  • I took my puppy out every hour. Reduced the time over months and we NEVER had an accident inside our apartment.

  • I'm gonna be introducing two dogs real soon, looking for some tips! Apollo, male Rottweiler almost two years old. Explosive energy, very playful but can be territorial especially when other dogs tries to play alpha on him. Mocha, 9 months old female who just got relocated to her new home. She seems very docile and curious, didn't show any signs of playfulness but rather caution possibly due to the move to her new home. *UPDATE* It actually went pretty well, Apollo was a bit aggressive when playing at the start, but as soon as Mocha said no he softened his game. The two became best friends.

  • Will, I need help. 10 week old Golden Retriever puppy who will start biting me and will not stop. Physical and auditory corrections do not work. Holding her still doesnt work, she will try to alligator roll and it can take a few minutes sometimes to get a hold of her so she cant keep biting and it amps her up even more. More exercise doesnt help. More sleep doesnt help. Shes now been snapping when i try to correct anything.

  • Help! I can't find a dog training video that addresses the problem I'm having with my 4 month old border collie/heeler/catahoula/ pointer mix puppy. If he doesn't want to go somewhere, he throws himself on the ground and refuses to move. He's fine on a leash, out walking, but the leash doesn't work when I've tried it in the house. If I try to put him on his feet he bites my arms and flips on his back and kicks me. He's very food motivated but even a treat won't get him moving. He's 35 pounds and it's hard for me to pick him up(he's 1/3 of my body weight). He's super smart, sweet and well trained, besides this issue. He's stubborn. Does anyone have any suggestions, please???

    • Assuming you’ve had a productive day or have provided adequate hrs of attention/exercise/training/stimulation with the 4 month old.. maybe it’s needing to rest.. since you know it’s a 4 month old PUPPY. Puppies need to nap quite often and a lot for some. Try to avoid overworking it. Also if he ONLY bites when you are trying to get him to get up.. I’m pretty sure he’s telling you to “fluff-off! CUZ I need to rest mf!!!”. But like I said only if it’s when hes laying down and in a resting mood.

    • @@SUcC.. Mostly, it's when I try to take him out to potty. Once I get him out he runs around and does his business and plays a little. Or, like today, we had to run to the convenience store(15 minutes total) and I tried to put him in his kennel. He just doesn't want to go. If I go a different direction he'll jump up and run and be fine. He acts like it's a game. He's the best puppy besides this one frustration😜

    • Ive got a border collie/heelee mix too and they have a stubborn streak a mile wide. Forcing them to either do or not do something never works. They get hyper fixated on things and from that point nothing will work. Step 1 for us was always breaking the fixation, so we jumped to doing either part of her training routines or a command from when she did agility training. This is just what worked for us, im far from a trainer and still struggle on some day 2 day issues but we have our little princess fluffybutt under control enough that shes around my 8month old kid in the house.

  • I get judged for taking my puppy out for a walk using a lead. How do i train reactiveness when i cant even use a slip lead let alone a collar?

    @iabaca@iabaca5 ай бұрын
    • It sounds to me like your dog continues to have bad experiences with multiple types of collars and leads.. and instead of slowly working with the dog with the 1 right tool you move on to the next one when you don’t see immediate results. Because I don’t think your PUPPY should be having issues with a collar ,of all things, if you are properly teaching leash pressure at an appropriate distraction level.. I mean it’s a puppy so it shouldn’t start it with a whole lot of distractions in the first place when beginning training. The owner needs to get trained just as much as the puppy…

      @SUcC..@SUcC..5 ай бұрын
    • @SUcC.. I taught him from 8 weeks with a collar. He did well. Started taking I'm out, he did well again. But when he sees a dog or person, he will PULL and strangle himself. Won't stop until they sniff the person or dog, or they go away/I distract/I change direction. Started getting shit for having him on a collar and not a harness because he started coughing on the collar. Swapped to harness. He's still good with walking, just not when people are there. But atleast noone says shit

      @iabaca@iabaca5 ай бұрын
    • @@iabacaF ALL THAT! collars are not the issue but it’s the method and ways it’s used. Harnesses are not going to teach the dog a damn thing. Specially for people with medium to large breeds who are also extremely reactive. If possible you need to try to find someone who has a well trained dog and begin from a distance training the “leave it”.. prong collars and e collars if used properly and not to punish the dog are very effective. Markers/clickers are the cherry on top. The dog needs to realize that if it feels uncomfortable in certain situations that you are the comfort and exit from that situation. If it’s overstimulation and excitement reactivity you need to slowly work your way into teaching the dog that in order to get what it wants it needs to follow commands. It’s a process no skipping corners.. and definitely not putting the dog into situations that will trigger it. There are levels of distractions that a dog needs to be worked into. Puppies need no distractions when first starting. They need patience and an owner willing to put the work.

    • @@iabacathere's many thing u can try with this. Teach your dog that you are more rewarding than whatever it is in front. While in doors, start by getting there fav treat and rewarding them for looking at u. Progressively make it harder. Next go outside and walk and use the command you've been using indoors. Once u got that. Start walking so your dog knows there is someone there but your reward is better. Get closer and closer to people passing. Your dog will eventually learn ignoring the person is more rewarding. U can then use this to introduce your dog to people and dogs in a calmer, safer way. Super dumb down but yh u get the idea. Itl work u just need patience.

    • @se62hy hi, I do this! He is INSANELY food driven. When I go walk, I take chicken and cheese which he loves. Its weird because his recall is REALLY good. Even with distractions. But as soon as we walk past someone, he doesn't care. I put it on his nose and he looks for a second, then goes back

  • Any tips on getting my 15 month old Lab to stop destroying his bed. He gets plenty of instruction with voice/touch commands, lots of play & exercise, has lots of chew toys, but still wants to tear at and remove all the stuffing from his bed. What should we do?

    @Pollllz@Pollllz5 ай бұрын
    • I'm having the same issue with my pittie mix. She loves to chew and has loads of toys that we rotate but she rips up every blanket we put in the crate. She would do the same with beds if we don't keep her under 24/7 supervision, she's approximately the same age as your dog. We're not 100% sure as she's a rescue but she was 12 weeks when we got her in February this year.

    • @@sankey1988 Lol, it’s a challenge isnt it. So how many beds & blankets have you gone through? We must be on to our 7th bed now. He has a sheepskin rug in his crate that he doesn’t destroy, but yeah the bed can only be used under supervision. I’m wondering if it’s anything to do with him being entire. He’s due to be neutered in early Jan, so we’ll see if that stops the destructive drive.

    • @@Pollllz 100% and expensive lol. My girl is fixed so I'm not sure if it makes a difference but yeah we're on our 4th bed. We just have old fleece blankets in there now that we don't care if she rips but she's well exercised and trained. She is very high energy and needs lots of mental stimulation and exercise but even after long walks and training sessions spread throughout the day she will still chance her arm and try to eat the bed. Is it pulling the stuffing out that they like I wonder?

    • @@azbycx737 that’s what we have done. He sleeps in his crate on a sheepskin at night and only has a bed during the day. It’s working out okay, but I’d still like to stop the chewing of beds. He’s got enough chew toys and stuff that should be far more satisfying for him to chew. Hoping he’ll grow out of it eventually but in the meantime he doesn’t get a bed at night. Seems to be fine with it.

    • To some dogs, a bed is just another plush toy to tear up. After noticing that my dog prefers to sleep on the carpet or hardwood floor, I realized that I was the only one who cared if he had a dog bed, threw it away. Now everybody's happy.
