The Third Floor At The Château. Ep6
Hello everyone, today at the Château.
Ash and Tony show us around the third floor of the chateau and discover some beautiful little features a long the way, including vintage wallpapers, locks and our first key to the building.
When we brought the château, we got no keys or history about it. So to discover our first original door key is fantastic.
We will talk about of plans for this space and how we will live in them, plus start work on cleaning the years of mess from each room so we can start renovating the château.
And If you would like to join us on our family journey restoring this once abandoned château, then please just follow the link below, 🥰

About us and our story,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

Thank you for using illustrations and the red dots to show where you are/talkong about. It really sets you apart fromother channels. It can be so frustrating not having proper orientation when watching! What a lovely "canvas" to have to work with, I look forward to the progess! Congrats on the ownership!
I second this. It must add a lot of time to editing, but so very worth it for your viewers.
Thank you very much, it means a lot that you like and appreciate what we are doing 🥰👍
@@jenniferburk7965 thank you very much 🥰
I agree with you about the red dots and the orientation. Is a good idea.
Just think of the people who knew those spaces intimately. Whole lives lived there.
You two are inspiring, the clean up of the loft was transforming. This was the best tour I've seen, including the floor plan was brilliant. Most tours leave viewers confused. Thank You for the great vlog.
Thank you very much 🙏🥰
Loved seeing the floor plans. It made the tour easier to follow
You can tell who is the bravest in the bunch it is most definitely a very lovely home
Thank you very much 😁🥰
It is so nice to see the top floor basically sound. In so many of these once fine old buildings, the roof has deteriorated and let water in destroying ceilings and leading to serious rot.
Like Terry, I'd sit in the middle of that room and just stare at those views too! Everytime you folks post your videos of the chateau I'm just so amazed by those views...wow! As beautiful as everything man-made appears to be in the chateau Mother Nature wins everytime!
Thank you very much, yes the views are amazing from every angle 🥰
The dogs are so cute!
Thank you very much 🥰🐶
I used to live in a house that had a man made lake behind it. The house had a roof that overhung the whole house. There were spiders all the way around it all the time. Knocking down the spider webs during the day did not help, they would be back the next day. I got my step stool, a flashlight, and rubber gloves and went all the way around the house while it was dark and smashed every one of the spiders. The next day I used a broom to get rid of the weds. I didn't have anymore spiders after that.
Great to see Sasha putting up with Patrick teasing her , then she scattered him ... so funny . Loving the attic rooms and the roof rafters are a work of art .
Yes Patrick and Sasha are funny together, thank you very much 🥰
You guys seemed much more relaxed and natural. Best video so far.
Thank you so much 🙏 we are learning a long the way 😁
@@chateaudelalacelle You’re definitely relaxing in front of the camera 😊Plus as a fellow northener(Mancunian)Who has spent a few holidays in the north east,I love the accent. At first you were too quiet but this video is much better.
@@cathyblackhall3448 thank you very much 🥰
My organised architect mind appreciates your diagram spatial location explanations! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
My ears haven't fully adapted to the accent so I watch with CC on. Funny to see what new words it puts in for 'chateau'; this time it was 'chuckle'.
😂😂 thank you very much 🥰🥰
You must have to pinch yourselves every morning to wake up to your amazing land and chateau. I'm enjoying this so much seeing you make plans for your new home. Many thanks for sharing your journey!
Thank you very much, yes it feels like a dream sometimes, then you wake up in a cold wet caravan 😂😂🏰 ❤️
(Moira Ashton).. What beautiful wooden panelling up the stairs and the cupboard doors, I love the way the little dogs follow you, and I must admit I got distracted watching the little Dachshund cleaning the Westy's face!!! Soo sweet!!, but I went back again, to listen to what you said, I don't blame you not going up the ladder to the cobwebs,!! Loved the fittings on the dòors, I've not seen that sort of fitting before, Fascinating. Looking forward to your next vlog!!
Thank you very much, no we have never seen them before. It’s so nice to have all the original features 🥰
@@chateaudelalacelle The hardware on the doors is so wonderful. It's easy to clean the paint off -- soak overnight in a Crock Pot on the low temperature setting (do you know what that is? Also known as a slow cooker, but I don't know if you have them in France. Check a local brocante, you may be able to find one there). The paint will just fall off, maybe a little scrubbing with a toothbrush if there is paint in the details/crevices.
@@oxwoman8 thank you very much 🙏 what a great idea 🥰
That staircase is stunning
It is beautiful 🥰❤️
Patrick is hilarious!!!
😂😂 he is a little pest, but we love him 🥰🥰🐶
Great video! It was however difficult to hear you both speaking. I think the mic was to far away. Maybe a wireless mic might be a worthwhile investment.✌🏼
Thank you very much 🥰
That room would have been originally the linen room/laundry room. It would have been where the sewing and mending were done.
I agree with this. The amount of linens they needed and being that the servants stand on the third floor makes sense.
Thank you for showing us your beautiful home once all the work is done it’s going to be an amazing lovely warm and cozy Chateau. Bye for now, Rosemary🌹
Thank you very much, she will be beautiful when finished 🥰
It was interesting on how the young man was gone when the work started and then said as you can see we have this cleared out.
Thank you very much, ash was outside pollarding the trees when Tony was cleaning the loft as it would be a little cramped with two people in there 😁
@@chateaudelalacelle I heard he was drinking coffee, hee, hee, hee.I am sure you are all working very hard to restore your chateau and all the very best to all!!!💟
