And to think he left that car up there without the keys!
@@moa-wg3bo iv seen it somewhere else as well it was auto trader a car thing I carnt rember I think I saw it there
Yes Jeremy flew back with the keys in his pocket!!!🤣
For those of you wondering, that exact Land Rover being filmed is still going strong and according to MOT data its doing about 12k miles a year!
With probably half of those miles to and from the car repair shop.
LR3 are pretty reliable tho
@@livzlievga4222 land rover and reliable don't belong in the same sentence
TON O'CLAY I don’t know why mugs like u think Land Rover are unreliable. If u take care of any car they won’t let u down. Get lost with your shite opinions
@@jai8star they aren't shit opinions they are facts lol. They have electrical problems like crazy. Aswell as engine problems. Like head gaskets and cooling. And some cars it doesn't matter how well you take care of it.
Remember watching this and thinking if only one day I could have a car like this, and after working and working I bought a new D4 in 2015 and it's everything they say ,just brilliant.
They need an off-road stig.
totally agree.
I'd take the opportunity
They don't need an off road Stig they need somebody that knows how to drive off road.
Some say he has never heard of Tarmac.
The twig
4:33 is just a beautiful symbol of what land rover stands for
I agree and only a true Land Rover lover will
Funniest part of the whole clip was the following week you ended up find out that Clarkson went home and took the keys the disco with leaving the crew and the car on top the mountain stranded.
'Where that green bit is,' ...oh very helpful.
+vioscios look carefully there is a slightly brighter green area where he points. the grass is bright green with no brown spots
🤣🤣🤣
1:06 *“Oi its pulling the whole of Scotland”*
Clarkson: Look at that view. Helicopter crew filming it: How cute.
"Its pulling the whole of Scotland!" LOL
Causes an earthquake
The soundtracks, the views and Clarkson, Top Gear greatest tv show ever...
Do you know the name of that classical soundtrack piece playing towards the end? I know I have heard it before, but I can't name it.
Ah I just found it! It is from the father of all soundtracks: Gustav Holst - Jupiter Edit: Apparently "Jupiter" is made of multiple parts and this specific part is named "Thaxted"
I thought you're never supposed to stand by the steel cable like that? If it snapped it could really hurt that guy.
sandplasma they're sweed strong men they don't care
I was thinking if that anchor came loose from the dirt it would become a projectile. XD haha
I mean, there’s a lot less risk involved with a brand new winch cable that is probably rated for twice the vehicle weight than an old chain. Nonetheless, the chance for danger is still there
Synthetic rope pals!!
James May almost got killed for doing exactly that during the Middle East Special. The cable suddenly tightened up on him, which sent him flying head first into a rock.
2:07 - "Where that green bit it" Urm..... it's all green.
Ikr 😂
in 2017 Land rover screw up discovery with the most idiotic design
ionutz11984 it's awful
thank god im not the only one that thinks that.
Who the hell would buy it? I've seen 'em on the road, I just don't get it. Awful!
ionutz11984 they look like shit but Atleast they sell the Diesel engines in america
exactly im stil in shock! i see them on the road and im stil in denial they are called discoveries?!
I remember Jeremy saying in this episode, after he got the 'disco' up the 'hill' he got a helicopter ride back (rich prick, won't be any more) leaving some of the team to take the car back down. He took the keys to the 'disco' with him. Some say they are still there today, feasting off zesty fizzy drinks and various liquids heated by diesel kindling.
cool
+Andrew Smart Won't be anymore? khm*herunsa10timesmorepayedshownowonamazon*khm
Andrew Smart cool cool
I just love the passion these guys have for cars ... amazing footage.
They use range roves as their crew cars as well as the new Discovery 4 (LR4 in america). every where they went in the specials including the Argentina and Bolivian off road special and Indian as well as Africa. Range Rovers and Land Rovers have been
In Top Gear Argentina christmas special, the crew also used Toyota Fortuners alongside their Range Rovers in the filming process.
They're brits, that's an obvious choice
The Range Rover/Disco is better than a Toyota as a film car imo - not because of their abilities but because the Range Rover has softer suspension which will help keep the camera steady, along with the higher top speed which may be needed to keep up with some of the cars they are filming.
Even on the grand tour
Land Rover and Range Rover are the same thing Land Rover is the brand Range Rover is the model
i like the emotional music at thhe end :D
@extraction706 It's actually from "Jupiter" from the Planet Suite by Gustav Holst. It was later adopter into the hymn "I vow to thee my country". They actually cut it into pieces in this film, part of it can be heard around 1:20
Still loving my Disco 3 after 12 years! Still goes off road just fine :)
LOL 14 years :)
@@KangoV👍🏻 Awesome
that wasnt diesel he was burning because if it was it wouldnt ignite like that. it takes alot of heat to ignite diesel. it looked like bartoline white spirit to me
+Michael Jagger Diesel actually puts out fires. The only way to ignite it is through extreme pressure. Very likely white spirit as you say.
