Kanpachi Dori is a road that runs straight through the middle of Tokyo, littered with car specialty shops, tuning workshops and dealerships. One of those is J-Auto, an old school AMG specialist, filled with W124's and various other old school AMG's.

it made it nostalgic and a bit sad when you mentioned standing not far away when it opened in the 90s. I think it's because I'm now in my late 30s and realizing that you don't last forever and that many things from the distant past are long gone, but that there are those that survive like this shop and serve to remind us of what it was like then.
Same here. Also in my late 30s and starting to look so different on things now. Idk it’s maybe a kind of midlife crisis or just the age ?
@@lucabrasi8790, I think it is more reflecting on things being gone and that the older we get the further they seem away. Maybe that's what the mid life crisis is though... not the fear of age, but the sadness of days gone never to return.
shut uppp you are still young with plenty of life left stop being so drab on getting older friend
@@DylanTK different levels of awareness about yourself and life for sure but midlife crisis is when you knew in your 30s nothing being permanent but years later realise how you didn't actually believe it until then..... - Insert your favorite midlife crisis scenario when someone attempts to re-create the life that they never lived because they don't enjoy the one they've been living so far. Awareness is intelligent but ignorance of your awareness is regrettable for everyone in one way or another.
Same haha also late 30's and very nostalgic thought of when performance cars were still a bit of a niche. Especially these Mercedeses
these vehicles will never get old. such amazing looking works of art
🤣🤣
The Cars, the dealership, and the entire neighborhood is a vibe.
The only REAL AMGs.
I really like this style of video. I would love to see you check out some more specialty shops like this.
That is the plan! Thank you for the feedback!
Exactly man,💯 💯
@@dino_dc music PLS!!!!!!!!
More please 🇸🇿🇿🇦-
Even muting the audio at the beginning, I can feel the magnificence of these older Benzes... the proud conviction each one holds in their regal aptitude.
I’m new here, I enjoyed the video. This episode brought me back to 2006..when i was 23 and i bought my first ever W124 300CE 24V coupe…I will never forget those driving experience especially with “sport” manual transmission…I remember later in 2007 I ordered directly from Japan full widebody kit…from the company named “VITT” it cost me a fortune but the plan was to make my Mercedes looking similar to “hammer” look..Regrettably the car was sold out later in 2009 (I was young and the financial part wasn’t that strong) and then the widebody kit was sold 11 years later in 2020…I miss the car even today..❤ Subscribed.
Great story, good to see J Auto still in business. And the AMG cars are iconic and not going anywhere, their will be a market for them always. Take care, Rap artist DSJ from Los Angeles
Thank you for this work! You gave me a little time travel way back ... the w124 is an awesome car, the comfort, the material that was used for the interior was sooo much unique, build for you as per order. Just nice!
Awesome video man. Thanks so much for sharing. The edits and music were on point. I love the older amg's. They just have that muscular & classy look to them the new cars don't, and still plenty of power to have fun with on the road. I have a 1999 W210 E55 myself, but would love to try out one of those 6.0's or decked out 500e's. My mechanic also calls them the "last of the old tanks." Subscribed.
Anything 55 is good with me, nothing quite sounds like those old blown V8s! And for the edits & b-roll it’s all @noplan ‘s work!
This content is what I’ve been missing the most in my life thank you for this beautiful ageless video and looking forward to much more
So happy you like it! Much more to come!!
Great video Dino. Great to see the top Spec W124’s. Also lovely to see the sights and sounds of Japan. 👍🏽- Thanks for sharing 🙏🏽
Thank you, really appreciate the feedback!
Thanks for the upload! I'm envious of you living in the city or country of quality restores and rebuilds, especially on these young timers. Would love to visit the shop if I had a chance to visit Tokyo. Love that Atari sweater by the way, thanks again for this awesome video!
Thank you, you should definitely visit if you come to Japan. That Atari sweater will appear on a few vids as I shot a bunch on the same day 😆
Love your videos! Great to see more frequent uploads!
Thank you for posting this video! I've known about this shop for years but not much information is out there and I was hoping to get an in-depth look at their inventory. The W124 is a legendary platform to begin with, and these performance packages are just beautiful to look at.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great Video Dino - I remember these guys from one of your SH articles. Content is great and much cooler than anything anyone is covering, keep it up!
Thanks man, so happy everyone seems to be digging it!
Love the style of the video! Would love to see more such content!! ❤️
The stubby mirror is the standard (smaller) passenger side unit. Great channel, Dino!
absolute legendary cars. thanks for that amazing tour
In fact on all w124 the mirrors are different so the right one is smaller than the left one. Great shop, thanks for the tour and mich love to Japan from Germany!
You should do more videos like this. Not just about cars but other interesting places around Japan since your commentary is good. Your subscriber count will boom!
Thanks for the feedback. What would you like to see?
