Today I toured the Acura NSX factory in Marysville Ohio to understand how each NSX is painted and what makes there Andaro paint package a $6000 upgrade over base paint. This is a behind the scenes looks at the build, paint, and assembly process for the 2018 Acura NSX (and soon to be TLX). The Andaro paint package comes with 18m of paint!!!! Which is insane for a production vehicle. Hope you enjoy! -Larry

  • History of the uniforms is actually more interesting than just for teamwork. Post WWII many workers didn't have access to clothing that they could wear to work or getting that clothing was a hardship. The solution for just about every Japanese manufacturing company was to provide workers uniforms, provided a benefit to the employee and had the additional benefit of team building. Guess all that money on my MBA finally paid off.

  • Those numbers actually change after the paint has fully cured. The manufacturer recommends 60 days before applying any sort of wax sealant or PPF to the paint. The Andaro for example after fully cured becomes about 10mm of paint. At 18mm the paint has not cured 100% yet. Hence the example Keith had at the bottom of his white board at the beginning of the video. Nice video!

  • Honda went crazy with the paint! Good to see they went the extra mile. If I had the means of getting a "supercar", I would seriously consider the Honda over the usual fanfare of McLaren's or Ferrari's. That's if I wanted to keep the car for the longterm. Alot of people tend to get these things and sell them in 3-4yrs... Don't see the point.. but to each their own.

    • Ford GT has way better paint than this. Its painted by hand not by a robot.

      @Jimmyxsx@Jimmyxsx5 жыл бұрын
    • @Lassi Kinnunen they only compare it to the Million dollar hybrids because the system is setup roughly the same. Also, chances are very good this hybrid supercar will outlast any of the million dollar limited editions. Keep in mind, I'm only making this comparison to what they claim. Yes, the probability of a person picking 1 of these up and driving it almost everyday (weather permitting aka countries such as Canada, people will probably store their vehicles) is far higher than anyone picking up a 918, P1 or LaFerrari Reason why the press wasn't all that impressed is mainly because they've been announcing the arrival of the NSX for about 7-8yrs now. So if you keep building something up for that long and you finally get to show it off, you expect it to be the next best thing since sliced bread. Nowadays with these journalists getting access to all these super expensive one offs, if you stick them into a somewhat "normal" vehicle, of course they're going to be jaded. It'll be a vastly different experience if you take someone who doesn't have access to all the manufacturers and then you ask them for an honest review. Bet that person is going to really regret getting back into their own vehicle. Where are you living where you can find 3 really big houses for 260g's?? I went to the website to spec what the NSX would be for Canada. The total came out to $230G's CDN before taxes. So about $250g's CDN. That kind of money barely gets you a down payment for a normalish size house around the GTA... :-( The process of painting doesn't differ. What differs is the amount of paint used. Wouldn't be surprised if the car weighs about 50-70lbs more just due to the added paint you can option out. Hopefully the added protection is enough to keep those pesky rock chips from forming... ;-)

    • @@popkahchin never better? honda was the first to sell luxury car in north america. in the GT race, honda have the most smallest engine in its class and they always come in 2nd, follow by toyota in 3rd place. nissan being 1st place most of the time.

    • BlueRice I’m not talking about how fast they race and stuff and also Honda f1 engines are one of the most unreliable. I’m also talking about quality wise. Nothing comes close to Lexus or Toyota when it comes to reliability. My uncles own many Honda sedans and they always have problems and one even more ridiculous.. I remember it was a HONDA JAZZ, my uncle bought it brand new and after 2 days, the surface of the seat came off and I believe it was because of the glue inside was not good. Okay so ,my uncle sent it to Honda repair shop to get it fixed to only find another problem and it is from the speaker..... like come one... nobody got time for endless troubleshooting. None of my relatives have any annoying issues with most Toyota cars even the 20 to 30 years old Toyota Land Cruiser. The shell might look dirty and sometimes rusty but it works like charm. That is the quality I am talking about.

      @popkahchin@popkahchin5 жыл бұрын
    • @Nat N yes likely a defect, since it also had circle marks on it. It's more a joke on the way the video was filmed to show the attention to detail, then they let that in. It just doesn't match. Especially how they transitioned between the guy and then talking about the lengths they go to in the same breath. It would have been the same if a worker dropped a tool or slipped on the floor. I don't know why they left that in. Makes it funny though.

    @Doggepp@Doggepp5 жыл бұрын
    • Doggepp It’s microns. The general thickness of a paint job is a little more than that of a piece of paper.

    • @BootyBOT Well, why dont they say microns instead then?

      @Doggepp@Doggepp5 жыл бұрын

      @Doggepp@Doggepp5 жыл бұрын
    • It’s a traditional U.S. measurement of 0.001”. Pickup a micrometer and treat yourself to the base10 number system.

      @rickw.9298@rickw.92985 жыл бұрын
    • nglettiere yes, and more specifically, the U.S. standard measure of length & thickness within the manufacturing industry. Ex: a 4 inch diameter auto piston is expressed as 4.000 inches +- 0.002 inches. Any piston manufactured must be between 3.998 inches and 4.002 inches to be acceptable. In spoken language this is a 4” diameter piston plus or minus 2 mils tolerance.

    @grantroberts4231@grantroberts42315 жыл бұрын

    • Good question. Because 19 mm is almost 3/4 of an inch, or the thickness of plywood lol I was thinking that was way off

      @josorio211@josorio2115 жыл бұрын
    • Mil is not metric, so not a millimeter. It is a measurement of an inch. In the U.S. the thickness of paint is expressed in mils. One mil equals 1/1000 of inch. The rest of the world expresses coating thickness in microns. 1 micron = 1 millionth of a meter and 25.4 microns = .001” inch or 1 mil. So for example, you should not remove more than .5mils of clear, which would equal 12.7 microns.