@@teedee3834 😂😂 Tony having a joke, thank you very much we are. 🥰
Spiders! Bah! You have an awesome journey ahead as rooms are envisioned and completed! Keep on y’all.
Thank you very much 🥰
Stunning staircase! Spiders hide from you.
I notice as you were walking around the floors weren’t creaking which must be a bonus for a building of that age. Thanks again for sharing
Thank you very much, no all the floors are really good 👍🥰
Not all champagne and roses. More like beer and pretzels. Love it.. Excellent video. You both seem more comfortable to be in front of the camera. The only thing I could suggest is better microphones.
Thank you very much, yes we have wireless ones but in the uk 😂😂👍
I live in Central New York State In USA. I purchased a Victorian Home and restored it. MY FAMILY and I resided there for 40 Years until my husband died. I also dislike spider's. MY mother told me to keep Eucalyptus In each room ( I would make dried Floral arrangements from my garden, and work In the Eucalyptus. It's pretty and smells Good. Eco friendly. It also works on the interior of boats. Spider's love moisture.
So smart to "clean out" all the mess first.
Thank you very much 🥰
Your production values are incredibly good. Crisp, well planned shots and B reel shots. Graphics are just another example of the time effort put into you vlogs. Well done!
Thank you so much 🙏 it really means a lot to us 🥰
@@chateaudelalacelle I am a new subscriber from Chester in the UK. Your vlogs are very good and I love to see a family from the North East follow their dreams. Still trying to persuade my boyfriend to give up his business, do up his house, sell it and then we could move out to France and do likewise.😊
I like the idea to start at the top and work your way down.
Thank you very much, start with the basics and from the top 🥰🙏
Are there any French historical societies that would have records of what the estate originally looked like in its glory days? I like the beer and pretzels...We Americans say, " Champagne tastes on a beer budget." Very exciting project to undertake! So fortunate to have found this wonderful place in redeemable condition.
Thank you very much 🥰 yes we are hoping you speak with someone once COVID restrictions lift to find more about it’s history ❤️
So far... Tony is the only one I have seen do any work. Lol Take care of yourself and move slowly so you don’t wear yourself out...
The wood panels on the walls are amazing! Those timbers are awesome!. Great views from the windows ... the door latches are so interesting! Love them. Pretty wallpaper. Oh, that looks scary!!! So glad you are giving this beautiful Chateau new life. Glad you are protecting yourself from that old dust. Wow, what a difference. Great cleanup!
Thank you very much 🥰
This was very helpful to figure out where everything is. Thank you
Glad you liked it 🥰
Your dogs are in every room with you guys, and are very entertaining !!!
Yes the dogs follow us everywhere 🥰🐶
Hi from Colorado, USA. Looks beautiful.
Hello and thank you very much for watching 🥰🏰
Omg I cant wait for the next vídeo. 😖
Thank you very much 🥰🙏
@@chateaudelalacelle 🤗
Had to pop back on as I forgot to mention just how beautiful the paneling along your stairwell is! Cannot wait to see that all lightly sanded and polished up! It will be even more breathtaking!
It will be stunning when done and chandelier fitted 🥰
Thank you for showing us around the grounds and the third floor. I understand why they chilies this area for their apartment!! Can’t wait to see it finished!
This is my 3rd visit to you today sshhh don't tell my boss, I'm hooked😂😂😂
Do save pieces of the wallpapers, they could be framed or the patterns made into materials for cushions and curtains, even bed covers perhaps? They are all stunning
Thank you very much, yes we have saved them and hopefully we can recreate them in the future 🥰
Everything is so gorgeous...the wallpaper, the beams, the window and door fittings, the built in cupboards but most of all.....Patrick.
WOW!! That was an AMAZING clean-up job!! 🎉 Well done! Good job placing the camera as you went up.the stairs. Youre becoming professionals. 😊
Spiders: They eat centepedes and flies, so you might not want to chase them all away. 😉🤣🤣
I think ash would prefer flies than spiders 😂😂😂🥰🥰
@@chateaudelalacelle Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!
Really enjoy watching your dogs! I also have a dachshund but only one westie.
Thank you very much 😁 both lovely little dogs 🥰
The paneling in the stair way is stunning it is going to look so beautiful when shined up.
She really will look stunning 🥰
Slightly green with envy to be honest! Well done on taking the plunge and I cant wait to watch the transformation. Currently doing a self build in the UK (living in a static on site with two children age 1 and 3 ) in the hope of raising enough money to embark on finding our forever home which I hope may be a piece of history in France. So we shall see! Keep going you're doing fab!
Thank you very much, hope everything goes to plan for you and you get your dream home one day 🥰🏰
The views around your chateau are so breathtaking. The thing I love about being in France is the vast amount of space everywhere. In England it's just so busy and crowded it's hard to find such space, unless I go up on Dartmoor!!! 😀
Thank you very much, yes that was the same for us, just no space in the uk x
Hi Sarah, have you ever been to west Wales, lots of coastal paths, lots of hills, narrow roads, pretty fields and motorway finishes at Carmarthen, that’s 1 hour away from where I live. WCL
@@patricianathan4676 Hi Patricia, I have been to Wales on holiday a couple of times and it's beautiful, I really liked it. I will have to venture back once lockdown is eased.😀. Thanks for the idea.👍
Beautiful footage. The dogs are such a distraction. In the best possible way. Take care guy’s ✌️
Thank you very much 🥰🐶
Thank you for sharing your journey with us. You guys are doing a fantastic job !! 🌼
Thank you very much 🥰
One of the other chateau channels has started a 'book' of pieces (samples) of the wallpaper found in the chateau and from which room. It's fascinating to see the old wallpaper designs preserved.
Thank you very much, a great idea to keep them all safe 🥰🏰

