10 Places in Missouri You Should NEVER Move To

Wow there are some really terrible parts of Missouri, I'll tell you that!
Missouri. Known for its vast farmland, giant arch, terrible weather and of course, its world famous barbeque. Missouri has a lot to offer - 5 pro sports teams, the home of Budweiser and the Lake of the Ozarks. And, while most of the Show Me State is great, just like every other state, Missouri has its least desirable spots. The places you don’t want to live.
To measure the bad places in this state, we have to use two things - data and opinion. We’ve looked at a bunch of data, you know - crime, poverty, the quality of schools and home prices. Plus, we took into account YOUR opinion - that’s right - you Missourians have a lot to say about which places in your states are great and which are not so great. So, while Walt Disney may have gotten his start here...believe me, there’s nothing magical about living in the places we’re talking about today.
And here it here it goes

I had never even seen so much Beautiful green in my life.Trees, grass, The flowers on the side of the road was gorgeous. I had never seen so much beauty. In nature in my life. At the age of 21 I came to Missouri from California. I am now 68 years old and have lived here this long. I love Missouri. When I first came here there was no crime. I’m still at a safer place than other places are.But I do believe I will stay. This is my home. There is much much worse places to live.

All a person needs to do is Google a list of the poorest states in order of degree of poverty & then Google a list of which states are run by which political party. I agree with what you said, everything was accurate except for your Lambert location. I will say living in St. Louis there were areas that I was afraid to drive through and though Springfield has a lot of the same issues, I never feel afraid anywhere in Springfield, it is definitely getting worse ever year. I loved it when I moved here 25 years ago, but sadly it is getting worse and worse and it seems the local government wants to pretend everything is wonderful and does nothing about it.

    • Springfield has been a great place to grow up in, raise a family in, schools, raising grandkids, all of it. I've been around here close to 60 years now as I was born over in Joplin and lived there for the first part of my young life. Springfield has definitely had it's share of growing problems. All the colleges have brought in their share of problems, and I-44 has always been a source of issues that arrive daily. I've lived all over the USA and I can honestly say there's nowhere else I'd rather live than here. As you say, I can drive most anywhere in Springfiled with my windows down and wave at folks that wave back, friendly. Unfortunately, crime is really on the uptick and I truly hope the city makes adjustments to counter it. I'd hate to see "The Queen City of The Ozarks" end up like many of the large cities. And, it's "Missoura" to this old timer. lol

  • As a resident of Branson, Mo I would attribute the overwhelming majority of the crime here to methamphetamine and opiate addiction. It makes me sad to see my home on this list, and makes me very angry that so little is done to cut these dangerous drugs off at the source. The root of the problem in most of these cities is the same, and the solution is simple if anyone with any power really cared.

    • Methamphetamine is a chemically mirror drug to Adderall. If it were legal we wouldn’t see any of what you’re seeing right now. Most of the problems attributed to drugs, are caused by the war against them and prohibition. The cops are making millions so good luck with that. The fact is though…. IF People could buy it just like you by your southern comfort or Jack Daniels, over 90% of them would use it responsibly. In the meantime torturing medical patients is killin’ good people left and right. Sooner or later someone you love will die/suffer and you’ll see what I was trying to talk about. I hope I’m wrong.

  • I missed this video when it first came out because I was stopped for the night at a hotel in (of all places) Missouri! We stayed in a town called Festus, which is an outer-outer-ring suburb of St. Louis to the south. I've never seen it mentioned in any of your videos, so I wasn't sure what to expect of this town, but I heard they have cheap gasoline, and there was a variety of places to eat around the hotel, so we made this our stopping point. We were surprised at how polite everyone was, and even stopped at a Walmart for some supplies before hitting the road the next morning. I usually dread Walmart, but the store was clean and orderly, and everyone was polite. Sharp contrast to the New Orleans area. Only thing is, we rolled in around 9:00 pm...on a Friday night...and every restaurant in town was already closed, except for Hardee's.

    • I lived in the Midwest in my youth and west coast as a teenager and young adult, spent several years living in the Carolinas & traveling throughout that region and to the SE parts of the US. Haven’t really traveled extensively in & around the NE so can’t really comment on that region as well as others. All in all, I’ve lived in 7 US states, and traveled to 43...typically spending just a couple days in each but have spent up to several months in over 12 states I didn’t formally reside in, so I think I have a decent perspective. West coast generally for me is the least friendly states I’ve lived in or traveled through, from my experience. The further I travel from west coast to the interior states the more friendly people seem to appear to strangers. West coast don’t expect someone to acknowledge you if you smile or wave at them..and god forbid if your vehicle breaks down, don’t expect anyone to stop... but it is a slim possibility. Generally, people will try to avoid eye contact and ignore you. There can be casual conversation between strangers but again most attempt to ignore you and are uncomfortable. Midwest, generally are friendly with the northern half of the Midwest the friendliest for me in the US. East coast as a whole is much more responsive and friendlier than the West, then I’d say the south, then southern Midwest, then northern Midwest being the most open & friendly. Again the entire west coast generally is the least friendly on average between strangers.

