“Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.“ 1 Timothy 4:12
So I just turned 70, and we have moved off our sailboat home in the Caribbean to buy 52 acres in Minnesota and follow you kids into regenerative cattle farming. Wish us luck, and keep teaching
Way to go, Sir!!! -the Shepherdess
Good luck Gary. I retired at 52 and bought pastures in eastern Oklahoma where I raise Highlands and Dexters. I just pushed 1/3 of my fold, including the two donkeys through the work pen yesterday. Shoulders and knees are sore. Watch the horns, and the 500-1000# body weight. Bovines are good for your blood pressure.
@@nelly7834 we are in Eastern Oklahoma as well.
That's wonderful. Family is your #2 resource. #3 is your neighbors. But #1 is God, without him it's all in vain.
Greg Judy, Gabe Brown, and Joel Salatin inspire farmers daily!
So true! Another to add to the list is Richard Perkins in Sweden.
Oh my, its so good/nice to hear "young people" with basic common sense. Rotating stock and even food plants is so basic and has been used for thousands of years. I don't normally watch live streams or podcasts but this video had me glued to my screen and I enjoyed the "old ideas" being put out and proving that they do work. Less bugs, less weeds equals much less spraying of crops and much less intervention of livestock. Its a win win situation. It costs less to finish the meat and I sure bet that its tastes much much better. More power to your elbow young lady keep up what your doing as your doing great, don't let anyone say otherwise. The WORLD is now in safer hands..... thank you
Your encouragement is invaluable to me! Thank you very much. -the Shepherdess🐑🌱
Great!
We have such a great responsibility of continuing on the legacy of farmers. It's hard, but the blessings and rewards are so worth it! Thanks for the great info and intro!
AMEN, and thank you!
That was a great video!! I am currently trying to re establish our family’s farm that we have had since the 1890’s…It is in New Braunfels area and I get so much inspiration from you
I am 64. Thank God I am below the national average of 65 😂👴 Thanks for helping inspire others to find their way into farming.
Laughing hard!!! Gotta bring that average down any way we can. 😂
@@theShepherdess actually you still young 👍
Thank you for protecting our watershed. Living in the Chesapeake watershed, I daily see the results and damage of human interference.
We pulled our 5 out of public school (7 years ago), bought a farm this year, and started learning all we could. With no experience we now grow much of our own food, massive gardens, fruit trees/bushes, chickens and rabbits. Researching cows/sheep next. We’ve never looked back.
Way to go!!!!
We are all proud of you Keep on with your plan
I wonder why more people not keeping bees as a stack to primary farm. In my area that pays well. As a consumer I pray for the small farms to come back. Its so much healthier food sources.
Awesome. I looked up his farm. He's less than an hour away. Good to know.
That’s very nice of you to share other people’s stories! Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for commenting. -the Shepherdess 🐑🌱
the bright side is i`m still below the national average at 56, now i just need to kick it into super over drive,, thank you guys for some extra tips,, great video
Thanks Yooper 😁😁 -the Shepherdess🐑🌱
I also want to get into regenerative farming with mixed animals and animal rotation. funny enough i was also looking into highland cows
The Lord gave me a desire, and He is also giving me creative opportunities to grow my farm business. We love it!
He is just so good. Has more for us than we could ever imagine!!!
I just hope the term “regenerative farmer.” Doesn’t get used like the word “organic” does in the future. I am full force running meat birds and egg layers in chicken tractors on a 1/4th of an acre, nothing crazy. But I’ve fallen in love with the regenerative agriculture that Greg and Joel promote heavily! I am looking to start a flock of sheep once I am on my parents 5 acres and up the meat production from the birds! But we live in florida and the lawn is awfully sandy! I am looking forward to regenerating it, like I did my grandmothers 1/4 acre with meat birds
Very true: it’s up to the consumer to hold the producer accountable. -the Shepherdess
That’s awesome!! God bless it.
another great interview and pleasantly surprised to see highland cattle in the U.S.
Thanks, Andrew! -the Shepherdess
So cool! I also know a young man named Eli who's doing the same thing!
Great questions and information. I particularly like the topic of stacking enterprises. I always appreciated any industry that realized parts of their business that lend itself to other financial opportunities. Example: our local beef/pork processor already had access to beef and pork so they bought a lot of smokers/cookers to rent out so they could sell their pigs to people that wanted to have a pig roast. So, in the summer they produce income from their pigs as well as the rental on cookers. or, maybe you add a greenhouse to your farm. you already have access to soil and fertilizer. Raising meat chickens as you mentioned...another good example. maybe you gather high potency chicken fertilizer and dilute for greenhouse plants. etc. Great content. Thank you.
Thanks Dan!! Modern small-farming will have to look different in order to generate the income we farmers need, but like you have said, the stacking opportunities are ENDLESS if we get creative. -the Shepherdess🐑🌱
Great interview. I'm 85 and have a farming background. Wish there had been social media when I was your age. I love the way you guys share your knowledge gained by both success and failure. Good luck and keep the faith.
Thanks, Reggie!! Your encouragement really means a lot. -the Shepherdess 🐑🌱