Tokyo- interesting places to visit and explore.😊
@@dino_dche is right I just subscribed
This video just popped up on my feed and you lured me in with the W124 thumbnail. I love the colour coded AMG wheels on these cars, they work so well. I also really like how Japan has preserved its culture - Its such a fascinating place, and they are so respectful of cars. The quality of aftermarket parts is also second to none I think - incredible what they spend on their vehicles often to improve the quality of them only, or on very small details. Really is fantastic. I am very interested in the ABC Kei cars, so anything on special shops for those would be very cool. Also Japan loves classic minis, so turlte trading and the other Mini workshops would be of interest. Thanks for the video.
Yeah the Japanese are crazy about every type of cars. Just in my general area there are 3 mini specialists! Will check some out for sure
@@dino_dc Fantastic, thanks for the reply
Damn.... remember reading about this shop from the SH article and it really resonated with me cause my late dad was a huge Mercedes and AMG fanatic. Suppose the fanaticism leaked to me as well because they are just beautiful. Great video man. Cheers from Indonesia🥂... btw, the wheels that were on the E 60 is a 3pc OZ Aero. We call them 3pc Aero in Indonesia and since the recent boom of pre-merger AMGs everywhere, they are really really super duper expensive in my country. But the odd thing is that there is no AMG emboss on the wheels and they usually have them...
Yeah they are special cars that’s for sure. The non AMG ones are replicas
Really glad you're uploading videos again, and these have been great. All the coolishness and polish of a SH article but with nice music and great commentary.
Thank you for the feedback, happy you like the style 🤙🏻
I have a rare R129 mosselman 300slr that I'm restoring, I love these cars and also love how much more appreciation they are getting these days.
amazing to see; thank you for capturing & sharing this bro 🥂
As a Benz enthusiast, this hit close to home. I loved every AMG in this video. Thank you for sharing such a awesome shop 👏🏻🤙🏻
Glad you enjoyed it!
Big follower here from your work at Speedhunters. Liking your new venture and looking forward for what's coming. PS: I worked for Nissan for 9 yrs in UK and spent many weeks and months in Japan, last time was in 2020 and miss it already. Love the country, the people and for a car nurd is a Temple of automotive culture.
Thanks man! Appreciate the following!
Really cool footage! Thanks to you and the people from JAuto it’s almost like seeing these cars back in the day in high quality when they were new….and they still pretty much are like new.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great little find mate. You see these awesome shops in strange places and I can miss them so easily just driving about your daily business.. Looking forward to seeing more of this awesome content mate 🇦🇺
Thanks man, trying to bring a few of these x week 🤙🏻
Okay Dino I didn't know you had a channel. Been following your work since 2005. So stoked, man. Can't wait to see more!
Oh man thank you so much, that’s one long following! Much love and thanks for subscribing
Thank you for posting this video!
Nothing like the benz vibe. Amazingly crafted vehicles and love my 3 different black series. True beast meets luxury cars.
It would be cool a Spoting video, I love the posts you make spotting in SH.
Great video my friend . The channel definitely deserves more love . Keep ‘em coming Dino . Best wishes all the way from India.
Thanks so much! Will keep working on it 🤙🏻
You rock Dino, big fan of your Speedhunter work.Thanks.😎👍
Thank you so much!!
This was great! Would absolutely love to see more of this.
Thank you! Working on it!
I've been seeing your photos and reading your articles for years Dino ( A decade even? ), glad to see you have a channel going happy to keep supporting.
Thank you for the support!! Spread the word ❤️
Sublime…I have a 1996 R129 SL500 imported from Osaka in 2021 with just 4,000 miles from new. The Japanese market really knows how to look after their MB’s.
Timeless Luxury good stuff never goes out of style
Simply AWESOME.
Heaven indeed. More power to you friend.
How awesome. I was living in Setagaya when I got my first W140 and shot my videos in the area. Nice video
7:14 I'm very fortunate in that I don't have to imagine the sound. The stock exhaust is actually whisper quiet at low RPM or idle. It may be a muscle car, but it's a Mercedes first. However, put your foot down and it roars - and it's almost entirely induction noise, not exhaust. Some owners go with a custom exhaust, but most keep it stock, at most adding AMG tips. Enjoyed the video, always a treat to see what our Japanese friends are up to when it comes to old Mercs.
Love the video! Can't wait to see more of your content. Hope you do a video about the Jimny's in Tsukuba 😉
Thanks! Yes planning to visit Rainbow Auto!
that shop is a heaven on earth
I’ve got a W124 wagon and pass this shop all the time. Thanks for the tour! Kanpachi dori is the best for cool car dealers!
Sure is! Planning to visit others shops on Kanpachi but 2 already turned down a video tour so sort of put me off.
Super dope video. I used to have a 260E. I currently drive a Gl450 and a C300. I love those old w124’s tho. Thinking about picking up a 300E soon. Keep doing it. I just found your videos and really enjoyed them.
Thanks for the feedback, always appreciated!
Good luck finding one that doesn’t have a reverse gear problem. Those transmissions take dumps like a dog. 400, out of the question as well. But these? Well, these were built not only by Mercedes but also Porsche. I would sell everything I have for a E500 or 500E and possibly a limb for an E60 Wolf 🐺
Thanks for sharing mate, those cars and causing goosebumps, mind boggling!!! Japan in on my bucket list and that shop already included watching your video.
