What if some of the things you’ve been taught about the Bible are actually MYTHS? Things that, if you went back and looked at scripture, would look very different than the stories you heard as a child or the tales others have told you?
The truth is, there is actually a lot of misinformation out there about what the Bible actually says. And today, we’re going to explore four specific myths that have been proven wrong in this episode of Misreading Scripture.

Misreading Scripture is a series that takes common scriptures and helps you to see them with a new set of eyes. Many of these are scriptures we have been innocently misinterpreting. And once we gain insight into the culture and context of the passage, all of a sudden it becomes clear in an entirely new way.

  • My personal problem is that when I learn the truth about certain scriptures, I make the mistake of trying to correct people, instead of allowing the Lord to do His work. I want to keep learning, but also to walk in love.

    • Engaging in the correction of Exegetical inaccuracies is justifiable, provided it is executed with a compassionate demeanor and a commitment to walk i the Spirit. Our responsibility to uphold truth mandates a courageous defense, even when met with resistance or aversion. Our corrective efforts manifest an authentic concern for the individual undergoing correction. This demonstration of care is rooted in a sincere commitment to fostering intellectual growth and ensuring the integrity of scholarly discourse and the respect of context.

  • I believe when isaiah prophesied about Babylon, he by the Spirit also referred to the spiritual rulers & principalities over Babylon in the spiritual realm. This i believe is the pattern in most of the Bible prophecies. They refer to the physical & factual, also to the unseen realm behind the curtain for that particular subject

    • This is absolutely true and is the way prophecy was understood and presented in the New Testament. This is the only way you can truly understand the prophecies shared by Matthew. He shares prophesies that came true in their day yet were not fully realized until Christ fulfilled/fulfills them. The view of many modern Bible students is that prophesy is only literal and is only relevant for the single event of its day. This is absolutely not true as Matthew and the other NT authors teach us. The prophesies were an example of Christ. Just as many Bible Characters, like Moses, were an example, or type, of Christ.

There are angelic beings given the job of deceivers, but apparently, one of them (a certain cherub according to Ezekiel) went way too far and is now considered the enemy, the dragon, current ruler of earth.

    • - I think you are reading something into Ecclesiastes - that is not in the versions I have read ??? Satan - rather satan, is a common masculin noun (Hebrew and Greek are gendered languages) denoting an (or "the" if one must use the definite article) adversary, one who withstands (personal, national or figurative). ( even God, or an Angel of God, when he stands in opposition). NB: the common word for enemy in hebrew (oyeb) has its root in "ayab" - indicating "to hate" or have "enmity against".... Ecc 12:13 The conclusion, when everything has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. Ecc 12:14 For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil.

When visiting Her as you entered into Her house you could feel the presence of the Lord all around. One night my Sister was woken. My Sister knew something was wrong. She went to see my Grandmother. My Grandmother was not breathing, my Sister knew the Lord had taken Her. My Sister fell to Her knees and Cried out to Our Lord. Minutes of praying had passed. Then my Grandmother took a deep breath. She turned to my Sister and told Her the Lord came and showed Her many things. She even seen Her family and greeted them. The Lord took Her to this Mansion, My Grandmother said it was so big with giant Pillars outside, precious stones and the floor was made of Gold so pure it was like glass. The Lord lead Her to the Door which was not like anything She had seen on Earth. The colours were so bright. She asked the Lord if this was His palace, and the Lord replied that this was Her Mansion. 1 Corinthians 2:9 9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

They lived much closer to the times and culture when these events were happening and a few even knew the apostles. What has amazed me is that many forget that Christianity has been around for two millennia and totally ignore anything written, explained or taught from the close of revelation to the present times.

That's why it is best to read things for yourself instead of relying on media for your theology. Also a good example of the second commandment and not making images of God.

