    • I had the pleasure of training with him when he was a brown belt after he won ibjjf worlds in the gi. I could tell even then, like "this guy is a little different". He just had an aura of something special.

  • If Lachlan was the breakout star of 2019, Giancarlo was definitely it this last go around. With Gordon making gigantic waves at ADCC, I think Giancarlo's incredible performance kind of gets overlooked. Great work by Flo in shining the spotlight on Giancarlo and I look forward to all the great things he'll do in the future.

    • @@dcn92123 I would be fine with that, but (almost) no one wants to compete at a tournament where former black belts commit violence on a bunch of newbies because they weigh the same or are the same age. Do you also propose that karate, tkd, judo, and bjj use velcro or buttons to keep the gi top closed, or go sambo style and color coordinate?

      @Spiritof_76@Spiritof_7610 ай бұрын
    • @@Spiritof_76 I think the belts are necessary, any form of identification will be manipulated by coaches who want to show off their blue belt who is clearly black belt level. There are teens who are better than most black belts will ever be. Most realistic people know the belts aren't a real indicator of anything other than time and dedication.

  • 8:07 I just wanted to comment on what Johns saying here- not that I even know jiu-jitsu- I’m just a fan. But just from a couple of decades as an ice hockey player, there are transferable ideas there. One coach taught us when I was a U16, that it’s important to see the game from the eyes of your opponent. And when your doing that, imagine the LAST f*cking thing they want to see from you. Now you do that thing, and you do it as though it were your number one move, over and over again because one factor to defeating a team is introducing a state of frustration in trying to execute their game plan. And believe it or not, it’s actually much easier to accomplish that, than it is to ignore it and simply try to impose your own game plan. I just thought that was an interesting comparison. Cheers.
