  • I had to spot multiple times at age 13 for big releases from the L10s. It’s good training to spot teammates from a young age, but boy was it a heart racing moment

  • when i was in gold, we had to do handstand holds on the beam for 60 seconds, and we’d have a partner that we were supposed to keep up but not hold them the whole time, and my partner literally pushed me over on my back. so that’s one of the very very few exceptions to never blame the spotter.

  • If you don’t know why they do this if you just scrolled to this, that bar is made of steel, not a composite like with women’s bars, men typically put more force and load on the bar because of weight and power, they have spotters that do this in order to prevent the gymnast from smashing their face into a steel bar..

  • Can't you use a half cylinder pad? Pad face down, then he can grab the bar. Twist and turn the pad face up for protection. Or maybe disk shape pads with spacing just wide enough for arm to reach? :)