Great interview! You ask intelligent questions and then.....allow your guest to do the rest. So few interviewers can do this!
Appreciate this so much! Thank you for encouraging me. -the Shepherdess 🐑🌱
So true!
Bill Gates needs to see what Regenerative Agriculture can do for the planet.
Amen. Not sure it would help though…
Great video, just started following. -Leonard Land and Livestock

Hello!
The internet taught me that not all cattle live on grass covered hills. Blew my mind to be honest.
While observing your podcast I have noticed that some of the conversation at the bottom of the screen is running into the titles about the spreadsheets or other distractions. I have my captions turned on due to a lack of hearing. Is there any way to correct that situation?
Hi Paul, that’s a good point and something I didn’t consider. I’ll try and update the location of my captions in future videos. 👍🏻 Thanks for your comment! -the Shepherdess 🐑🌱
How many cattle per acre using these methods ? If starting with brand new pasture what type of grass do you recommend ?
🔥🔥🔥
🙌🏻
I want to control koshia on 320 ac. How many goats, sheep, cows and chickens and ducks do i need to do it.
Cattle learn much quikly to people.
How do you compete with prices of the big company's like Purdue? I saw he held up an average size packaged chicken for 24.50. Here, walmart has the same size chicken for 6$. I have a great interest in getting into farming but it seems so impossible to compete with these Colossal company's. I don't even know how its possible they sell so low but it seems impossible. I always see these little farms selling things at astronomical prices and i don't understand. I need to start reading i guess. Love the videos. I hope you keep at it!
I'd say it's a niche market. These animals sold at Walmart for cheap are very badly treated in a small confinement. So more and more people are now interested in free range organic chicken, even it costing considerable more
You have to understand and be able to convey the difference in the two. Taste, nutrition value and final product are not the same as Walmart.
Would love to follow Mac farm but their not on KZhead?
Not everyone has a youtube channel. There is a link to their instagram in the video description.
Yes, please see the link to follow Mack Farms on IG. -the Shepherdess 🐑🌱
Eli please do a youtube channel.

No, just Instagram right now. -the Shepherdess 🐑🌱
Would love to have highland cows but they'd hate the Georgia heat.
Yes! same for me in TX :) -The Shepherdess
@@theShepherdess I've had highlands in tx and tn. They did good.
They did good in Florida especially the forest areas
Tani Muda = Young Farmer
So this is awesome.. but... she had land in the family... he is using his parents 20 acres... her advice is "don't go into debt"... sort of hard if you don't already have land...
Thanks for your comment! Lease land is an emerging option. Keep your eye peeled for opportunity!
Dose this guy have a KZhead?
Not yet! Check him out on IG with the link I put in the description. -the Shepherdess🐑🌱
Ah yes ! " Organic " as approved by the U.S.D.A. ! The problem with that is...... that the USDA allows the use of some man made chemicals and it's still called " Organic " ! Why is that ? Well , it's because the USDA is actually an indirect business partner of the large farming corporations. And most all of the various government departments are the same way. Such as the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA. Which is why GMO products are allowed and called " safe " for public consumption. The director of the FDA is likely to retire from government and then go to Bayer as a Vice President.
