Dmitry Bivol did what had seemed impossible over the past decade. The light heavyweight titleholder defeated consensus pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez to retain his belt on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) had lost only to Floyd Mayweather, in 2013, in his decorated career. All three judges scored it 115-113, seven rounds to five for the titleholder. Boxing Junkie had it 116-112 for Bivol.
Bivol controlling that distance is second to none

Being a complete fighter is not easy in boxing. Bivol achieved this, a coordinated dancing movement throughout the entire area of the ring in defense and attack, a great ability to withstand the opponent’s blows, high physical fitness, quick and accurate strikes as if they were done with a surgeon’s scalpel, an effective defense that did not relax throughout the match.
And he has iron chin too..
You sure know boxing. These are the skill sets of Bivol. I will just add that his counter boxing skills. He fires back almost everytime he is hit.

115-113 shows why you need to win at least 9 or more rounds to get a win over Canelo. Anything close and he's getting the decision. He got 114-114 against Mayweather from one judge and he lost every round. It's hard to root for the privileged fighter.

As a fan you should always want the better fighter on the night to win and with Canelo he's gotten gifts vs Trout, Lara and GGG. The Mayweather scoring was scary to get a split decision loss. Canelo is a cool guy, but the corporate machine behind him is what I dislike. Same for Oscar DLH in his prime.

Judges tried hard to give the fight to Canelo but instead came up with a ridiculously close points decision which should have been investigated, not just by the authorities but by the legal profession too. It is hard to give any credence to the judges scores that could possibly be construed as honest judgement so there can only be one alternative.

Canelo is a naturally medium sized guy. In fact, Canelo is a small (height wise) Super Middleweight.

God gave him a great chin that’s why but he should’ve been KO’d and for sure knocked down. Last Saturday’s Canelo would’ve outdone Bivol. One of the reasons why Canelo couldn’t connect was because gas outage. If Bivol fights the exact same fight literally, against a Canelo like last Saturday? He will lose and could be by TKO. The score evens out once Canelo stamina goes up. What ever he’s lacking because of size and reach discrepancy etc. it evens out with more stamina, which evidently it also means more speed bc that’s what happened last Saturday. This is the first time Canelo has build endurance significantly. Never before. It was his major weakness.

Bivol did good work off of the jab, circled Canelo all night and kept the fight in the center of the ring. I think he hit Canelo hard enough to get his respect and to keep him from coming in. When Canelo did tee off on him, Bivol kept his arms tucked in for body shots and his hands in front of his face for head shots. Bivol had a gameplan and stuck to it the whole fight. They tried hard to give it to Canelo but Bivol was too effective this fight. Canelo's head was big in this fight because he is used to getting gift decisions like he did in the GGG fights.

Bivol is probably disappointing to many fight fans who are more accustomed to a heavyweight who usually wins by knockout. He is a boxer, primarily, and actually wins by doing something usually found in the lighter weight classes: he oupoints his opponent. He fights like a lightweight. But he wins, and he happens to be excellent in all the facets that make up the "sweet science". Excellent footwork, conditioning, and strategy. Good elusiveness and defense. He scores on and on. He's not going to make every fight fan happy, but there's no denying his skill.

We.all need to keep in mind he went up to fight the champion in that weight class very tough for any fighter. He took a big risk and preformed well, if you noticed how tired canelo was a few extra pound make a big difference if you have not trained and fought at that weight for long. Regardless of training camp the real fight is always going to be more intense. I believe if he fights h again it.will be a different performance

In the beginning you can really see canelo fighting dirty trying to tire out and possible damage bivols biceps by throwing weird hooks at them. But Bivol realizes this and makes the adjustments by staying out of range enough to avoid them.
Bivols footwork and volume punching was too much for Canelo.
Why nobody is talking on Canelo not throwing his left hook like he did with Caleb Plant? it's pretty obvious he is just using his right hand for the big power shots. When he uses the left hand is never to the head of Bivol, and not with the same confidence like the right hook. He had a bad injury since the Plant KO that was a big factor in this fight. Great strategy by Bivol, even tho he is just too big for Canelo, is like Bivol fighting Usik, wich, of course is not happening because Canelo is daring to be great and Bivol just fighting a smaller fighter

Yes sir. I noticed that the day of the fight. Now as I rewatch the highlights. I can see why Bivol won’t give Canelo the rematch. If Canelo would of won that fight. He would of been fighting for the undisputed at light heavyweight against Beterbiev. Something we all know Bivol don’t want.

Besides, the guy is from Russia and has little chance of making big money. If the prize is right, both Bivol and Beterbiev won't hesitate to fight for a unified LHW. For the Bivol/Canelo rematch, it is Canelo's demand that Bivol not to get the share of the potential income. That is what prevented the rematch. If Canelo is going to fight Bivol in his weight class, that is too much for Canelo to lose.
There was another boxer named Dmitry Pirog that guy was very skilled. Last time I saw him he put a beating on Daniel Jacob, I guess he had a back injury and retired.
