This was filmed between 4th and 11th April 2011. I had the pleasure of visiting El Teide.
Spain´s highest mountain @(3718m) is one of the best places in the world to photograph the stars and is also the location of Teide Observatories, considered to be one of the world´s best observatories.
The goal was to capture the beautiful Milky Way galaxy along with one of the most amazing mountains I know El Teide. I have to say this was one of the most exhausting trips I have done. There was a lot of hiking at high altitudes and probably less than 10 hours of sleep in total for the whole week. Having been here 10-11 times before I had a long list of must-see locations I wanted to capture for this movie, but I am still not 100% used to carrying around so much gear required for time-lapse movies.
A large sandstorm hit the Sahara Desert on the 9th April and at approx 3am in the night the sandstorm hit me, making it nearly impossible to see the sky with my own eyes.
Interestingly enough my camera was set for a 5 hour sequence of the milky way during this time and I was sure my whole scene was ruined. To my surprise, my camera had managed to capture the sandstorm which was backlit by Grand Canary Island making it look like golden clouds. The Milky Way was shining through the clouds, making the stars sparkle in an interesting way. So if you ever wondered how the Milky Way would look through a Sahara sandstorm, look at 00:32.

11 years later and still coming back to this video. It is truly marvelous and uplifting. I'll say a prayer for Terje. I don't know where he is, but I hope he somehow reaps the merit for the good he has done by putting this video together.

This video is made by the Norwegian photographer Terje Sorgjerd and it is filmed on the top of the peak El Teide (3718m.) in Spain for 7 days. During filming Terje Sorgjerd has slept only 7 about 7 hours. Thanks for this video! I have no words to express the feelings that rises in me. Thank you!

I don't see how people can think that this was all created by a being. Nobody could conceive a world as beautiful as this. This perfection is only achievable by imperfections coming together by chance. Trial and error created this. Do you think that all the great artists of the world painted their masterpieces in one try? No, it took them days, weeks, and even years, to finish their works. Nothing could make this on a first try, we're just lucky to have the chance to live on the one that worked

Hello, I am from Tenerife and this video is filmed there. The photos are mainly taken in Teide national park. We usually go up there at night only to see the beautiful sky which is not black because you can see millions stars shining over the father Teide (so we call our volcano, the highest mountain in Spain). Man, watching this is just truly breathtaking. Knowing that the world and universe is so vast and that there's so much out there to discover is just amazing. Especially watching the sky and all the stars and galaxies, I just think, there are just countless possibilities out there.

This video has been sitting in my favourites for years now. Periodically I'll come back to it and watch it on full screen. There are precious few things that can move me in much the same way as this video does every single time I watch it. All at once I feel at one with the universe and completely alone, I am larger than life and impossibly small and insignificant. I am not sad or gleeful. I am just content and open, like a raw nerve exposed to the air and numbed by sedative. One video that makes me feel so much and has me crying every time... Thank you so much for years of intense feelings.
When I saw this video I decided to move to Tenerife. Now I am living there and i usually go up to Teide national park to see the incredible starry sky. I am very happy living here because there are beaches, forests, mountains and i love nature. It is true that Tenerife is an international touristic destination and i don't like certain parts of the island, but there are treasures here that i discover every day, thanks for this video. Love Tenerife and the rest of the Canary Islands.
