American Police Cars VS German Police Cars

Encouraged by the feedback in the earlier uploaded video "American Ambulances VS German Ambulance" I continue with this video, which for sure will again hit someone's soft spot - isn't it always like "the stuff here is always better, by any given aspect, than what you have over there"?!
In this video I compare various police cars from the United States of America and the Federal Republic of Germany:
Crown Victoria, Chevrolet Tahoe, Dodge Charger, just some few famous names among American Police Cars. The German counterparts are Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 series and Audi A6. However, on both sides you find also less popular and ... to be honest, less representative ones when it comes down to "who has the most badass cars". This video doesn't represent show cars, but the reality! I guess I manged to show both nice as well as not so nice units on both sides.
Representing the USA I chose various units, ranging from plain normal patrol cars to special operations and rescue units from the following police departments:
- NYPD / New York City Police Department
- NYPD Traffic / New York City Police Department Traffic Enforcement
- NYC DHS Police / New York City Department of Homeless Services Police
- MTA Police / Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police
- PAPD / Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department
- APD / Amtrak Police Department
- NYCD / New York City Department of Correction
- NYSP / NY State Trooper / New York State Police
- FBI / Federal Bureau of Investigation
- FPS Police / Federal Protective Service Police
- USMS / United States Marshals Service
- USSS / United States Secret Service
- USAR MP / Military Police
Unfortunately I couldn't get videos of all police units and services I saw during my stay in the USA. I shot some photos of e.g. Postal Police and Hospital Police HHCPD as well.
Representing Germany I chose a similar range of police units from the following services, departments and agencies:
- Bavarian State Police
- Bavarian State Riot Police
- Bavarian State Police, Highway Patrol
- Bavarian State SWAT Team
- The Police Chief of Berlin / Berlin City-State Police
- Hamburg City-State Police
- Hamburg City-State Riot Police
- Schleswig-Holstein State Riot Police
- Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Police
- Hesse State Police
- Hesse State Riot Police
- Frankfurt City Police
- Saxony State Police
- Lower Saxony State Police
- Baden-Wuerttemberg State Police
- Thuringia State Riot Police
- North Rhine-Westphalia State Riot Police
- Hamburg City-State Police
- Hamburg City-State Riot Police
- Federal Police
- Federal Customs SWAT Team / Customs Observation Team
- Military Police German Armed Forces
Before anyone tries to attact me as if I'd create a biased video: I tried to make both segments equally long and I also tried to cover an as wide range of vehicles as it's possible. Please accept that I have a rather limited range of police services I can cover for the American part: I don't steal videos from other users, I only use my own videos!

    • While you are correct, the best way to aid audible location of an emergency vehicle is by a blast of white noise. I can't remember exactly how and why it works - I think its something to do with white noise not reflecting off buildings and vehicles the same way a siren does, so you can audibly pinpoint its true source location more accurately. Its used in the UK; there will be a normal UK siren for a few seconds then a short blast of white noise, then back to the siren, etc. although its not consistent across police forces or even emergency services.

Great willingness and ability to understand and diffuse situations, especially when people cant speak German that well. Never met one with a chip on his/her shoulder which is amazing, frankly. Thumbs up Berlin police! They know what matters and how to deal with different issues. They are stars!

Besides some common cop cars in an conspicuously inconspicuous color, also rather uncommon cars are used today, cars where no-one would think about it being a cop car

    • well, already the average driver is trained to drive safely at high speeds. Keep in mind, most of our highways don't have a speed limit. You may legally drive at 190 mph and still have to watch out for faster traffic approaching from behind. Sure, 190 mph is an extreme example and not every car is able to reach those speeds, nor is everyone able to drive at such extreme speeds, but "fast" is quite common here, and for emergency services even more

    • As matter of fact, American police cars feature tweaked engines whereas only some German police cars have high performance engines. Most of the German cars have stock engines. However, in the US police cars need to cover much greater distances, especially on the freeways. This makes speed more essential. German police cars belonging to the Autobahn department (Autobahnpolizei) are usually equipped with non altered high performance stock engines which outperform most American engines.

German cars (the Freightliners are actually Mercedes-Benz Sprinters, see the German version at 11:16 :)). The Germans drive Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen, Ford, Opel and Audi, Czech cars (Skoda, though that is owned by VW), Japanese cars (Nissan), French (Renault) and some special stuff like the water throwers (the big blue hulks), which are based on a Mercedes truck. The oldest cars you might find in the US are probably the Caprice PPV, being released in 2001. They're old, but they haul ass even by today's standard. American cars are naturally heavier because they're naturally better because the roads in the US are naturally wider and larger.

    • 3 1/2 years is insane. In the U.S. the most rigorous police academies are the ones for state troopers that tend to last about half a year. Local cops usually have much less training. Pretty embarrassing and easy to understand why we have so many issues with cops in the U.S.

      @465maltbie@465maltbie7 жыл бұрын
    • +465maltbie Well, in the USA you got cop cars with only red lights. They tend to drown in a sea of red tail and brake lights at night. In Germany they only use blue lights, which stands out like no tomorrow, also nobody but emergency vehicles use blue lights. As an additional benefit, blue lights reflect great on road signs. So when the cop is behind you, you can see the reflection ahead of you.

      @fliteshare@fliteshare7 жыл бұрын
    • sorry but they started going to blue lights years ago, only ambulances and fire trucks use red lights. There may be some police who still use red lights but you never see those anymore. Thanks for your thoughts.

      @465maltbie@465maltbie7 жыл бұрын
    • Also my complaint wasnt about the color but the intensity. I have been to Germany and other places in Europe and the lights they use are not as bright and distracting as the lights used in the USA. The newer LED and strobe lights are so bright they blind you as you drive by them. You probably cant tell that by watching a video, you have to experience them in person.

      @465maltbie@465maltbie7 жыл бұрын
    • 465maltbie I drive both in Europe and America and I forgot to mention that I more than agree with you about the brightness of the warning lights in the USA. The police rational obviously is: "people don't see us early enough", thus put brighter lights on the copcars. Skipping over the fact that it isn't "seeing" as such, but more "recognising" that might be the real problem here. My point was (also) that it takes LESS blue light to stick out like a sore thumb at night.

    • I thought about making a fire truck comparison as well, but unfortunately I only have vieos from the FDNY. On the one side, the range of different apparatus types is rather limited, and on the other side it's rather complicated to let the FDNY represent an entire country IMO. Since I rely on my own videos 100%, I guess I'll get some "few" haters when I compare the FDNY to various German fire apparatus

No disrespect intended, but I am curious if you are from Germany {& if not stepping a boundary} if you are German, and if you typically speak English &or German as your go to, in your day-to-day {or what language does your inner monologue typically speaks to you in} .... Please recognize that I intend NOTHING but respect- as with my initial appeal drawing me to view this upload- strictly from a scientific/fact/observational/journalistic standpoint, motivates by sheer curiosity & lust for truth/knowledge/to decrease any&all of my own ignorance/or gaps in human knowledge [All of my above sentiment is an oberreaching attempt to elaborate on why i would ask such an irrelevant question, about race, when by nature {especially when related to the current protest saturated American climate} can be a needlessly touchy subject: Thesis being I am motivated by general knowledge, NOT any form of bigotry or any goal that could be related to blindly separating/generalizing groups of people to be different/superior/lesser than all other generic/interchangeable/equivelant human beings] All apologies if my comment, similar to a novel, is outputting for being incredibly needlessly redundant/pointless/nonessential in its wordiness. Hopefully you've made it far enough to accept said apology. I hope y'all have a lovely day, Danke! One love, MG3
