  • Bravi, ragazzi! And in spite of his little tornado moment, Kobe seems to hang on your every word. What a bright dog!

  • I’ve been meaning to say, Koby is as much a star of these vlogs as is the Castello and the views. Good dog 🐕

  • For some reason I think Kobe would be better off in charge of not losing the new mailbox key! 450 to remove the rubble... Ouch! I bet it felt worth it when it was gone though. I have heard multiple times that trash removal can be difficult in Italy and especially Sicily. Idea for your next rubble pile... I think it was Shawshank Redemption. They were tunneling out of prison and snuck all the rubble out in their pant legs. Kobe needing some exercise outside the castello is the perfect alibi! Question for my KZhead stonework education. You are wearing the what looks like the same kind of 3M respirator while mixing the mortar, but not when you're removing the old stuff. Is the modern mortar so much more dangerous than what you are removing, or maybe mortar becomes less dangerous after it has been mixed and set? Worn glasses after getting old 7 years or so ago. I hated wearing that mask when I was spraying the old Jeep. I don't look forward to wearing those again! Breathing obviously more important though, and not being dead. Happy Easter weekend to you and your family! I think I am coming to the conclusion that I am a long winded serial commenter.

    • Hahaha, I like your Shawshank idea! I think I'll be using the dirt to fill the garden at our other house. I have to transport it 20km but hey, it's better than paying 450 euros! The old mortar is a mix of dirt and sand while the new is a fine mixture of lime and sand. I've seen people mix the new stuff without a mask. Perhaps it's ok but it's better to be safe than sorry. Happy Easter to you and your family!

  • Beautiful location , and a herculean undertaking. What was your initial motivation to demo the interior? We bought a house in the vicinity of Fano in 2012, and lentamente renovated it. Best Wishes.

    • Hey neighbor :) I started the demo to open up the rooms in the upper floors. Also to reduce the weight on the lower level and reinforce the stucture as a whole. The demo wasn't as extreme as it looks. Only three walls came down, two of which were the result of removing the orginal stone stairs. The third wall will be rebuilt in the same place. So in reality, the floor plan was not drastically changed. Most of the debris came from removing the old flooring, doors, and plaster. I hope you'll follow along to see the results. Btw, let me know if you are ever in my area and I'll give you a tour. Buona Pasquetta.

    • @@housemarche Thanks for the invite, will take you up on that in 2025. I will follow along to commiserate with our process. As a side note I bought a falename workbench to decorate our terra piano. Our house is incorporated into the castello wall, so I learned quickly that 14th century motar was not water barrier.
