Thanks, for the information. I never heard of this, until last week. I live in a small town in PA and I know we have some in our area, so I am going to take my son and we are going to go find some. By reading the comments, I am learning how to plant the seeds uphill, too. That might be a good video, since the commenters are so rude, and they think that no one should ever be able to make money. My woods at my house is eat up with this stuff. 400 acres of the lot. Golden root as well. Some seng plants out here are well over 50 years old. The 70s didn't touch this area 💵💵💵💵💵

Thanks, man. I've been looking for a video that explains in simple terms how to find ginseng, and what to do with it. All the other videos I've tried have a lot of unnecessary talking, poor camera work, unclear instructions, or it seems like they're skipping important steps. It's like they're showing off more than teaching, or trying to keep parts of harvesting a secret. This video had none of that. Good stuff.

I watched quite a few different people hunting ginseng online... watching your video for some reason gave me a good perspective of the environment im looking for. Ive done plenty of research for a couple years now on the climate and environment the roots habitat is, but whenever i tried looking it was always in late fall, DIDN'T KNOW THEY TURNED GOLDEN in late fall! no wonder i never successfully identified them. Im going to hunt here in august and record the location while they still have berries then harvest when its the legal time. Anyone know a good app for recording coordinates without service or data? Also, everyone slowly digs the root out with a gardening shovel. I forget exactly what type of shovel your using, but that made digging it up so much easier... glad i got one, thanks for the tidbit of common sense i neglected to consider.

When I dig mine I'm going to use a fork. In my opinion, a shovel of any kind is more apt to slice through or break it in some way. I'll loosen around it with a garden fork then use my hands.

Can they sometimes have a pinkish tinge to them? We built a fence and disturbed the soil and found roots that look just like this, but some had a pinkish hue, but very light.

Tom Davis nah, I deal with trespassing ginseng diggers frequently, and my land is my business. There’s a foul culture among too many ginseng diggers, that if they can get away with stealing someone’s ginseng, then there’s nothing wrong with it. Trespass and theft are not innocent crimes.

After digging the ginseng plant root, shouldn't you replant the stem for future growth?

+soo ronald NO, the plant will have red seeds that need to be replanted if they are still there. Often times they have already fell off, or critters ate them before they dropped. It is the law to replant the seeds.

I've seen roots on one prongs bigger than four prongs. The digging laws, are just to keep the poor man down, laws, such as you can only dig from September 1st till December 31st, up north where l live, you're lucky to find any by mid October, they say this is in order to keep it from going extinct, which is a lie, the best way to keep it from going extinct is to let people to start digging in August, when the berries turn red, then the digger needs to take them uphill and plant them a couple of inches below the soil, wild turkeys and deer ( among other forest denizens ) are the biggest danger to the plants extinction, they eat the berries... No berries, no future plants. But, the laws in place, are to keep the poor, poor, if one can go out in the woods and make as much as an attorney or doctor, has to be stopped. There are plenty of places, deep in the woods, where no one has ever been ( perhaps some Indians ) that ginseng is thriving, if naturist want it to thrive in more abundant places, let the diggers get in there, before the animals eat the berries, then ginseng will never go extinct.

If you're using the root for personal use and not selling it there is a way to plant it back. If you will cut where the growth rings meet the root then the ring section can be planted back in the hole you just dug. Ginseng will have another nub like stem for the next season beside the stem that was up.

Jing Luo. Cultivated plant's will Never have the Chemical compounds found in it's Wild ancestors, Similar BUT Not the same . The slower growing time, the naturally fertilized soil is where most medicinal properties come from, rain, the lack there of, makes It strengthen or weaken as it NATURALLY Should.. How do you find buyers to buy what you find? Also, how can we use what we find? We actually had poachers on our land and we caught them on our property cameras and they emptied their pockets and gave us the Ginseng that they found on our property, we didn't call the cops, we probably should have. Tom Davis nah, I deal with trespassing ginseng diggers frequently, and my land is my business. There’s a foul culture among too many ginseng diggers, that if they can get away with stealing someone’s ginseng, then there’s nothing wrong with it. Trespass and theft are not innocent crimes.

After digging the ginseng plant root, shouldn't you replant the stem for future growth?
+soo ronald NO, the plant will have red seeds that need to be replanted if they are still there. Often times they have already fell off, or critters ate them before they dropped. It is the law to replant the seeds.
I've seen roots on one prongs bigger than four prongs. The digging laws, are just to keep the poor man down, laws, such as you can only dig from September 1st till December 31st, up north where l live, you're lucky to find any by mid October, they say this is in order to keep it from going extinct, which is a lie, the best way to keep it from going extinct is to let people to start digging in August, when the berries turn red, then the digger needs to take them uphill and plant them a couple of inches below the soil, wild turkeys and deer ( among other forest denizens ) are the biggest danger to the plants extinction, they eat the berries... No berries, no future plants. But, the laws in place, are to keep the poor, poor, if one can go out in the woods and make as much as an attorney or doctor, has to be stopped. There are plenty of places, deep in the woods, where no one has ever been ( perhaps some Indians ) that ginseng is thriving, if naturist want it to thrive in more abundant places, let the diggers get in there, before the animals eat the berries, then ginseng will never go extinct.

If you're using the root for personal use and not selling it there is a way to plant it back. If you will cut where the growth rings meet the root then the ring section can be planted back in the hole you just dug. Ginseng will have another nub like stem for the next season beside the stem that was up.

Jing Luo. Cultivated plant's will Never have the Chemical compounds found in it's Wild ancestors, Similar BUT Not the same . The slower growing time, the naturally fertilized soil is where most medicinal properties come from, rain, the lack there of, makes It strengthen or weaken as it NATURALLY Should.. How do you find buyers to buy what you find? Also, how can we use what we find? We actually had poachers on our land and we caught them on our property cameras and they emptied their pockets and gave us the Ginseng that they found on our property, we didn't call the cops, we probably should have. I hope we don't see them again.
