Restoring my Grandma's old 1994 Ford Ranger 4.0 4X4 that I learnt to drive on. Frame was too rusted to save, so I bought a complete identiacal parts truck!

  • I know you won't see this, but a few weeks ago (august 2021) had to replace the gas filler hose on my '92, which requires at least lifting the front of the bed. DO replace the filler hose; they disinegrate. The fun story is that I didn't have a T50, so I trundled down to the local neighborhood cheap tools you know where and grabbed a set. Got 3 of 'em, but the other 3 rounded. Took it up to my favorite shop, wondering how I wasn't going to have to drill them out; Steve pulled out his Snap-On bit, and out they came. LESSON: sometimes cheap tools don't do it.

  • Tip for the frame if you haven't worked on it yet. Sandblast like you mentioned. After that you can apply a product called All Metal for the pitting to get it smooth. It's like bondo only tougher with metal filings mixed in it. Downside is it may not take to powder coating. I am unsure of that. If not just epoxy primer with chassis paint. Edit: oops, my internet is slow right now and I made this comment while I paused to let it load. Left comment to give you and viewers a bit of knowledge.

  • Just metal prep and POR-15 it. That frame is better than any Ranger I've owned. The fact that the box is in tact after having a box liner on it all it's life is a absolute miracle.

    • Starlink is still in Beta, can't wait till they get the full service running, then I'll get one to do event streams from drag tracks. The Beta limit is that they've locked which area each subscriber is in to a 'cell' about 25x25 km in area, mostly to get accurate link test data, and full version will let people move their units around anywhere. Your 250Mbits service, is two and a half times faster then our "National Broadband Network" here in Australia.

  • YES!! Ranger content!! Having the parts truck is a great source for the parts/fasteners/wiring, etc. for a fraction of the cost. Bonus that most of the A/C stuff is there. When I did my efftwofiddie, I used two trucks, it saved my ass since I could cut the siezed bolts on one truck to save a bracket, then destroy the bracket and other surrounding bits on the other truck to save another part that was needed.

    • Agreed. Having owned several Rangers, 94-96-00-06 that frame was in excellent condition compared to the North East. Should have had the frame blasted (dustless blasting), coated it in POR-15 followed by the separate top coat, new hangers, leafs, shocks, lubbed the spare tire carrier and called it, long weekend job. Did that to my 96, has held up great for over 3 winter's. There's something to be said for keeping with all original Ford part's tho, and may keep more to the spirit of the truck.

  • Oh Sarah. Reel in the OCD - that truck and its frame are perfectly restorable. Descale it with the sand blasting, coat with some rust reformer, give it an oily rag and let it wear the pitting with pride. It's allowed to show its age!

  • All those clips and brackets are EXACTLY why you want a whole parts car/truck. If you'd just gotten a frame you'd have paid a fortune for all the little crap you need. I owned three VWs once, and I used two of them for parts to complete the best one.

  • Great footage of unbelievable scenery. My first Mustang had a 351 Cleveland, loved it.

  • Great video. What I find amazing is the greenery that Mother Nature has started back growing. 👍🏻
