Simone Biles Being The GOAT Forces New Olympic Rules

2024 ж. 18 Мам.

Simone Biles is already one of the all-time greats in women’s gymnastics but she continues to push herself to new heights. However, she’s not getting rewarded for it, score-wise. The five-time Olympic medalist is so dominant that the rules of elite gymnastics intentionally put her at a scoring disadvantage. In an effort to deter other gymnasts from trying skills they are not physically capable of doing, the International Gymnastics Federation watered down the value of a new element Simone Biles plans to do. It really shows she’s in a league of her own.
She knows this but she continues to do moves no woman has ever done. Going into the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, she’s been training new moves knowing very well they will be underscored. But she’s not doing it for the points, even being underscored, she is miles ahead of her competition. As her final year in elite competitive women’s gymnastics, Simone Biles is pushing herself because she can. She’s doing it for herself. Straight out of quarantine, Simone has wasted no time proving that she's still at the top of her game. The Olympic gymnast posted a video of herself debuting a new move: a triple-double dismount off of a balance beam.
We will be cheering her on, will you? Do you think Simone Biles is one of the greats? Do you think it’s unfair for her to be graded less? Let us know in the comments. For more videos like this one, subscribe to The Things Celebrity.

  • If you're not able to do these skills without a high risk of injury, just don't do them. Your coach should be smart enough to say: "Sorry, the Biles is too dangerous. You're not ready". I mean I'd understand if Simone's skills were completely weird and uncalled for, like spinning on her head or doing a beam routine on top of the high bar. But no, her skills are the natural progression to the current ones. Did they think nobody ever was going to add an extra spin or twist to the ones they do now? Ridiculous.

    • Agreed! There are certain skills that are inherently riskier than others, like the Thomas on floor where the skill presents direct risk to the head and neck. But a modification to commonly competed skills should not be treated as fundamentally riskier. As the video points out, if athletes are doing skills dangerously (with poor technique) the deductions they receive will create the natural discouragement to compete them. There is no need to punish those who excel. Funnily enough this mentality reflects how central planners (government) treat the economy. #nonaggressionprinciple #voluntaryist

If FIG is " worried about the danger" of some skills, why do they in the COP reward a sheep leap or ring so high? The gymnasts are required in the BB routine to do a leap where they have to take their eyes off the beam. How dangerous is that? Yet everyone is required to do it.

    • Simone is a 24 year old adult in a sport with a lot of abused children and teenagers who might get pushed by their coaches into breaking their neck. That could be the concern. Most female Olympian gymnasts are under 18. Remember when we had 14 year old gymnasts doing great in the Olympics? Like dominique moceanu. The Olympics changed the rules and made 16 year old age minimum requirement. So it's not like the sport hasn't changed rules before. It sounds like they are trying to protect children with this new rule. Teenagers will do dumb and extremely risky things.

      @stevencoardvenice@stevencoardvenice2 жыл бұрын
    • @@stevencoardvenice While I agree with you for the most part, you would have to admit though that EVER SINCE, before Simone was ever a name in gymnastics, coaches have been 'pushing' their charges to do skills either they are not physically or mentally ready to do. This did not start with Simone and nothing FIG does will stop this. Parents need to be more involve in the whole training process if only to see what is going on and there needs to be more training for coaches that leans in a direction decidedly different from the coaching of old a la the Karoyli's. Not giving Simone's skills or that of any other gymnast for that matter the value they deserve will not stop others trying to do more because that is what ALL sports are about, pushing the boundaries. Simone is an outlier and her skills show this. They should be rewarded accordingly and HEAVY deductions should be given to everyone who attempts similar skills but perform them poorly. THAT should be enough of a deterrent.

Biological differences between men and women is the whole reason we have separate sport divisions; men would dominate most sports otherwise. What’s happening to the African women is unfair. She is neither the only one with undervalued skills nor does she have multiple ones being underscored. Her beam dismount is undervalued but not her vault. This has been happening for years and multiple gymnasts have seen their difficult skills watered down.