It's definitely worth a visit if you are ever in the south side of Tokyo
Finally the video I have been looking for all about Japan & Mercedes-Benz
I loved that video. W124 is my favorite chassis.
Shop was sick 🔥. Loved the angles you shot the cars.
i just found this channel and im loving it!
Welcome!! Glad you found it ! 🤙🏻
ive had many w124s my nicest was 90 300ce 24v with full amg package so this hit home.!
Great video, thanks for posting! Beautiful examples 👌
This is actually a gem of the gems video. Thank you my friend for taking time for making this video this is as rare a video as the cars!
Thank you!
Great video. The pre merger AMG stuff is so intriguing. They combined everything into one car. Speed/Performance/Tuning/Style/Comfort/Luxury. I got a 95 E320 Coupe. And i love it. Curious, what camera are you shooting with. Great video
Loved it, thanks for sharing :)
Thanks for making this video. I love w124's.
those are absolutely beautiful!
Great video! Fantastic insight into this world. I'm sure your channel will blow
Thank you so much!!
Amazing cars. So many old school AMGs japan
We love Japan 🇯🇵, we love Germany 🇩🇪 ! From France ! 🇲🇫
Yes, did enjoy it - thanks!
Shout out from Miami. Thank you for the video W124 is one of the best chassis MB ever produced for the driver
Miami! Wow, need to visit, car scene is very unique there I hear
ive just been inspired ...seriously inspired ..!!i will get one for myself soon ..
Gotta check this shop next time I'm in Tokyo!
Incredible, thanks for the tour!

U R A KOOL DUDE. I IMMEDIATELY ACKNOWLEDGED UR PURE SPIRIT & HUMBLE SOUL. BIG UP ☝
I appreciate that
@@dino_dc love you
Love the video and the cars. I am fortunate to have a couple of cars but as a daily I have a 2001 E55 wagon which I love. I got bored of all the new cars out there and went into the past a little bit to see if such a car could be used as my daily driver. Happy to report it very much can!
You have chosen well, older cars just have the character and satisfy car people more
Nice taste!
The mirrors are asymmetric on all w124s - driver side gets the normal one, and the passenger side a heavily convex one. Hence the different aspect ratios
Great to see another video so soon Square Mercs FTW
This is so fire, didn't know you had a youtube channel. I follow you on IG but i barely use the app so i hadn't seen your posts about it. The videography is top notch, keep em coming. I'd personally love it if you could also capture the human perspective since you probs know the language, maybe just a short comment on who frequents the shop, how's the business doing, how it's changed since the 90s, maybe they have some old pictures in the back of the shop or some story to tell about the current lineup, etc. Not always feasible and they're probably in working hours so maybe it's just polite not to interrupt them, but if it's possible it'd be a great addition to the already great videos.
Thanks! Will definitely keep this in mind!
Amazing content, keep up the videos!!
I was flabbergasted, not sure what neighborhood I was in, but there were literally dozens of g wagons parked on the street. Tokyo is wild.
Gorgeous cars! I own W124, '92 300E 4 Matic for the last 25 years. Thanks for sharing. Maybe next time when I visit Japan, I might visit
Thank you! I hope you do as it's worth 30 min or your time to check out the place
So nice cars! Next time i have to visit this shop too
The door mirrors on the 124 and 201 Mercedes were not the same size from factory, one was square and the other rectangular. I think the longer one was the perspective type (objects in this mirror appear closer than they actually are) and the square was just an ordinary mirror, however I'm not sure.
I have been wondering why the mirrors are different (i have owned 9x W124) and they all have it, i also noticed that the 4th gen VW Golf also has the stubby mirror on the passenger side, but it´s more subtle than the W124.
My w116 only had a driver side mirror
That E60!!! and gotta admit AMG Block wheels are some of the best looking wheels ever made but as you said they really suit the W124 chassis
Here in Ireland they love their JAPANESE cars, my best mate has a 1992 MR2 & also an SUBARU. they're his pride and joy. On a side note I love your ATARI top, I've a few ATARI hoodies & T Shirts. I was a child of the 80's so I had back in the day the ATARI 7800 which was an upgrade of the 2600.
love these old boxy amgs
Wow, being in highschool in the '90s in Tokyo must have been so cool!!
It was! Best time to be in Japan, country has changed so much lately
great video, really enjoyed it ! and fhe fact that is filmed on your phone, great work
Thanks! Only the vlogging part is with the phone, the rest Alec (@noplans) shoots on his Sony A73
love love love those 124s
Hello dear sir Dino, I were glad to see this video, I big fan of Old school Mercedes especially Model W140 600S. I believe one day you will film about particular this model.
Great contribution Dino! I wish I have a specialist shop like that in my city for my 500.
Where are you from? Hard to find parts for them?
@@dino_dc I am in Vancouver Canada. Yes some parts are difficult to find and many interior trim parts for sure.
@@cwsam1256I would kill for a 500E, I would trade my built Tacoma TRD sport for one straight across, no matter the condition