I’ve heard from some other chateau owners-if you want to clean the metal fittings on the windows (closure pieces) you can put them in a fire and burn the paint off. They say it comes off easily, then if it’s brass you can polish it. Just a thought. 😉❤️
Thank you very much, 🥰
I was so wrong about these videos and all of you, please forgive me. These are absolutely fantastic. What a huge undertaking, this is going to be wonderful. Thank you for these amazing videos. Also as far as the videos are doing, they are going from strength to strength, they are beautiful. Love the puppies.
Thank you so much, it is lovely to hear that you enjoy the videos. Yes we are learning more and more with each video 🥰
How very exciting. You have a long way to go. Looking forward to following you and your journey! How fun, and we only have to watch and not get dirty! Wink.
Thank you very much 🙏🥰
Nice job of cleaning Lucill
Thank you 😁❤️
Loved it! "Beer and pretzels". Cute and relatable. Loved seeing the old wood joists and framework, especially the wooden pegs. So interesting. Lucky break on the linen cupboards. What a nice feature. Thanks for sharing, and AGAIN loved the drone shots. Priceless.
Thank you very much 🥰
Love watching you save this place
Thank you very much 🥰
I definitely think you should try to incorporate some kind of laundry facilities on the top floor. It looks like you're going for a self-contained apartment kind of feel, and it would probably be a good idea to steal a little square footage from that huge bathroom for at least a stackable washer/dryer or an all-in-one. Nobody wants to tote laundry up and down those stairs.
Thank you very much, very good point 🙏🥰
The trees by that wall look like that Willow tree at Hogwarts in the HP movies that’s always throwing punches
That’s going to be an amazing apartment up there. Beautiful old wallpapers. At LeLande they save bits of the old wall papers and frame them then hang them in the rooms in which they were found when they’re done. That’s such a lovely idea especially with the beautiful ones in your attics.
Thank you very much, that’s a great idea 🥰
What a beautiful treasure house you guys🏰haha I just still can’t get enough of the dogs keep kissing..#dachshund 🌭💕
I know bless them 🥰🐶
Good cleaning and great space. Looking forward to seeing your progress next week.
Thank you very much 🥰
I enjoy watching you from Perth Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you very much 🙏🥰
The last one looks more like a bathroom laundry area it would be great to have a small stackable washer and dryer on the upper level if you could manage it. Hauling clothes up and down will get old in a hurry, just an idea. The center room looks more like a bedroom looks like it would fit furniture better.
Thank you very much for the great ideas 🥰
Wow again Tony outdoes himself such a hardworking man .love this video
Thank you very much, he is a very hardworking man 🥰 Wait till you see the work on the cottage 😍
I am new to your channel. I love it. My paternal and maternal ancestors emigrated from France in the 1600s. They landed in New France which later, under British rule, became Canada. My grandparents moved to the United States. I love seeing how some folks lived in France centuries ago. You're doing a great job! Please keep working and I'll keep watching.
Thank you very much and great for you to join us 🥰

