Sunday saw the 96th Academy Awards ceremony in Tinseltown and as expected 'STUNTS' didn't get the category they so richly deserve. They did get a montage dedicated to them though, but only because 'The Fall Guy' movie cast were on hand to do a tie-in....discuss

  • To borrow a British phrase.. it's always been a sticky wicket. Most of the original stunt people preferred anonymity over fame from what I've read and seen. I wholly AGREE with you on this, and not having seen the '24 Oscars, I feel it was basically shilling the upcoming "Fall Guy" movie. Much needs to change, for sure.

  • When I saw the stunt tribute at the Oscars I had two opposite feelings, I was elated and appalled at the same time. Elated that they gave recognition to stunt performers but appalled that that was it. It was a well meaning gesture and insulting at the same time that this is all they think stunt performers deserve. Keep highlighting this issue. Casting is a job not an art. What's next, an Oscar for best craft services?

  • Well said. It is a travesty. It says a lot about "The Academy" and their mutual back-slapping. I prefer to re-frame the whole fiasco by thinking "why would such vital and incredible performers have their work sullied by a pretentious, rigged and over-egged popularity contest?". It doesn't solve the issue but it at least helps me come to terms with it.

  • I worked as a stuntman and stunt coord for 25 years. A fellow stunt friend won an award for technical achievement (an airbag innovation). He was given a certificate in a private ceremony and told he could BUY an Oscar if he wanted to. It would cost $5000.00, but it would only be 3/4 the size of the Oscar "the important" winners received. A little insight into their mind set and ego. The academy doesn't like stunt performers and sees them as whiners, ingrates and a necessary evil...And to be honest, from what I have seen from some of the stunt community over the years (bickering, in fighting, backstabbing, etc.), it really doesn't help their cause or case. The only way you will see a stunt Oscar, is when some heavy hitter producers, directors and stars force the issue.

  • Award for best trailer, best poster, to add a couple more 😊 Most of those seem to be made by AI, see how bad they have been for so many years, but bringing an award for it would maybe “motivate” the studios to make more efforts? 🤷🏻

  • Youre absolutely right.. However, you might have the most dull delivery..

  • Why doesn’t directors like Steven Spielberg and actors like Harrison Ford and Arnie speak up about it ?

  • What annoys me about The Oscars, beyond the obvious is the fact they do stupid segments in the show when they can clearly add categories for Stunts. I have been a fan of stunt people for years and I follow a lot of stunt people on Instagram and thank them all the time.

  • There's a Fall Guy featurette that has the record-breaking 8.5 cannon rolls by Logan Holloday filmed on a beach in Sydney, Australia. Casino Royale Aston Martin held the record previously. David Leitch described stunt performers as "the ninjas of the movie business" so hopefully, if the Fall Guy is good, it will raise the profile of these ninjas 🥷

    • My best friend tried to beat the record on the fifth gear tv show; I was meant to be in a police car chasing him around the closed road before he "hit the tit", but the producers could not secure the insurance for a second driver. Having seen the footage he was so close, Logan pulled that roll out of the bag and its impressive, and to be awarded for a film stunt would be an honour. Also there is a dirty little secret that Hollywood producers do not want the public to know, is the use of face replacement, the public do not care if its during a stunt, but stuntmen are doing reverse/french shots, driving shots, long distance shots which are not stunts and productions are locking down that information, and possibly scared that that information would come out, producers get twitchy if stuntmen are seen in press shots with tracking markers on their faces.
