My Dad liked to have a fire burning brush on our farm everyday it seemed....and he always had a jug of diesel and the Stihl leaf blower to keep it lit 🔥! No electric powered leaf blowers running on "free" electric back then! 🤣
My dad LOVED burning all the insidious cedars on our farm in MO…..no diesel necessary 🤣😂🤣😂🥵🥵🌞

I have a similar project on the horizon, thanks for the detailed documentary! A quick word of caution: wooden electricity poles (at least in my area) are soaked with a preservative, and produce arsenic fumes when burnt… and the poison in the ash is even more concentrated. Stay upwind with the leaf blower :-)

I'm burning several large ash stumps out. I can only suggest digging at the base about 6 inches deep to get below grade. Then use a barrel if small enough, otherwise scrap steel to form a heat barrier. Then feed is wood twice a day morning and evening but not more. 3-4 days will do it. Leave the barrel/barrier for a week it will crater in and completely disappear. Leaf blower speeds it up but not necessary.
I dug about 18 inches down all the way around this so even if it’s sticking up some when I’m done I will bury it and it will be well below ground. The diameter on this was too large for a barrel. Thanks for watching

I've burned lots of stumps and experienced the same thing as you. IT TAKES TIME.... LOTS OF TIME... but it eventually accomplishes the task. I've learned that the base of the tree (stump) is exceptionally hard wood and takes longer to burn. For medium stumps, I've found that drilling holes and putting diesel and/or oil in it and letting it soak for a couple weeks really helps. Then I'll get a couple bags of charcoal to start with and let it burn overnight. That takes it down about 6 inches with minimal effort. Then it's just a matter of re-adding the diesel, letting it soak in, then burning brush on top of the stump until it's gone. Thanks for the videos. They brought back memories.

For cheap and easy you are doing the right thing. You will be surprised at how long the fire will last. One time I heard a guy burnt out a stump and he had to put the fire out after about 4 weeks, so I heard. Thank you and have a wonderful week. One other thing is my Rops bar is on the inside of my cab, so a tool is not in the game plan
Just found your channel, recommended by Chad Doss. My son used charcoal to burn out stumps in his yard. The only thing I saw missing was the marshmallows. Time for chickens, Chad said so. Thank you for helping Chad and Rae!!

I grind stumps as a business, I was cringing seeing you get your tractor up on the hot fire like that, I know you know what the risks are🙈😇 I’ve burned big piles like that adding debris while it was burning it and could feel the heat coming thru cab of tractor, and I was using bucket, then thought man that’s a lot of heat on paint and hydraulic hoses🥵 Great vids, I just bought a Cat 236D skid steer love the content showing attachments and such! I made the mistake of pushing brush onto a fire with my BX and I sunk in the mud with the bucket in the fire. I had to yell for my son to grab the truck and pull me out fast. Scared me to death!
I have dug out by hand, two stumps and it wasn't easy. I mostly used a sawzall with a long blade, a screwdriver, and a hand trowel. My neighbor felt sorry for me after a couple of days of digging and brought over his chainsaw and buried it 30 inches in the ground and cut the large roots off under the stump. Luckily no tap root! I used a 8' X 8"X 8" X 3/8 wall square tube as a lever, with a locomotive chain and three snatch blocks hooked to a 8000 winch and tied it down to a tree. It was tough, but with a little persuasion from my tractor bucket it finally broke loose. That was a 6" diameter tree, not nearly as tough as your tree. The second one was a cherry tree, and came right out with the winch scenario. I soaked the ground for a day before I tried to pull it. For my third stump removal, a 32" diameter elm tree that the power company killed, I hired a large, tracked stump grinder and it took a couple of hours. The power company paid for it and the replacement tree, a nice 4" diameter maple. When you drilled the stump I was hoping for some 2F powder in the holes with a plug, big disappointment! (TIC) I have burned up large logs by using a 52", 120 volt fan, but a couple of large household fans would work as well and save a lot of wear on the leaf blower.

