  • Basically this is a great video *but* it is *very* annoying to hear, that you have to subscribe like, and hit the bell, every 30 seconds. Every time it's said, I'm less likely to do it. Especially when I'm supposed to "get luck". Sorry but nope.

  • Okay so to correct them on the last one about the "Flower Mantis" category - 12:07 is an orchid mantis 12:27 is a spiny flower mantis 12:31 is a wandering violin mantis 12:38 is a metilia (sp) dead leaf mantis 12:43 back to the spiny flower mantis 12:45 orchid mantis again you'd think they'd bother to do their research. if someone got these as pets and didn't know they were different species, the differences in diets could've potentially killed the little thing..

    • I know!! It's called a deimatic display, they try and look striking and intimidating to potential predators to deter them. Mantids are super cool because they're often a unique combination of deimatic display on the one hand, and aggressive mimicry on the other (when a predator tries to look harmless to attract prey, such as the orchid mantis Hymenopus coronatus). Frickin awesome! Check out the Devil's Flower Mantis (Idolomantis diabolica) they're unreal.

  • I've had a lot of mantids and they are really cool and fun to keep as pets, I lived in an area where during spring or summer you could find them all over your yard. They are easy to care for, just keep them in a nice enclosure with water some places for them to hide and climb on, and of course food. It also helps to take a spray bottle and just gently mist their enclosure maybe once a day or every other day, just to keep them humid. For food, I've tried a few different foods and the best food to get them in my opinion is crickets. They are easy for them to catch and are cheap, they also can vary in size, so if you have a smaller mantis you can get smaller crickets, and if you have a bigger one, you can get bigger crickets. Another thing is, mantids can of course bite, their mouths are very fascinating to look up close at, but I have never had one bite me. I have had a feisty female before but still, she never bit me. I've heard that it doesn't hurt that much, kind of feels like a gentle pinch or tingle. Since they have long sharp pointy things on their front legs, or their "praying hands", I have been poked a few times, and I will say it hurt the first few times because I wasn't expecting it but I think I was being a little dramatic because after a while it just feels like like a little pinch. I hope this helped if you are looking to keep one as a pet!

  • Monarch butterflies technically aren't endangered anymore they are considered to be of "special concern" since the efforts of some humans are the only reason they aren't endangered currently when they were only a few years ago. They also can't technically be kept as pets (aside from the caterpillars) due to their yearly migrations.

  • I would've loved to see a disclaimer to let people know that some of these creatures are quite rare/endangered such as the flower mantis, some variations of this mantis can be kept as pets such as the orchid mantis but they are almost always wild caught. When buying insects it is best to buy from a reliable breeder to prevent diseases and such. Unless it's species that plentiful in the wild then I'd say go ahead. Species such as for example the orchid mantis are starting to decline in the wild hence making it important that whatever specimens there are in the wild stay in the wild. Keeping insects is also not as easy as it sounds. Some have very specific needs like any other animal. I'm once again coming back to the mantis because this video shows a lot of cool shots of a mantis eating life prey and while this is good enrichment for them it's also not recommended as your mantis might get harmed in the process. It's best to incapacitate the insect you plan of feeding your mantis first so you're sure it won't harm your mantis.

I was amazed since we were on a major highway almost to Rehoboth and they were everywhere. Apparently it was part of their migration route. It was so cool. And yet an odd dichotomy. When the song ended the monarchs learned the name of the band ‘The Beatles’, oh wonderful singing insects and yes, these two madcap lovers would indeed follow the singers request, “Why Don’t We Do It In The Road”, however, I was watching them and carried them to roadside oasis.

  • Enjoyed the video - nice to see some film of moths and butterflies. I'm not sure whether they could or should be kept as pets purely from the fact I've heard that their wings are covered in tiny scales and touching them would surely damage their ability to fly. I love moths and butterflies but wouldn't dream of touching them for this reason.

      @IllusionQueen4Eva@IllusionQueen4Eva Жыл бұрын
    • Really you shouldnt touch their wings either way, they are very thin and without them they can't do much of anything However as long as you avoid the wings holding them is rather harmless! Especially since most larger moths are less likely to just fly off it's relatively simple to just left them come to you
