    • Thats an uncoated machine tap. If its somewhere between M8-M10 hole size then you can go from around 320-800RPM for HSS machine taps. About twice that for coated ones and if you are rich enough for a carbide one you can go as fast as the drill lets you go. There are also faster "standard" taps but rare

    • Using the nut to lock the threads does not help the fact that this tiny and unbalanced threat is going rip out far faster than a peg that goes through both sides of the post. This design is a weak joint prone to failure under force here.

      @JoeGator23@JoeGator23Ай бұрын
  • The threads will pull out when you tighten the nut. The allthread is already sagging. In any case, you drilled the hole to big, the tap barely did anything, hence, little to no metal bur in the tap. Great method though, wrong drill bit.

  • What's the point of the nut when it loosens the same direction as the bolt? Surely if it was to come loose they'd just unscrew together in unison? To me it seems the nut is only useful if there's something the other end of the bolt.. or have I missed something?

    @Fletchlie@FletchlieАй бұрын
    • Since the hole is threaded, the bolt threads in and then the nut acts like a lock nut, putting pressure on the bolt so it won't back out. ie; the nut, when screwed in against the steel surface pushes against it, and also pulls the bolt, thus helping to keep it from rotating out.

    • Depends what you use it for, and actually in this case, you can't count just the threads in pipe wall, a nut counts too. In fact, without nut and pipe threads being tight, nothing happens. I hope you understand how this is not a 2mm thread connection.

  • The only think wrong was not to counter sink the drilled hole, which would eliminate the burr left from tapping, he put oil on the hole which is ok, tapping at high speed is the way to go. Fewer broken taps, this is soft steel, no problems here.