@@RockhillfarmYT ya, I read an article last week that the California EPA is banning all diesel trucks ( from pickups to semi's) built on or befor the year 2022 early next year. Most people don't know this but our supply chain issues started in California and the Long Shoreman's union negotiations with the cities of Long Beach and LA. And then the bannishment of self employement and contract workers didn't help.
This video had it all! Snappy come backs, humorous comments, a relaxing campfire, a brewski (I think) lounge chair, beautiful scenery, a reference to the mythological and elusive unicorn and its buddy the fairy, old and new technologies in the form of air movers and last but not least you who spent the time to take us on this learning adventure! Oh! BTW, I've had lots of luck finding "DynOmite" but no luck finding "DynAmite". I bet it's hanging out with those pesky unicorn fairy things rubbin their legs together to make magic electricity. I've heard the "God O Thundar is getting jealous!

I agree a bag of charcoal for a longer burn. It helped me on a few of the stumps I’ve burned. Coal is more available in the northeast than down by you. Great work, keep up the good content.

You don't have a fuel problem in that fire. You have an air problem. That's why the blower makes it burn higher.
I've heard of people using leaf blowers on stumps before. Seems to me I've seen my dad do something similar. The stump he was trying to burn out was between the house and garage, so not a good candidate for a leaf blower. I seem to remember he took mom's hair dryer to it until it was good and going. That was a long time ago. The tree grew up around an old metal fence, maybe put up in the 1910s or 1920s (the house itself was built in the 1800s). The posts were square and the chain link looked handmade. Of course it's hard to tell when it's inside a tree trunk. Trying to cut that tree broke dad's chain.

Years ago I had a stump that I burned out all I had was a small chainsaw and a shovel. I spent a week burning wood on that old stump and it finally took off and burned down even the roots burned underground I was amazed at how long it took. But you're on a roll you're doing good. lot better than I did 😀

That fire does need a lot of babysitting and attention. Works for your own property but for a customer, not feasible. Hope it works out 💪🏽

I was given most of a 50 lb sack of coal years ago. I had a few big chunks left and figured I'd try it on a big, difficult stump I was burning on. The coal and an electric leaf blower made a big difference. I've looked for a place I can buy more coal but have not been able to find any. Thanks for the video !

This may not be the most efficient use of your time, BUT it looks effective and seems to a good way to clear out some brush piles while you're at it.

Haha…this video had me cracking up Brock. As for the stump, the answer is pretty obvious to me. You should just bring in 300-400 tons of fill dirt with your dump trailer and build up the ground around and over it. Compacting every half inch of course. Your grandson could drive in the last few dozen loads. Nice work. Keep ‘em coming!

I have burned a few stumps. The method I have used is to leave it about 2 feet tall. Then I put a bore cut in the center with a four sided slanting toward the middle. Getting the wood out is accomplished by large eye bolt. It may take a bit of screwing around to get the bore cut out but it will come. Then but a gallon or two into the hole and let it soak for any where from an hour to over nite. Then lighter up. Burns just about all of it. including the roots. Your way looks relaxed though. Good luck.

Shovel. Dig under those roots and let air get to the core. Then, you can pull each root out with your tractor. About three days of burning.

I think the best way depends on what you intended to do in that area after removal. I have tried all methods and my preferred method is grinding them out. That being said, access, surrounding structures, and future plans all dictate what the best method is.
I have used a bouncy house blower with a metal pipe on the end as my blower. Makes HUGE difference in speed of the burn.

I don't know how you get dynamite but you can totally use ANFO (diesel and ammonium nitrate) which is what farmers tend to use. My uncle removed some stumps that way on his orchard.

Watching your stump burning video. Enjoy your attitude and thought processes. Everybody's got a bellybutton and a suggestion on how you should do things. I've got a few suggestions for you, but I've only 1 bellybutton! 1. Dynamite can kill you if not handled correctly! In most states you can't even legally handle or use explosives without a blasters license. 2. Seeding new ground. I put down pulverized yard lime. It's cheap. Then I apply annual ryegrass seed, it's also cheaper than others so called lawn seed mixes. Note: I do this in the fall. It is cooler and the rye will winter well. May not be as pretty as fescue or Bermuda but it'll be green! 3. Stumps are the hardest wood of the tree and have a high density and moisture content. All the more challenging for removal.
