I got the old Nitro 5 and I love it, the only thing I dislike is the terrible cooling, if they let us teardown the heatpipes easier for repasting It'd be much better. Granted I've upgraded several things over time: -120Hz Panel ($100AUD) -16GB RAM(~$95AUD) -Intel Optane -> 256GB SSD on purchase (~$75AUD) on an i7-8750H GTX1050.
Philippines in a nutshell. Everything is thrice as expensive.
4:54 "speakers? Let's not talk about them" Me a nitro 5 user, very understandable have a nice day
@Vasu Srivastava they are so good noone wants to talk about them
@Vasu Srivastava its not terrible but for my taste, the gains it has was bad imo. A cheap desktop speaker could produce 50% louder sound for the same volume. Maybe just me but i rarely use the speaker anyway
@Vasu Srivastava I mean web development is not heavy on a machine, but color accuracy and keyboard quality might be a concern, look into that
@Vasu Srivastava i haven't tried develop a website using this laptop yet but i can assure to design something is pretty difficult with smaller display. If you have big monitor web development should be solid. for performance, battery is quite slow but plugged in it was decent. just came across this review. my first foray into gaming laptops was the 2019 edition of the Nitro 5, but holy hell you're so right about the positioning of the WASD keys and trackpad, it took me months to adjust to, and even then it never felt truly comfortable. I've watched many of your reviews and I like the clarity and your straight-to-the-point style. I've noticed that before spending a lot of money on a good laptop it's better to do ample research. I also noticed that my x360 with only an i5 8250 and UHD 620 graphics plays many games at 720p and on such a small screen the lower resolution is not that noticeable. For serious gaming a have a very well decked-out desktop but it's nice to sometimes sit at the kitchen table and game a bit. I use a Redragon K585 DITI and a wireless Logitech M570 Trackball mouse. Picked one of these up after watching this review this morning. (Got mine at Best Buy for $669). Here's some thoughts coming from one of the first gen Nitro users. Replacing my i5 7300HQ/GTX 1050 4GB Nitro 5 with the poor cooling, Dave is right that this machine stays way cooler and doesn't throttle like the old model does. Keyboard: I have stupid-large hands and it feels fine, cramped sure, but since my fingers are so long anyway I'm used to the "claw grip" in order for my thumb to reach the space bar anyway. Screen: Less light bleed through than my old model by a lot, but it's still there. 60Hz should be fine. One thing Dave didn't mention here is there's no SD card slot - Kinda a bummer for content creators. The USB Type-C is not DisplayPort/Display Out. The performance of this machine is great. This will be my second Nitro since the first one held up. Resale value is surprisingly strong so there's that going for it too. Unit and power brick are noticeably lighter in weight and size than my old Nitro, but it's still no ultrabook. 8GB of RAM is not enough. With the reservation for the AMD Radeon onboard graphics you're left with 7.5GB of usable RAM. This becomes a great buy with some upgrades. If you invest another $100 into this by adding a 500GB 2.5" SSD as well as another DDR4 3200 8GB stick, there's not much that's going to slow this thing down.
I have an older Acer nitro 5 as well. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you get for the older nitro 5 that you sold. I am asking cos I was thinking selling mine as well.
@@romisebastian7394 I still need to wipe mine before I list it, but mine has a 1TB hard drive and 16GB of RAM installed as well. From what I saw on eBay my model with those upgrades sells for about ~$475 and that's about what it would go for on Craigslist as well. So for me paying ~$200 for a new machine is worth it.
@@aeroraccoon4167 Ah, certainly worth it!. Thanks man.

Wow, three drive bays. That's a great selling feature for creators that need a lot of onboard storage. Also a great way to reuse that SATA drive however, I would only put an SSD 2.5" in there not a real HD, just to keep down the heat and noise and for speed. You may even be able to use one of those adapters that go from SATA 2.5" to two m.2 slots and get 4 drives in the thing. No soldered on RAM so both slots are available, even the WiFi is upgradable. They did good with the internal layout.

I have the 2019 model, yes the screen is dimm. since my hand is smaller than yours, I didn't find any trouble with keyboard. trackpad is nice but I mostly use mouse and turn off trackpad, same with speaker, I mostly use headphone.
Battery life? In my country they offer the ryzen 7 3750h+ gtx 1650, @120hz, 512 SSD
@@ukino22 well, I got ryzen 5 3550h and rx560x (in my place there's no other option at that time), battery time is so so, standby around 4 to 5 hours, for gaming maybe just around 1 to 1.5, I'm not pretty sure tho.
@@youtubeshadowbannedme what setting did you use to get that?
@@takubaka1516 you can use Throttlestop for undervolt it. It might give you more battery.
Can you turn off the keyboard backlight?
Im wondering if this can run demanding, heavy games at low graphics settings smoothly, also it would be nice to have a review of the Msi GF65 Thin 10ue with the rtx 3060 and i5 10500h. Its the cheapest laptop with a rtx 3060 but i wonder if it has flaws with the rest of the machine.
Thanks for the review Dave! So helpful!
Dave: Now I want to close off this conversation 5:42 *Closes laptop screen* Nice timing Dave 😂👌🏻
noticed that too. Good body language skills
"Speakers? ..... Let's not talk about them." DAMN LOL does that communicate exactly what we needed to know.
Yeah, Acer laptop speakers are really shitty
Israel Makinde good thing my saver monitor doesn’t have speakers, it’s cheap enough as-is 😂 if they put them in my monitor it would’ve been useless and embarrassing.
@@bruhdaboneslol. No one really cares about monitor speakers though, so that's cool. I've used quite a few windows laptops over the years, Dell laptop speakers are the best overall, many people seem to have forgotten how good the Dell XPS L502x speakers were, probably better than the new 16" macbook's
Israel Makinde my parents use the speakers in their monitor but that just makes sense for them lol
@@bruhdabones is it an all in one pc, cuz all in one pc speakers are getting good, especially those ones with nice graphic cards in them
mine is one with i5 8th gen and gtx 1050ti. its performance is great but the design is way different than you shown. The WASD keys are perfectly placed not too left. And the speakers are good
I just got myself one 2 months ago to get started on Blender (CGI) here's my experience with it. Render time for 1440x1440 x2 at 200 samples will take around 3-5 in Cycles minutes to render with thermals around 75-84 average. Because the GTX 1650 only has 4 GB of RAM and the system has 8 GB I wouldn't recommend relying on the displacement nodes in Cycles because the video card will run out of RAM causing Blender to crash or get greeted with the Blue Screen of death. Works fantastic in EEVEE render engine In summary the Nitro 5 is great to start off with for Blender but keep in mind that RAM and storage is limited but can be easily upgraded in the future.
