I remember last year, Rashford forgot to track back, and Ronaldo was left to play as a temporary LB. People say he can't press, but he fulfils more of his defensive duties than our other attackers.

His thinking is silly. Man U lost 4-0 to Brentford with Ronaldo up top. Against Real Sociedad he failed to score a goal. Even against Sheriff the only goal he scored was a penalty. I'm not saying Ronaldo has lost his touch, his numbers last year are proof that that isn't true, but perhaps ten Hag's system of fast counter-attacking football just doesn't suit him. When your results have been better without him, you'd be silly not to keep him on the bench! Look at Messi. He's starting for one of Europe's best teams, a team that has repurposed him as a playmaker rather than a goalscorer. He's capable of scoring plenty, just look at his last season at Barça or his form with Argentina. He can still score, but for PSG, he plays much deeper, a role that suits both him and the club. Ronaldo either has to adapt his game to suit Man U, or switch to a club that can play to his strengths. Atletico's defensive style might be a better fit.

Notice how the other attacking players suffer when Ronaldo joins the team? Happened at Juve, happened at United, happened in reverse for Benzema who's been thriving ever since Ronaldo left.