The Lou is a "Beautifully Cursed" city if that makes sense. So much love and so much hate at the same time. I consider it a melting pot of cultures that hasn't warmed up enough in the right ways to actually blend everyone together. Most have no clue of this but uh. St Louis has the biggest Bosnian population in the US. Also the highest murder rate in the US. Go figure.

A lot of these places get around paying a full time wages and benefits by scheduling 32 hours a week. And then they want to feel like they own you even outside the workplace. Everything goes up but a persons wages. And if they could ask you to work for free, they would do that. A lot of injustice in Missouri and especially Springfield.

  • I was stunned to find out how bad Aurora was (and this was some time ago). What was even more stunning to me is that, even with a horrible crime rate, Aurora decided to not have their own police but share police with nearby Marionville! Funny thing- in Marionville (famous for white squirrels), one of the worst crimes you could commit is harming a white squirrel! But for Aurora to decide that rather than keep their own police and instead share police with another city, and do this after knowing how bad the crime rate was and is, is insane

I won't argue with your video [except for the Lambert's error]. My ONLY criticism is...IMO...the overall weather here in MO is OUTSTANDING. I understand that my opinion is just that. But...really...if one enjoys a true 4 season change...this state is incredible. Thanks for your video. Rx

It's a small house, in a quiet neighborhood(past tense..don't know if it still is) and I have some fond memories of my mom and step-dad inside and on the porch in the back. Glad to see it in this video..I miss them both dearly..

  • Hi, Nick: Great video, thanks for sharing. I spent two weeks on vacation in Branson Missouri and I have been to Silver Dollar City. The whole two weeks that I spent in Branson was great, no one ever tried to rob me, nor mess with me; while I was there. No one ever robbed me at silver dollar city, neither and I walked everywhere. I was staying in a budget motel on the backside of the Branson strip within walking distance from one of the shows that I walked too. No one ever bothered me and no one tried to ever mug me and I had a great experience in Branson, Missouri. Branson is like any other town, depending on where you go depends on what the area is like. In June of 2023, I spent a week in Manhattan New York for a concert performance and walked around Manhattan and was never bothered. In reality, Manhattan New York is considered Number two for violent crimes, drug abuse and theft. I also spent time in Washington State and visited Seattle Washington, including other parts of Washington. Washington State is considered number three for violent crimes, including theft and drug abuse.

  • Yes ! Officially its pronounced Missouree. I was born and raised in North ST Louis. A lot of the area's you have spot on but, but not all of St. Louis is that bad. Ex. South County is a good area to live and the schools are great. It seems like the expansion is going west. So we left South County and moved 60 miles away to a small town Warrenton, Mo. We love it! it still has that small town feel . We have a fair selection of stores and restaurants and about 30 mins from all the shopping could could possibly need. We also have Barnes Jewish Hospital, one of the top 10 in the Country. The crime isn't bad, people are friendly and neighbors look out for one-another. You can see the stars at night and hear the birds in the day. But the schooling is poor. Our Kido is grown so no problem there. Fun Fact ! Disneyland was going to be in Missouri but the powers that be insisted they sell Anheuser-Busch Beer. That was the deal breaker. What we say about our weather is " " Missourians love it here and apparently it looks pretty good to the rich of the west. We have the 4 seasons , It's not on fire and we have rain, so many are buying homes here. Property value is going up fast. And of Course The World Famous ST. Louis Cardinals ! We couldn't ask for more !

  • I spend about 1/4 of the year in Lebanon, well not in town but down by the river. I think you glanced over some of the good stuff about the area. There really is more to do than trout fish there, the Niangua river is one of the best rivers for enjoying the outdoors in the state and you can find something to enjoy year round. Summer you can go on a Party float trip or during the week go on a nice peaceful family/relaxing float and there is a ton of camping and swimming. During the fall you can float down the river and see all the colors of the leaves, take photo hikes or go to some of the historic sites. Winter really is mostly about trout fishing since most of the touristy stuff is closed from Nov to March. Spring everything opens back up and if you are fine with a lot of people you can enjoy all the same stuff from the other seasons. The best part about Lebanon is that it is a poorer area so you can have a fun and relaxing vacation for pretty cheap.

  • Lebanon is small but the 4 locals I know are awesome but it too is totally a vacation /seasonal business . They have sooooooo many canoe's because the Niangua River is one of the most canoe'd and Trout fished rivers in MO .Probably 3rd I'd say. State Record brown trout caught there and most likely it came from the fish hatchery located @ the mouth of the ice cold natural spring that Feed's the Niangua.