+MilitantAT you actually can light diesel on fire. Thats how oil heated houses work. you just need a whole bunch of heat
+William Hamer Heating oil is literally diesel with die in it. You are correct.
Diesel will burn with a match on paper or wood it just doesn't explode like petrol.

It's a Land Rover, it's what they do. They can go anywhere, unlike other "suv's" like the Porsche Cayenne and BMW x5
Dan Cooper2001 cayenne and x5 are not really intended to be competitors for range rover. Then again g class walks all over range rovers so you know germans are still the best
QurttoRco You cant really compare a G Wagon to a Range Rover, maybe the Defender
Dan Cooper2001 Why put "Suv's" in ironic quotation marks? Suv means Sport Utility vehicle, not damn Offroader...
Lelantos and you can't really compare the Cayenne or X5 to a Range Rover...
Ralph Körner Definitely not, do you like Range Rovers May I ask?
Thanks for the answer!
I’ve got one. Identical to this. It’s phenomenal. Used it off road all over the uk. Mind blowingly good.
When I saw what summit he was about to climb, I just shook my head. When I saw him floor it and the car just...I was simply gobsmacked.
DEFENDER RIP until Land Rover decides to bring you back. Thumbs up for tribute to the Land rover DEFENDER.
Marlinspike hall are you happy now with the new Defender?
From 4:45 onwards it's really really beautiful, the scenery and the music.
Truly breath taking...
That is actually a pretty good idea. Something tells me those anchors might not be cheap though
3:40 Jamaica's national song :') I feel proud
Sounds a bit like Braveheart! :D
Actually, it is the middle part of Gustav Holst's Jupiter, from his planet suite. It was often adapted for hymns, even by himself (see Thaxted) the following part is of the same piece...The hymn is very nice, I always got goosebumps when we played it with our orchestra....
Freeman well i really do not care, it is the song i learned for my country and I'm proud misinformed person on the internet
whoa, wait, it's not as if I want to question your pride, it is more like I wanted to make a bit of, let's say, advertisement for this piece. As the text is yours, and really, as the music has been used as the base of so many different hymns, so only the text is important, it is perfectly alright to be proud of it. But the entire musical piece, especially the orchestral version, is great and I only wanted to tell you about it...Listen to it:)
It's "I vow to thee my country" British hymn
5:00 A glorious song to end on.
Amazing!
Best thing to do in that! Floor it and let the TCS sort you out lol.
What version of "World in Union" is used for the big climatic ending music?
Shirley Bassey and Bryn Terfel, the youtube video you want has a picture of the Earth on it.
I was wondering that too. Canada has that tradition on November 11th, but I don't know if we share that with the rest of the Commonwealth.
great video!! i cant help thinking about when he says "look at that amazing view" and he's right its amazing, but this is because he's never seen the view from the top of a volcano here in Guatemala...
SONG AT 3:45 I VOW TO THEE MY COUNTRY. a British hymn. the one at the end is different its called World in Union and is sung at UK rugby games
Oi, that 1st song is Gustav Holst's: The Planets - Jupiter :o Not a British Hymn
British hymn is to the same music mate.
Technically, Marlinspike hall, you are incorrect. 'I Vow To Thee, My Country' has lyrics, whereas the song at 3:45 does not, therefore it is not the same song as Jupiter.
Later in the series we learn that at the end of that shoot he went home on the helicopter used for the areal shots and left the car to the crew to drive back. However, he still had the keys in his coat... D'oh!
According to Wikipedia: Off-road up a mountain/Test: off-road ability. Clarkson tried to drive a Land Rover Discovery from the beach to the top of Cnoc an Fhreiceadain in Scotland, completely off-road. It was heavily criticised by environmentalists for the damage done by the vehicle's tyres. Clarkson left the mountain by helicopter with the Discovery's keys in his pocket, which caused a delay in its removal from the hill. Series Five, Episode Three
Wow. That car is amazing!
Wow, that view is just gorgeous. I have got to get me a land anchor. lol
Land Rovers are incredible.perfect mix of off-roading luxury safety and everywhere capability!
"Im never going to take this watch to a thousand feet" exactly you took it over a thousand feet lol
under water 1000 feet
That is an amazing view.
"in no time at all, i have a lovely pan full of steaming winter warming broth" LOL he said that in the video clip and people are gonna vote me up for subbing the video clip!
Legend has it the flags still there...
That is one hell of a suv.
hm.. jeep not SUV :)
A wonderful piece of advertising for Land Rover! - Spectacular!