    • The apple in artwork isn't accidental. It's a symbol that people of that time would recognize, though people today don't get the reference. It means sex. Original sin used to be thought of as sex, which is why Eve is shown offering the apple in such a seductive way, and why it is said that all humans are born under original sin. Even sex in marriage wasn't considered pure, though it was allowable. It was said by some that "God left the room" when a married couple had sex, and therefore they were in danger of being caught by the Devil at that time. I believe a terrible injustice is done in many of those paintings when the Serpent is portrayed as a female naga, or half-woman half-snake. It is an attempt to thrust all blame for the sin onto women in general, and portray Adam as a helpless victim of their wiles. My understanding of the original story, however, is that the serpent is only written in as a metaphor for the snake a man carries with him in his trousers. It "talks" not with words but with urges and temptation nevertheless. It urges folks to "taste of the apple". But once people give in to that temptation they are expelled from the Garden of Eden, which is innocence, and must take up adult responsibilities such as childbirth and working in the fields. The whole story was once just a myth about growing up. People who take the Bible too literally cannot see that metaphor.

      @Marialla.@Marialla.3 ай бұрын
    • @Marialla. That is a great metaphor, although when reading scripture it wouldnt make sense because God gave Adam and eve the command to "be fruitful and become many/ or Multiply fill the earth and subdue it...." Genesis 1:28 and this is before they sinned so context tells us it was definitely NOT the original sin, as it was God's plan for the man and his wife.

      @ThaDogfather_YT@ThaDogfather_YT3 ай бұрын
    • @@ThaDogfather_YT The "be fruitful and multiply" thing was the ending of the previous myth about creation. Kind of like "and they lived happily ever after". The myth about the Garden of Eden is a separate tale. Genesis is a collection of several stories mishmashed together. That's why you have two separate creation accounts, with things attributed to being created on different days. It's not literal.

      @Marialla.@Marialla.3 ай бұрын
  • Maybe you can correct my understanding in this thought, several verses in the Bible have dual meaning and can be understood to cover two instances in one text. Moses made a bronze serpant which he placed upon a pole so the Israelites who had been bitten by vipers might be healed. This also was symbology of how the Son of Man would be raised up.

    • I think the whole story is a myth about growing up. The garden of eden is childhood, when you are cared for by your parents (whom you see as God). The apple is sexuality. The snake is a part of a man, that can be wily and persuasive. There is no "fall" of mankind. There is only the end of childhood and stepping into adult responsibilities of childbirth and daily toil. "Upon thy belly" and "eat dust" only refer to how sex as an adult becomes rare rather than the daily playtime it seems to be when you are young and not a parent yet.

  • I agree ronbianco...the passage starts off speaking of the king of Babylon, and in verse 12 we see a shift in Isaiah's thoughts. He starts writing about the spirit behind the king. The king never was in heaven to fall from heaven. We see a similar thing in Ezekiel 28 starting in verse 11. He was first talking about the king of Tyre, then started talking about the spirit influencing the king. Verse 13...I'm sure the king of Tyre had never set foot in the garden of Eden. And we know this verse is not talking about Adam or Eve. One of Satan's moves in these latter days is to try and remove himself from scripture so we eventually don't believe his existence. • Amen! That theological notion in question appears to have drawn inspiration from the apocalyptic Jewish literature, commonly known as pseudepigrapha, particularly 1 Enoch. These texts held significant popularity during the 1st century. It is noteworthy that despite the prevalence of themes in apocalyptic literature, including 1 Enoch, the specific claim associating Isaiah 14 with the word "Helel" as Satan does not seem to find explicit mention within these sources. The development of this specific interpretation gained prominence notably with Origen and further solidified with the Latin Vulgate translation by St. Jerome in the late 4th century. Recognizing the historical context provides valuable insights into the evolution of theological perspectives surrounding this matter. A nuanced exploration of the historical and literary context enhances our understanding of these theological perspectives prevalent during the time. It is imperative to underscore the paramount significance of context within Scripture.

