This is a very cute Anime, I gotta say. It captures the spirit of the Mega Man Classic games, the characters are surprisingly likeable and the animation is pretty good. Even the English dub isn't half bad (it's way better than Mega Man 8). Not to mention very educational to learn a little bit of Japanese culture. It's a shame it's only 3 episodes, it would have been a great series. Maybe even a sequel based on the X series.

Check out the promo for what could have been the incredible looking Mega Man Ruby-Spears cartoon. It looks leagues better that what we got, very faithful to the Classic artstyle, very similar to this cartoon. I just don-l't understand how they messed up so badly. I can look back on Sonic SatAM, while it was still a cheaply produced Saturday morning show, and still didn't look as good as the Sonic CD opening or the Sonic OVA, still had decent animation and a great plot. Sonic's design stuck closely to what American kids knew. Mega Man's American designs were all over the place in the late 80's and early 90's, but that show could have defined the character's look for years to come. It's a real shame, big companies get their hands on a property and just trash it for lack of care or want to make it work. Again, similar to the new Sonic film coming out.

Ova1 is aimed at Europe and the United States in order to promote the image of the Japanese version. The Japanese version of ova1 also deliberately uses the name megaman instead of rockman. In order to wash away the image of the muscle guy megaman in europe and the United States, capcom had to do this. Perhaps, the more muscles, the more people in Europe and the United States like. But I'm Asian, and there are some differences in aesthetics. I prefer the Japanese version of the cute boy image.

The American cartoon visual style is unanimously recognized as a meme here in the states and abroad. If it were my decision, I'd have loved to see a full two or three seasons using the American cartoon's plot but with the original Japanese aesthetic.

@@clairebun I honestly kind of prefer the American version, and that's not my bias talking either. I like how accurate the characters look, but at the same time, I kind of don't like that it tries to be meta by having them go from this video game world to real world Japan. It sounds cool on paper, but not in practice. Oh, and I'm aware people don't like the American version's design, but that's a pretty petty reason to not like that show. Also, I think the voice acting in the American show is better, the English voice acting here sounds very stilted by comparison. It's nowhere near as awful as the voice acting in Mega Man 8, but it's still not good either.

I remember watching this on KZhead years back, but I never finished it. I watched all three tonight and that was amazing. The animation was superb and the voice acting was solid.
Ova1 is aimed at Europe and the United States in order to promote the image of the Japanese version. The Japanese version of ova1 also deliberately uses the name megaman instead of rockman. In order to wash away the image of the muscle guy megaman in europe and the United States, capcom had to do this. Perhaps, the more muscles, the more people in Europe and the United States like. But I'm Asian, and there are some differences in aesthetics. I prefer the Japanese version of the cute boy image.
The American cartoon visual style is unanimously recognized as a meme here in the states and abroad. If it were my decision, I'd have loved to see a full two or three seasons using the American cartoon's plot but with the original Japanese aesthetic.
@@clairebun I honestly kind of prefer the American version, and that's not my bias talking either. I like how accurate the characters look, but at the same time, I kind of don't like that it tries to be meta by having them go from this video game world to real world Japan. It sounds cool on paper, but not in practice. Oh, and I'm aware people don't like the American version's design, but that's a pretty petty reason to not like that show. Also, I think the voice acting in the American show is better, the English voice acting here sounds very stilted by comparison. It's nowhere near as awful as the voice acting in Mega Man 8, but it's still not good either.