If we choose what comes to us, I think you should do a test similar to this, on a different mountain. In the Marauder, that would be an awesome special!
Diesel? Doubtful he managed to light up diesel with a match.
ITmage plus it would be quite careless to just pour it onto the soil
cvnic cynic, I've done it many a time. The heat / fire will pull the fuel out of the ground. No worries, mate...
How is the wind not blowing the car off the mountain!? Fake!!
what this car does is bring civilization and comfort to bits of the world that would otherwise be difficult and inhospitable. awesome. makes me feel like a proud dad :-)
it was just, beautiful
The Land Rover Defender 110 is better for this sort of thing, I think.
AstralDragoon Youre on the money.
Yeah but... I'm american.
Triple259772 And..? Where's the problem?
***** What?! OMG...
Same reason some skylines are illegal.
And that is why horses are better than cars ;P
Till it falls into a hidden hole in the peat fields and breaks something.
Well yeah... But what's more likely? Gettin bogged or breakin something? 😛
Josiah Igescu You never know depends on how lucky you are.
True haha
Tho I think I've seen the worst of it... How much worse can you get than wombat holes? And if you go ontop of where the hole is you sometimes poke a hoof through. So I haven't broken anything yet! :P
Thank you very much sayertherebel and TheGreasedWeasel
This SUV is a beast, its only the driver that sucks, with a good driver this SUV wouldnt get stuck a single time. For people saying american SUV are better, try to compare them against the G class Mercedes or a better Land Rover which are the best SUV in car history.
That the difrence mate have you ever seen woman driving Disco nope and land cruisers are for soccer moms
You must be one of those people who has seen one thing their entire lives and dismiss everything else. Here in Australia we run mostly Japanese 4WDs with about 30k worth of gear on them to be able to do 3000km no fuel stop trips through crocodile infested rivers, bulldust corrugations, sand, mud and rock and even snow. Guess what.... We do get stuck but being able to winch out or recover yourself means life or death. Get over yourself Nancy
Exactly, why not taking a great SUV thats already all equiped and has less chance getting stuck in the mud?
I feel like putting a bucket over my head reading your response. Mate, a great SUV or not, they don't hover over the ground. Tyres, the type of tyre, weight, the ground conditions all come into play. The only thing a 4WD differs on not including engine power is the suspension clearance height and the wheel articulation. I have two Landcruisers, one 80 series with a 2" lift, 33" mud tyres and a bunch of other stuff like light bars, storage drawers, dual fuel tanks and a turbo diesel for touring. Just like a diesel can pretty much be submerged with a snorkel and it will run. My petrol Landcruiser is for playing about. They still get stuck. I strongly suggest you KZhead Australian 4WD Action to get a grasp of true remote 4WDing and not driving in a paddock with a car. Also a 4WD is actually a one wheel drive without diff locks. Lift one wheel on each side and no wheel will turn.
outwestlawns Of course but Australian army uses 6x6 g class, also if you really would want to not get stuck anywhere you buy a unimog
my lr3 is a f*$&ing piece of s^$t. dont ever buy one.
what a great episode
Fantastic soundtrack choices
thank you very much
"now that's a tasty beverage" very meme-able
View from the summit was breathtaking. And that soup did look nice.
@bencedars Thanks mate, would never have found it without your help!
great thanks
That's very very impressive
Land anchor? BRILLIANT!
You sir, made my day xD
This was a great feat. I can't wait to see what they do with the all new 2013 Range Rover.
briliant
That land rover looks right at home. :)
aaahhh cool good to know thanks !
Phenomenonal machine ^^
Once again with the phenomenal music choice in Top Gear. To hear "Oh Yeah?" by Propellerheads right at the start was a very welcome surprise!
@torende I would buy it mainly for its off road abilities. Such a great car. Would love to compare the LR4 to Jeep GC 5.7 Overland 2011, same ground clearance and aswell a nice off road setup.
“From just where that green but is to here” ITS ALL GREEN JEREMY!!!!
"It's pulling the whole of Scotland" LOL
Bravo
extremely entertaining
"Im stuck as a dont know what." lol hahaha
Now that's a nice job hes havin!!

that car has made it after sooo much help but still great car
Take an UNIMOG and you'll be up and back down that hill faster than he was up with his land rover P.S. his laugh @ 1:49 is epic :D

A fiat panda 4x4 is what you need here.
EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is sooo funny with him trying to drink the moisture from the rock lmao
What music is playing when he finally drives up the mountain at 3:39 onwards ? Its a classical music piece.
That is the first ever car to make it up the mountain. That will be in the scotland records
It's pulling the whole of Scotland! Bloody hell!
I normally hate when they stray away from real sports cars, but jeez that is really impressive.
I like his references to ray mears :))