  • Pythagoras means Heart of the Serpent, he was born in Sidon, a fishing Port in Phoenicia. His mother recieved a message from the Oracle of Delphi that he would become a great Leader and Teacher. Sidon means Kingdom of the Fish, and the Essenes, who wrote the Dead Sea scrolls, worshipped Pythagoras. The Sarcophagus of Eschmun III found in Sidon names him as the Widow's Scion, aka Hiram Abiff, the Founder of Freemasonry, of which Tyre was the premier Capital (at least equal to Thebes). In 911BC Rameses II married the Queen of Sidon, home of Jezebel (Daughter or consort of Baal, basically "Queen") founding Neo Assyrian Babylon, an alliance between Egypt and Hiram, father of Jezebel and King of Assyria, and Egypt, forming the Phoenician colonies and building the first Temple of Melqart to commemorate the alliance. The Si in Sidon is the basis of the Latin Exe, or X, and is the basis of the Cross, or Chi Rho that Constantine painted on his shields. Also known as the Cross of Tyre, or Cross of Baal, being Ra-El, or Ba'El. Oddly enough irrational numbers can also be mapped using Euler's number, producing a Templar Cross in the process. This cross can also be seen around the neck of Nimrod in Assyria, and is consistent with the Union Jack, and Solstice Calendar found in the Vatican Shiva Lingam. Shiva is the Hebrew word for 7, their culture also found its way to Japan (via the Phillipines) ultimately becoming Shintoism. It was the Phoenicians who gave their name to the Pole Star, which they used to Navigate the Oceans using the Zodiac, thats what the Antikythera mechanism was for, and with it they wrote the Byblos Baal, what we now call the Bible. The first form of the Bible was written in 325BC and called the Vaticanus Greacus, or Son of the Sacred Serpent, a reference to Sirius, the basis of the Sothic Calendar, which uses a Hexidecimal or base 60 system found in all the Megalithic sites around the world. In the second century AD astronomer Valentinus Vettori transcribed it into a Lunar chart of 13 houses, what we now call the Zodiac. Horoscope means Star Watcher, and the Phoenician word for Saturn, or El, was Israel or El, (Fruit) of Isis and Ra. El is the primary God of the Phoenicians, representing the offspring of Egypt, and his consort Astarte represents the Assyrian half of the alliance. It may be possible to trace lineages and alliances through the naming of gods, which can be traced all the way to Ireland and the Vikings, and to Indonesia and the Americas, even as far away as New Zealand and Australia. It denotes Sirius as Son of Orion and Pleaides, which sits at 33 degrees of the Zodiac. The basis of the Sothic (dir Seth) Calendar of the Egyptians. The New Moon in this position marks Rosh Hashanah, the Egyptian, Celtic, Phoenician, and Assyrian New Year, the first New Moon of September, which is called September because it's the 7th House of the Zodiac, when the Sun is in Ophiuchus. The Phoenix, Benben, or Bennu is the Egyptian word for Heron, a Feathered 'Serpent'. It baptised itself in frankincense and myrrh at BaalBek, and then alights atop the Pyramid, upon the Holy Grail, or Alter of Ra every 630 years to take three days off the calendar during the course of the first New Moon of Nisan, which means "Prince". The Capstone of Pyramids is even called the Benben or Bennu. The Phoenix is found in all religions, which are all Astrological Allegory for the Moon travelling through the Constellations, as a soul migrating from body to body, this is the basis of Joseph Campbell's Monomyth, or the Hero's Journey. The various planets no doubt play their own roles as portents, omens, and aspects, this astrology is the science of the Bronze age, and lasted all the way up to the 20th Century. Resurrection was an early teaching of the Christian Church, and likely relates to the lineage of Kings (The King is Dead, long live the King.) Phoenicians represent the interim step between Egypt and Greece, their artisans and culture exceeding that of the Greeks, who literally adopted the Phoenician Alphabet, which we still use to this day, sounding out words phonetically. Phoenician is aliiterated in Venetian, and Vikings, being Kings of the Sea. The Bennu is the Egyptian Phoenix, to Phoenicians the Hoyle, no different to the traditions of the Etruscans, who saw birds as sacred, just as the Celts. Hebrew and Iber as in Iberia have the same root meaning over, as in overseas, as in those who travel "over the sea." A colony called Iberia also appears on the Eastern shores of the Black Sea, where the same Dolmens and Megalithic culture originating in Ireland and Brittany appeared circa 4500BC. _Phoenician_ means Scions of