he was in, so many odd things happened that allowed them to continue, like having a busted door for the bathroom which helped bust leon, makoto also survived a execution that kirigiri didnt. in Danganronpa, i love how every character is extremely different, but it also makes even more sense if you bring every one of them together with the lore. also, the gameplay has a strange thing with building memories and making all that game feel like a fever dream. i remember getting into that game about 3 years ago. now, as im back to knowing the lore and all, it makes it feel even more dreamy. i absolutely love it.
Started playing danganronpa 1 and did a lore dive. It is literally one of the most convoluted stories I have ever looked into
if you think Danganronpa's lore is convoluted, you should look into the Zero Escape series. highly recommend playing 999 on a DS emulator, best way to experience it
In conclusion Junko is actually one of the most amazingly written characters ever and even if her plans failed she’ll always win in the end cuz that’s literally what she wants
Yeah she had absolutely nothing to lose and that’s terrifying
Junko in the afterlife belike: *Task failed succesfully*
Pair Nagito and Kokichi into the best written character mix

she’s insane and i love her a little
Are we gonna talk about how all of this happened because junko was BORED or what?
Fr and no matter how others could out smart her she always knew what was going to happen... Danganronpa is easily one of the best anime to game series to comics story ever made
Well, i needed SOMETHING to do.
cuz she was a psychopath lol
@Itz Riyaaaaa I like your comment. and strongly dislike the original comment, saying all the events in DGR are caused just because of Junko, and her boredom, just sounds so dumb and makes the plot sound very basic and all tho it obviously isn't perfect. it has a lot more to it, plot wise and character wise. like the foundation of Hopes Peak and the 4 men steering it from the shadows.
Well, V3 happened because people were playing that... out of boredom. Isn't it EXACTLY what we do? :P
I just wanna drop a comment and say this is amazingly comprehensive, awesome job
i come back to this video so much, its actually so crazy how well made this video is and how effectively it describes the whole story of danganronpa so coherently (well, as coherently as possible considering the craziness that is the DR story)
Izuru is really underrated in the fandom, and this just makes me realize how cool he really is
Ikr
He's one of my favorite characters because I kind of relate to him in a few ways? I don't mean the whole perfect mass-murderer experiment, but rather simpler things like being bored of life and the things around you and nearly giving in to hopelessness, but giving hope another try and such, you know?
Bruh i just want to know his shampoo and conditioner
I only know Izuru from playing 2 (didn't watch 3 and after finishing v3 I don't know if I will) But I enjoy him a lot
Wait a sec, I noticed a pretty big error in here: Hajime distinctly mentions that "hope" is not the cause he fights for and not the route he chooses to walk on. He pretty much says outright, that both "hope" and "despair" are garbage and that he chooses a third path--> To make his own future independent of those concepts.
Oh damn. That's good to know. Thx
time stamp if you remember?
@@noahleon6549 Around 2:40:50-2:41:50 As for a timestamp for the game: It is Hajimes monologue near the end of the game when he goes super sayan.
I was so surprised when Izone appeared lol thank you for using them as an example 1:28:38

The V3 backstories seems to be absurd to me compared to the original members of the Danganronpa but upon realizing that being the 53 seasons you will run out of ideas and you will try to "stay original" in the end it turned into something that doesn't feel like it is from the same series (I feel that the original people made up these stories it sounds a bit fanfic-y to me)
I guess it's because the main gimmick was audience participation
Well, I don't really like V3, but isn't it exactly the point? All of them are "characters" and made to please the people watching. They were meant to stand out.
Most of the backstories of the third game were definitely unrealistic and weaker, and I'm glad that the twist in the end explained why that was the case. The boring maid girl being a secret service agent/co prime minister for Japanese Donald Trump had me questioning things.
I’m gunna be honest I loved v3 and I did think some of the characters were done very well but I a So just found out it was a “reality tv show based off the game” I don’t like that. My original thought was that it was years later way after the tragedy and the world was going ok but the ultimate cosplayer found stuff about junko and the tragedy, got obsessed with her and worked hard to continue it lol. I know that has a lot of flaws in it now that I think about it but that was my base thought I can’t believe I missed it being a reality tv show I must have just confused it with like the whole “being broadcasted to the world” thing.
@@loganwood1112 there's proof that Tsumugi was lying that everything was fiction
I remember seeing Junto's execution on Animax years back. That was the first time I'd seen a Danganronpa episode and I thought, "Damn this show is batshit crazy." It's only after watching this video that I realized how intricate this story was. In addition to being batshit crazy. Also, amazing video. The condensation was excellent, because even though I've never played/watched the series, the progression I saw was very adequately explained with all the relevant events mentioned even with so little time per character, very nice backstory recaps, while keeping great tempo, I didn't lose track of the video at any point . And also no drop in intensity at the end or complaint about the video length was refreshing.

Legit the only thing I hate about Danganronpa was the fact that Makoto reopened Hope's Peak Academy at the end. Like... did he damn learn NOTHING from everything that happened??? What was the point of re-establishing the exact hierarchy Junko took advantage of? As if everyone is gonna be fine with the elite turning their nose up at the "untalented" again 🙄
True kinda repeating history here.
unrelated but i’m loving the saul goodman pfp
it started cuz of the 'perfect student' thing so,,,
right? for all we know another student would want to replicate Junko's actions and then start another chain of despair...

@@OrigamiAhsoka To be fair, they absolutely should send a robot, just one without a personality and there to be a work unit.

My theory on V3 is it's an alternate reality where Ryota Mitarai succeeded in airing the hope brain washing video. Thus the events of Hope's Peak and the tragedy were believed to be mere fiction. The people being brainwashed by hope quickly grow bored as there's no struggle that doesn't diminish there hope. So they revive the despair based "fiction" Danganronpa in the form of a reality show. This would also explain the audience always choosing hope in their votes, until the very end when the hope brainwashing finally starts to fade.
So that means that all the main cast of Hope's Peak saga is dead?including Hajime?
@@jotarokujo4727 I would assume so if this theory is ever proven true. Though to be fair I don't even give my own theories too much credit as there's little evidence for it. I just thought it was an interesting idea.
@@SamDragontear But how some random soldiers managed to kill the two ultimates plot armor(Naegi and Nagito)and the ultimate Deus Ex Machina(Hajime)?

I'm honestly *so* glad this was made, I have a hard time reading through the wikis to gain a better understanding of the characters since it takes so long- so having something that both explains the timeline *and* the backstories of the characters is sooooo helpful, and helps with developing my own Ocs and headcannons 😊I had gotten back into my Danganronpa obsession, or rather- my Nagito obsession due to some videos that happened to pop up, so again- *soooo* glad I stumbled across this.

I'm mixed on it tbh. I feel like they should have stayed dead as the survivors changed because of their deaths, however, it was nice to see everyone alive again.

I love that you’re using To Zanarkand in this video. One of my absolute favourite pieces of video game music. I would go insane trying to do this video. I love the games. My partner and I played them together last year and loved the first one so much we basically binged all three and would play all through the night til about 9am. I’m usually the one into the genres the series mashed up. I love weird otome games, graphic novel games, longtime Phoenix Wright fan, I love detective games and character-driven puzzle games. My partner will watch me play sometimes but Danganronpa really caught their attention from the start and we played through with me controlling the game while we worked out the mysteries and theorised together and they played the minigames during trials. Genuinely had such a blast together and was one of my favourite gaming experiences.
