YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THIS EVEN IN A TERRIBLE DREAM! The Viy 3D! Russian movie with English subtitles
The beginning of the 18th century. Cartographer Jonathan Greene makes a scientific journey from Europe to the East. Having traveled through Transylvania and overcoming the Carpathian Mountains, he finds himself in a village lost among the impenetrable forests. Only chance and a thick fog could bring him to this cursed place. The people living here are unlike any traveler has ever seen. These people, having protected themselves from the rest of the world with a deep ditch, naively believe that they can protect themselves from evil spirits, not realizing that it has long settled in their souls and is just waiting for an opportunity to break out. Even in a nightmare, the materialist scientist did not imagine that here he was destined to meet with the faithful servant of the devil.

  • This version of The Viy is visually stunning, but I wish they had remained true to the original story. The original version was both beautiful and terrifying. The best version I've seen so far is the 1967 version in Russian with English subtitles.

  • The folk dresses, accessories, name of the pagan celebration, characters’ names and the locations are all Ukrainian. Whoever translated “ pannochka” to “ mistress” should know better. The actual movie that comes with English subtitles is from 1967. That one was a real masterpiece.

    • @@jackdarbyshire5888 Yeah, that doesn’t answer the question I asked. I tried that, and it still comes up with multiple versions that are not the English and English dub. Viy or forbidden empire both bring up the same thing, because it’s the same film, just with different names. But, there is a Russian dub, and a few others, including French I Believe. The English one is the hardest to find.

  • hmmm... i watched the original yesterday. i loved the quirkiness and simplicity of it... it was cheesy and charming... this new film is pretty much the opposite. i get it that it would be nice to have a sequal follow-up, to maybe explain some of the things that don't make sense in the first film... but i found the story a bit too convoluted and unmagical... and the scientist character annoyed me... he didn't need multiple wigs... and a true cartologist from the 18th century probably wouldn't be so concerned about fashion when going on expeditions in the wild.