the Phoenix, the first Bible: Vaticanus Greacus Son of the Sacred Serpent (Prince). Then there's the Essenes, Sons of Light, the Tuatha De Danaan, Sons of Light, Annunaki, Sons of Light, Arthur Pendragon means Arthur Son of the dragon, Chertoff is Russian for "Son of the Devil" and Dracula also means Son of the Dragon, Masons have been known at times to call themselves the "Brotherhood of the Great White Serpent". The Ziggurat of Anu also denotes her as a great white Serpent, while New Grange and the Bru na Boinne in Ireland (4000BC) coated buildings with white quartz to denote the Moon. The Moon itself travels outside the Solar Elliptic by 5 degrees, which means it passes through specific constellations in a serpentine fashion that is always changing, but repeats every 19 years, the time it took to train a Druid or Magi, Magi meaning "Teacher" the Phoenix is also associated with this sacred number 19. The name "Pharoah" means "Great House" or "House of Light" and Cairo used to be called Babel. Pharaoh's themselves wore a hooded crown representing feathers, just as Native American Chiefs, ie the Feathered Serpent, they were also called the Commander in Chief. Aztecs also had Serpent Kings, (Canaan means Serpent Kings, and Sidon was a Son of Canaan, and Great Grandson of Noah) who were called to lead with cunning and guile, being the very virtue by which they claim the title in the first place; but to be seen in public as just and diplomatic. "As wise as Serpents, but gentle as Doves" the old Egyptian flag of an Eagle attacking a Snake is also reflected in the Modern Mexican flag, denoting the Constellations of Serpentis (13th sign of the Zodiac) and Aquila. The dimensions and 12 mathematical constants of the Great Pyramid are also expressed in New Grange, and Stonehenge, as well as in Watson Brake, (2500BC) and Teotihuacan, which correlates to the Phoenician/ Sumerian Hexidecimal system, which is what our modern systems of time are based on. Officially no one knows who invented astrology, the zodiac, navigation by the stars, and time keeping. But whoever built the pyramids, and pioneered the 24hr clock in Egypt 5000 years ago also knew the exact dimensions of the Earth, as well as the speed of light. These calculations can all be made using these Megalithic sites as surveyors use a theodolite. Specifically Teotihuacan, which sits 180 degrees opposite Cairo, and has the exact same footprint. The ideal positions to determine the speed of light using the transit of Venus, by which one can accurately determine Longitude for navigation. Capt cook did the same thing in 1774 when he 'discovered' Easter Island. The only culture that fits the bill was wiped out "not one stone upon the other" by the Romans in 146BC. Tyre, the capital of Phoenicia (israel) sat just offshore from Ur Shalom, City of the New Moon, or City of Peace. The root of the name Jerusalem, and was also seized by Rome in 70AD after a 13 year seige. The gap between is 216 years. Greek Dionysians built the Temple of Solomon (now called the Temple of Melqart) representing the Solar Lunar Metonic Calendar on which this system is based, they also carried mirrors, a practice associated with both the Magi and the Druids as well as Greek and Egyptian scholars, these Mirrors are Astrological charts called "Cycladian Frying Pans" and record the cycles of the planets. The first Temple of Melqart (the Phoenician form of Horus, or Hercules, or Pan, or Thor) representing the 13th Constellation of Ophiuchus or the Serpent Bearer (hence Orphic Serpent worship) had pillars of Emerald and Gold, representing Isis and Osiris. The Jerusalem Temple only took payment in "Shekels of Tyre" a currency minted during the Jewish rebellion against Rome. "Give that which is Ceasar's unto Ceasar" When Alexander sacked Tyre in 332BC they moved to Carthage meaning "New City" or New Jerusalem, where they built a second temple with Pillars of Bronze. Nebuchadnezzar also seiged Tyre for 13 years, taking the City captive in 573BC: the same time as the biblical account of the Jews. And again in 70AD after a three and a half year seige, also consistent with biblical accounts. Esus was a character created by Joseph of Arimathea, who was a Celt, the King of Tyre, the Bible is the Phoenician Almanac, Esus the God of Death, Polaris, the Pole Star. It's written backwards, in a mirror, just as Egyptians made their astrological records, the Zodiac. Palestinians are the Seed of Abraham, the Phoenicians, Sons of the Father, the Phoenix, the direct line of Pharoahs of Egypt, and their Messiah calls to them from New Zealand, their Promised Land! And in fulfillment of the Covenant that was made.

