    • I was thinking the same thing. At least start out as a position coach in the NFL so he can teach his methods to receivers coming out of the draft on how to run routes. He could be a gold mine of information for DK Metcalf, but make no mistake, there's a world of difference between the two. Size is #1. DK has a lot of ballast to swing around and so he's gonna have to be QUICK enough to make these cuts and tweak his routes midstream. Baldwin can teach him, just a question of whether that was ever in the cards in Doug's mind.

    • Yeah if he was on the Patriots nobody would know about Edelman or Welker. Baldwin is like the Jerry rice of slot receivers except he doesn't have the numbers since he's in a conservative offense. Just look at what Tate has done since leaving and we kept Baldwin because he's better.

  • Doug Baldwin is a perfect example of how less physically talented players can be elite. He openly admits his weaknesses and doesn't try to force himself to play to his weaknesses. He's a perfect how average-above average athletes can become elite at their sport.

    @thedragonking5033@thedragonking50335 жыл бұрын
    • I mean he's a pretty elite athlete. He can only do this to people covering him because he's quicker than them. Quicker than other elite athletes. If you're just an average to slightly above average athlete I'm afraid you have no chance in the NFL. No matter how smart you play the other guy will more than make up for it by being the superior athlete.

      @tommydashed4205@tommydashed42055 жыл бұрын
    • I'm talking about in terms of NFL players, his only real elite trait is quickness.

      @thedragonking5033@thedragonking50335 жыл бұрын
    • Not really. He is physically talented. He's just a smaller and thus more agile athlete. That type of athlete has different pros and cons than a larger, more powerful, but less agile athlete. One is not inherently more or less talented than the other, they're just different types. Frank gore is 5' 9", like a lot of running backs, usually the smallest guys on the team. They're not less "physically talented," they just have different pros and cons than larger ones.

      @questionful@questionful5 жыл бұрын
    • Diego Hemken I see your point, but physically compare Julian Edelman and Tyreek Hill, who would you say that both of them are equal in physical talent(Speed, Quickness, Vertical, etc.)? Doug Baldwin went undrafted for a reason, but he worked hard enough on things like route running and his hands and used the physical gifts he was given(Agility and Quickness) to be a top receiver.

I'm not sure if it's a common thing for WR's to do, but that's just pure intelligence to have that in mind and to be able to go back and look at over the years how DB's have evolved so he can adjust accordingly. • So much respect for boldwin, always prefer a skill and hard work over talent. We need more content like this so folks can respect the game for what it is, a chess match over just a bunch of guys slamming into each other.

  • Now that was adult conversation. He was a technician of the highest order. He does not have HOF numbers, but should feel nothing but pride for all that he accomplished. I hope he takes talents and uses them for the public good !!!!!

  • It's interesting that the only reason he's in the NFL is because Richard Sherman, his friend and former teammate at Stanford, told the Seahawk coaches that they should take a look at him. He was off everyone's radar because he had injuries and didn't have a good senior year, but Sherman knew what he can do. Sometimes it's not what you know, but who you know.

  • That's why I call him Dougie Fresh. He is one of the best all-time off the line of scrimmage. That move he used to take Norman out of his jockstrap is probably my favorite move. Norman was reaching for a ghost. #89 is THE most underrated receiver in the league. That boy good!
