In this video I cold start 2 80s generation Ford F-series pickups. A 1986 F150 and a 1981 F100. I get them running after sitting for an extended period of time, get an exhaust clip, as well as show the engines of both and a brief tour, enjoy!
The 1980-1986 fords are the best trucks in the f-series history, and better than any Chevy or dodge

I beg to differ, the dent side 70’s pickups were the best F series. This, called a bullnose. Is the best variant of the “OBS style” F series as they had the bullnose, this. Bricknose, and the aeronose (ugly) We have an aeronose but I’m looking for a bullnose. With a super rare 3 speed column mounted manual trans.

@Stephen Sword Yes, they’re both good looking trucks. But I like the blue one better cause it’s in more pristine condition. I’d use the red one more for hauling things

I had a 1981 Ford Escort when I was in High School it was a good little car it got me to school and back home just fine. I wanted a 1993 ford Ranger pickup at first but my mom and dad couldn't find one without having making payments on it so I ended up with the Escort☺☺☺☺

I just bought an '83 barn find... body in great shape... 302 engine... low mileage.... needs new tires...hasn't been started in 10 years... will attempt to get 'er running next weekend...garaged since 2010...
I just saved a 1996 olds aurora, Was sitting since 2011, cranked right up when I replaced the fuel pump haha
I like the 80s f150's body, the 90's f150 interior, and 2011 f150 drive train. Cool!!
lovely carburetors. That is why I like a clutch on a carbureted vehicle, it helps when you can hit the clutch and rev the engine a little to help it pick up gas.

@@Bajaheat there is no manually operated clutch in an automatic
MyStupidLaptop obviously...but the op is acting like you can’t rev up a automatic, park or neutral would be the same as pressing the clutch in

my dad would get mad if I kept cranking the starter by letting go of the gas pedal to let it idle higher. People were more patient back then, just sit in the truck and hold the pedal. I'd take that memory and that old truck over these new plastic trucks.

Amazing the difference between the EFI and the Carb. gotta love the 85-86 Trucks with EFI. It appears the 81 has overdrive transmission because it says PRN(D)31 but the 86 appears to not have overdrive? Strange.

The '81 F100 took a lot longer to start this time considering it started right up when doing your in-depth tour on it. What was the outside temperature when you made this video? D'you remember?

@wizard101emily You sometimes have to rev an engine to keep it running tell the engine somewhat warms up. I get to go through this each day with me 1988 Dodge Ram D250 Le. Yes it is hard on the engine to rev it up when it is cold but it is that or sit and crank and crank with no luck. In this case it was quite needed.
my grandpa back before he died he had a 1978 F100 and it was a decent truck,... but then after he died it was left sitting undriven and now last I heard when my aunt sold it after my grandma died it wasn't running at all.
The 1981 Ford F100 needs some work. The 1986 Ford F150 is perfectly fine.

It's shutting off because the choke is too far advanced for the temperature. When you press gas it open thottle and give more fuel to match choke and probably you idle idle screw is set to low.

I think with a little tune up that 81 f100 will start and run just as quickly as that 86 f150

I think on that first truck, seems like it had an issue with the choke which kept causing it to stall.

@jmurray01 the only reason the 81 wasn't reliable was due to the fact that it was carburated big difference between that and fuel injection if u will notice the blue 86 stayed running

Gonna burn up the starter on the 81. Prime then crank. Had a 83 f-100 4.9 inline 6. Prime 3 times and cranked over every time.

I like 1986 Ford was not aware fuel injection was available... It's my under standing fuel injection came later like 1989... Post a video of you driving the 1986 truck

That poor 1981 needs carb work. The 86 sounded great.

Adjust or put a manual choke on the 81... Might save a battery and a starter

What is the central gauge on the dash of the 1981 F100 ?
krugerblue it is where a tachometer if equipped, would be located.
Plug them in for ten minutes if it's below 0. They warm up great. Unless you have a 90's truck then if you need to plug it in above -20 there's something wrong with it.
Can you find other cars tto attempt to start like that 2000 jeep with the blown engine and the nissan with the. blown engine

on December last year I have been getting my grandpa's 85 Silverado to stay running in the cold weather but when it keeps dieing it was funny when it won't stay running and it stayed running and when I opened the hood it was still running
The first one you started needs to be pumped before you even try to start it. You will burn out the starter doing that cuz it wont start.
It has a manual pump. Pumping the gas does nothing with a carberated engine.

old ones are around, Speculation that ive heard is that they are bringing it back. Ford discontinued the Ford Ranger so who knows what will happen.
The '81 ford is almost identical to my '81, except mine is an f150, different paint, and in better condition. Other than that, same truck.
only the 80 and 81 models it was because ford decided to drill a bunch of holes in the frame to get it to be lighter

bad years, frames broke a lot on the early 80s. 84+ I think was fine.