You write that "WE NEVER SEE JESUS TEACHING A DISCIPLE ALONE. THEY ALWAYS LEARN TOGETHER.". However, this is exactly what Paul/Sh'ul claims is the way he was taught. I'm not disagreeing at all that we should study together, because we can so easily wander off the right path, but I thought this bullet point should be addressed in the next revision.

  • Thanks Brandon. Enjoyed the first part, but the second half included content that's repetitive (you've spoken about these things before). Something I'd be interested in, is investigating how the misconceptions have managed to survive through the 20th century, when there have been numerous scholars, who have pointed out these mistranslations. And yet, popular (Christian) culture insists on holding on to the imagery of the serpent/apple and the rooster crowing. These have been illustrated by many artists throughout the centuries and somehow won't be replaced by the correct meaning. At the same time, I wonder if theologians/pastors etc. feel that it's irrelevant to the actual meaning conveyed by these passages. Does it matter if the serpent is already in the tree tempting Eve or whether the devil's form looks different? I'd say it does, because the serpent is a consequence of disobedience and Christians don't want to hear about a God who actually does carry out consequences. Perhaps you could elaborate on this further, why knowing the correct context and meaning is essential? Thanks so much!

  • Sorry Brandon, but no, the Isaiah verses do refer to our adversary AND they refer to the Babylonian king. as do most prophecies, There are both near and far interpretations. I’m sorry that this is the road you have chosen to take lately. I have been following your ministry for about 2 to 3 years during this pandemic, and most certainly ever since The Chosen has come to fame. Mostly your messages have been uplifting. I’m not certain if you can see this, but the click baiting of these recent messages have been to sow a lack of confidence in our understanding of God’s word. it is one thing if the things you’re bringing to our attention are doctoral issues, but it is a far different thing when it comes to picking at words, does it really impact anybody’s doctoral position if it’s an apple or not? I’ve never thought it to be an apple. I’ve actually thought it to be a fig, but it’s immaterial. I’ve never thought the snake was crawling on belly when it tempted Eve. I have always figured it was a consequence of after the curse, but what of it? Is my theology off because of it? I encourage you to please return to using your discerning gifts to encourage and build up the body and improve our understanding of the Word, but not just nit pick at words that do not impact our doctrinal understanding.

    • To be fair and give the benefit of doubt, is it such a bad thing to teach new Christians or Christians who don't know that it wasn't an apple, or that Satan means adversary and is not the name of the enemy but a title? Whilst I do see your point, that these aren't really building up perhaps the goal isn't always to build, but to inform. To pick up a metaphor used by Paul, a teacher can't always give meat, sometimes a Christian isn't ready for meat but instead needs more milk. Perhaps I do not see as you do, but I do propose that it isn't as bad as you seem to be making it out to be. In love and faith

    • If you start saying things, like Isaiah are dual fulfillment, prophecies, you could do that with anything. The passage is an astronomical metaphor about the king of Babylon using the planet Venus. If you’ve done any observations of the Night Sky, you will notice that the planets such as Mars, Jupiter and Saturn always appear at the zenith of the heavens. Well, Venus is always lowest in the sky. Additionally, you have shemyaza who led the rebellion against the Yahweh in the book of Enoch and he and his friends mated with human women and produced Giants and Nephilim offspring. There was also another angel that fell called azazel. And he taught mankind warfare and women make up and stuff like that. So which one of those are Satan? Oh wait a minute you don’t believe that the book of Enoch is inspired Scripture do you do you see how we can play games and decide whatever we want? Plus in the book of Job Yahweh literally makes a bet with Satan on the faith of the prophet Job. If you read the entire narrative, Satan is under the complete authority of Yahweh, and is only allowed to do to Job as Yahweh permits

