In the truck world has been a dispute for a long time. Which truck is better? American or European? Let's do a hard test.

  • Euro Truck "Lorry" Advantages: Quick at the launch & handles much better in tight corners due to a lighter body & shorter wheelbase - Shock absorbing cab design provides some comfort during hard landings & bumps Disadvantages: Cab-forward design makes it more prone to frontal damage from hard impacts - Frame's Suspension geometry is stiffer which negatively effects bump absorption. American Truck "Big Rig" Advantages: Full Steel body & frame can take a heavy beating but still keeps going - Extra axles & more wheel torque help out with hauling uphills - Higher ground clearance & soft suspension absorbs most bumps & hard impacts Disadvantages: Immense front-heavy weight distribution & longer wheelbase makes it harder to slow down & steer into tight corners - Longer wheelbase also makes it more prone to chassis flex

    • Also worth noting, based on experience with ETS2 and ATS (which both seem to be pretty accurate wrt specs), European trucks tend to have more power, and American trucks tend to have more torque. Both of these trucks had their horsepower boosted to be equal, minimizing the engine differences. The explanation I've seen for why European trucks have more HP is because, overall, the EU is more mountainous than the US, at least in percentage of land area.

  • That ol corn-binder (trucker slang for International) gave it her all but just couldn't match the lighter more nimble MAN. Our trucks in the US, especially the pre-2000's, weigh a ton more with the increased frame length and sleeper size due to DOT Regs, but damnit do I love them for the old school look, dominating presence, and the sound. Wouldn't mind having the option though here in the US for some of the Euro trucks. They look neat, Scania especially for their style, that heavenly sounding V8, and their turning radius.   • I don't truly know enough to compare a European semi truck to our American semi trucks, but truth be told some can truly take a beating and a ahlf and keep going. This is awesome!

  • To me, its never been a question of what is better. Both are made for where they are to work. American trucks are better suited to the long distance relative straight roads and large open loading areas. European trucks are perfect for the smaller windy roads. They are both 👍

  • If It would be an hour and a half version, it would have been an improved remake of the Duel (1971) movie. Only this time the duel would be fair - with two trucks. 😁 And if we think more seriously, I think with the same engine power and cargo weight, then an American truck would have an advantage, first of all, when climbing uphill and on the ground. A European truck should be faster directly at an even distance. But it is also important that the American has two axes, while the European has one.

  • Los camiones europeos son mas elegantes, es lo único, ya que comparten casi la misma potencia que los camiones americanos, clásicos cowboys. Aún no he visto el final de este vídeo y no se el resultado, pero sigo siendo fan de los camiones europeos, como Scania y MAN, entre otras marcas.

    • Most EU countries have a length limit on the truck and trailer, thus requiring a shorter vehicle. As well due to the smaller and tighter streets on euro streets high cab trucks are preferred to navigate. There is admittedly less room for the driver to live in his vehicle, but most trips for EU truckers tend to be shorter term than American. American trucks are built around longer distance hauling, the long bonnet helps fit a large straight engine layout and makes on the fly maintenance easier, it also means that if the engine starts overheating towing up hill in an arid environment the engine isn't right below the drivers ass. As well more space inside for the driver to sleep Australia for example uses both types. Modified American style trucks for long hauls in the outback where there are poor roads, and no opportunity for rest in a hostel next to the road. The shorter euro style trucks with comfy suspension are much easier to navigate in cities along the developed coast.
