I just read a long article giving stats on the battles that ensued between the tiger vs lion. They don't usually meet in the wild, but can meet accidentally in captivity. When battles did ensue, since early 1900s the tiger was usually the winner. Whoever called the author a fan of lions was right. The tiger is bigger, stronger and dispatched the lion quickly - sometimes w/.one swipe of his paw. One time a fighters rather long. Both animal sustained injury. The tiger while injured, actually gutted the lion, leaving him to die. Sometimes both animals die. They were also pitted against each other for sport. So clearly your lion has great endurance is wrong. A tiger has better endurance so if the battle goes long, it will not go to the lion. Courage you say is an advantage for the lion. Like a tiger has no courage. How does one know when an animal is showing courage? One may think this is what the animal is showing but actually don't have any idea therefore can't really say. I know when it comes to lions, lion fanboys say a lion has courage because it never backs down from a fight and always fights to the death. But this is courage because I have seen many times lions retreat and not fight. I have also seen many times lions break off from a fight it was losing and retreat. A tiger has much stronger front legs therefore has much stronger paw swipes. Not only that they are much faster and come with the longest claws of any big cat. The lion is no match for a tigers paw swipe. #4. A tigers bite force is 1,050 psi while the lions is 650 psi. That is only 62% of what a tigers bite force is. That is much more than barely weaker jaws. That is a lot weaker jaws. #5. Historical data show that lions rarely kill tigers and it is very hard to do. Tigers defeated the lion in 86% of the just over 1,900 battles between them in the roman colisum. This video is clearly wrong and made by a lion fanboy who everybody knows make completely false and heavily edited videos. Lions didn't come close to winning even half of the fights but like I said, merely 14% of them. I have gone over at the very least 30 different sources that all indicated what I just said. There are many videos about this topic on youtube, and they often reach different conclusions. As for the fights in ancient Rome, many accounts give the most victories to the tiger. Furthermore, more experts favour the tiger. But as is said in the video, much depends on the individuals. Is it a male lion in his prime against a female or a Sumatran tiger (the smallest subspecies)? In that case the lion has a much better chance of emerging victorious. But a male Siberian or Bengal tiger in his prime will handily beat a lioness of an old male lion. If a male lion in his prime is pitted against a male Siberian or Bengal tiger in his prime, the tiger still has a better chance of winning.

This fight will always depend on the size and weight of both cats. A Siberian tiger will most likely always win agains any lion. But a bengal or Sumatran tiger would be a close call. Considering the lion does have more combat experience as stated as well as a protective mane that will come in handy against the tigers stronger bite force. Also tigers will instinctively always flee from a life threatening fight, where as a lion will always fight to the death.

From everything I have studied the Tiger wins most of the time in the wild. This was majorly surprising to me because of the title the Lion has “king of the jungle.” The Lion battles often; defending the pride and taking part in hunts when necessary. However, the Tiger is bigger (heavier) and stronger. All things being equal (age, experience etc) I now put my money on the Tiger.

I think the winner of this fight will depend on time. If a tiger ends the lion before it loses stamina, then the tiger wins. If a lion sustains the damage the tiger gives until it gets tired, then the lion wins, but tigers for sure won't pick a fight with a lion because they don't want to get heavy damage unlike lions who would fight to death.
