There is one thing stopping the BMW E46 M3 from being the perfect sports car. Well some some people like it but I can assure you most people don't. Normally you have to spend big money on an aftermarket modification to resolve the issue that I cover in this video. I recently discovered an alternative route that shouldn't cost too much to do and works just as well. Huge thanks to Bimmer Dude for making a video on this hack.

  • I agree, don't like the rasp. Sounds like something is broken or shaking apart. It def sounds better with the added resonator, but you might need something else. Sounds pretty distinct now at least.

    • @@Ramo108 that’s only if they’re on back order....most things are in stock currently. I have a fun status exhaust and is by far the most amazing exhaust noise from any e46 M3 I’ve heard. Mine has no resonators and is ear piercingly loud😂😂😂

  • Best thing to do to get rid of rasp 1. Leave the stock headers and mufflers 2. Replace the mid pipe for resonators on both sides instead of one side which gives it rasp

  • I kind of like the way it sounds now. The e46 m3 always had some sort of rasp and ive come to accept it on this platform. I think the way yours sounds now Is raw and primal. So if you kept it as it currently is I'd be happy to win this as your second giveaway

  • Sounds like you have a notorious dead part throttle ! I had a M3 06 SMG ICV ,MAF, and possible Vanos seals and Block ! Hesitation drove me crazy for a Year ,but is finally nailed all issues ! This is where the M3 Eats you Bank !!! But it is the best all around Driver ! I am going to find a 335 IS Vert ! Love your Info any questions on M3 There is so many DIY's You have your work cut out for you Brother !~ And I Believe you will Nail It ! Thx Happy Safe New Year! BTW on that Bumper ,You know to stay away from the after market and still you can get burned on so called OEM ! Find those that swear by the company !!!

  • Rogue also makes a rasp eliminator pipe. I have one installed on my M3 and the sound is deep. I like the sound of the AA exhaust except the muffler is heavy.

  • Interestingly enough, It seems the Carbon Fiber Airbox intakes make a big difference in engine sound too. I’ve heard great results with new cams, carbon intake, cat-less headers, and a GTHaus Titanium exhaust. Literally no rasp at all then😂

    • I had my 03 E46 6-Speed for about 10 years and i left it stock for the most part of it. I sold it about 2 years ago and got me a 6-Speed 08 E60 M5. I'm looking forward to your M5 updates.

  • Get the anti rasp section 1 from yonaka motorsport and thank me later. I have 2 e46 m3 (coupe and Vert) and while they have different exhaust setups on them from the headers back (1 is expensive and the other one is a more budget friendly) the 1 component that is the same on both is that anti rasp from yonaka. 0-zero rasp and almost exotic exhaust note especially above 5k revs. Trust me it's the one you want, I have tried so many different ones till I settled for this one and was so happy I got another one for the other m3.

  • Previously it sounded closer to a fartcan civic. But in my opinion it sounds pretty good, if it was my car I will keep this setup until I change my mind after a year or so.

  • I think the titanium exhaust plays a huge part in the raspiness. It sounds like the “tin can” people often refer to hondas sounding like.. it vibrates at idle, it vibrates under acceleration.. kinda annoying.. but its clean doe

  • you need to convert the exhaust to an e36 M3 euro 3.2L single super sprint race muffler and coupe. the stupid can design of the e46 m3 is uncalled for. Quad tips look good but it’s not a v8 so it’s just aesthetic which elevates form over function. Listen and euro e36 m3 with super sprint exhaust and xpipe. best sound ever

  • personally I don't like any of the active autowerke stuff.... and I am wondering why you would not do a catback exhaust on the M3.... the BMW stock resonators for all E46's are garbage..... really don't know of any exhaust company that has been successful at removing the rasp... maybe you can try the rogue engineering rasp pipe... it says that it eliminates the rasp...