I have a difficult time believing Jewish people, familiar with the Old Testament in its original language are "False" as well. His biggest idea is for YOU to not accept what "someone else tells you" but to "study it out for yourself" he tells you how to do this for YOURSELF. He isn't saying: "trust me, I'm right, they're wrong" like you are claiming. He is simply saying 1) study your Bible 2) go "Beyond the Words" 3) consider that certain verses may not mean as we've been told. 4) use every resource at your disposal to find truth in scripture. To be honest, I've never heard a heretical word come from his mouth. If anything, he is encouraging YOU to do the work and proof it yourself!

    @christopherchmiel7872@christopherchmiel78723 ай бұрын
    • No, scripture actually was referring to a snake with נָחָשׁ (nachash) considering that people who speak Hebrew fluently refer to snakes as _nachash._ The claim that _nachash_ can also mean "Shining One" is really nothing but apologetics with no real backing, confusing it with another name snakes can go by in Hebrew: שרף (saraph), derived from a root that means "to burn". This is because the pain from the bite from a venomous snake feels like burning, so venomous snakes are sometimes referred to as "burning ones" in Hebrew.

  • Thanks for these clarifications! I learned at Fuller that Jesus's words in John 14:1-4 are taken directly from the Jewish wedding ceremony, when the groom assures his bride that he is going to prepare the place in his father's house where they will live together as one. The same motif is used in Jesus parable of the virgins (the bridesmaids) and their oil lamps that they are kerping lit to be ready for when the groom returns to take his bride to the wedding feast, Matthew 25. Knowing this adds so much depth to the assurance Jesus is giving to all his disciples at this time of uncertainty for them. So beautiful!

  • Excellent video! And Sheol is not even a fiery pit, an eternal hell. It's simply the realm of the dead. And it's sometimes used metaphorically. Case in point: While David was writing the 139th Psalm, he wrote the words, "If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there." God is in hell, where David is sleeping? Of course not! David is very much alive; therefore, we know that Sheol is a metaphor for something dark, depressing, painful, and/or deathly, and anguish of the soul that David compares to a deathly state.

Therefore, eating from the Tree of Knowledge was a transgression of the law, not a sin. It's the same concept as a young child not being accountable vs an older child. Young children don't know right from wrong yet. That's why it's not necessary for young children to be baptized to wash away sins because they have no sins yet.

  • I would encourage folks to also understand that the Tanak is full of archetypes, metaphors, and hints when it comes to multiple prophecies. We find that prophets, like Isaiah, spoke for his time and the future time as well. You see this when Peter quotes Joel in Acts. Even though we can understand that passage literally when it comes to the king being called Lucifer, we must not dismiss it is important information for understanding an "antichrist"/lawless archetype that is illustrated throughout the Bible. The misrepresentation from Christian tradition is trying to do this ignorantly. Simply remember there is merit to understanding that one passage, especially written by prophetic authors, can have more than one meaning and it was common for Jewish Christians to hold two ideas in tension.

They will tell you it is wrong, while they themselves do it. The very first 7 words in bereshyt/gen 1:1 teach us the principles there must be 2 or more witnesses to establish a matter as truth, and that everything is both physical & spiritual. The Word of YeHoVaH has what is called a plain meaning, and then the deeper spiritual meanings, like an onion, you peel back the layers to get to the core. Yeshayahu/isa 14:12 is both.

Two of these are in the Law of Moses: God permitted the Israelites to take slaves from conquered peoples permanently, and the Israelites could sell themselves into slavery temporarily to pay off debts (Exod 21:2-11; Lev 25:44-46). The other five passages are in the New Testament, where slavery as a social institution is endorsed and slaves are called to obey their masters “in everything” (Eph 6:5-9; Col 3:22-4:1; 1 Tim 6:1-2; Tit 2:9-10; 1 Pet 2:18-20).

He also cannot be called "morning star". the "morning star".is a name that was given to Jesus, so it is a very high position. but Lucifer was in a very high position until he rebelled then Jesus won and took his title.