Hello Sylvia, thank you very much 🥰🏰
Good luck to restore this castle. It’s always pleasant to see some people taking care of one of this old buildings . Welcome in Normandy !

Spiders are great friends in a house as they eat so many nasty and destructive bugs. I keep most of mine and when I do have to take one down I try to relocate the owners !
I love how the creature with the shortest legs got to the top of the stairs first
Enjoying your channel. So interesting seeing the beautiful chateau and watching the progress:))) Take care. 👍👍👍

Love this place. Yes you have a lot of work to do but even now it is stunning. What a find it was. 👍
Thank you very much, yes she is beautiful 🥰
Very good 👌looking forward to next vlog
Thank you very much 🙏🥰
Make sure you insulate external walls while taking care of the rot. I was watching another chateau blog where they have been living for the last 20 years and the external walls or the attic roof are not insulated and apparently the place is freezing in winter.
Thank you very much, yes we will have to try and keep as much heat in as possible 🥰
Ready to see you begin the work on this beautiful chateau.
Thank you very much, we are just down the basics at the moment but will be starting work on the cottage soon 😁🥰

Hi guys awesome video today loved it the chateau is looking beautiful can’t wait to see more next week 💖
Thank you very much 🥰
I love the exposed beams in the unfinished areas. Will you be leaving them exposed? That looked like a really dirty and head-banger of a job to clean that loft out. Good job, Tony! Be careful Ash doesn't use that 'there's spiders' excuse too often! Haha! It's going to be a long walk to the loo in the middle of the night. If there's plumbing in each room, wouldn't it make sense to have the bathroom between the two main living areas - the bedroom and sitting room? It would give more privacy between the bedroom and sitting room. Plus, a fireplace in the bathroom for ambiance while Terry's having his bubble bath ... how romantic! 💕😄
Thank you very much, yes we will leave the beams as they look beautiful 🥰

If you want to read writing etching in stone use "frotage" method: Soft paper, charcoal drawing sticxks and hold the paper or tape it over the writing; then rub the area with the charcoal drawing stick. To make it permanent then spray with a fixative. The writing will be easily readable. Supplies available at the local art/stationary store. Good luck.
well done Tony .x
Hello and thank you for sharing your new family journey, it going to be wonderful. Love hearing all your plans and your happy families new life in France. Keep up your great videos. Im going to be watching them all as you restore this beautiful Chateau. Lucill from West Kelowna,BC Canada.

Gorgeous woodwork. It looks to be in decent condition. I can’t wait to see it finished!
Thank you very much, yes it’s not to bad of condition 🥰
Another really great video - very well put together as ever, and a good idea to focus on just one floor. It must be a relief that the roof appears to have had pretty recent work done on it: a dodgy roof is the Achilles heel of so many buildings like these. Really looking forward to your next episode - bon courage!!
Thank you very much 🙏🥰
Yep I have a massive phobia of 8 legged monsters and I really wish I had someone to get rid of any that come in mine. I spent two hours crying and shaking this morning cause I had one .... I have spider traps around my house ...
Yes I think ash will have them too as we will get many of them. Hope your are ok 🥰
One of the Westies may have an abscessed tooth. Another cause for excessive licking is ears is an ear infection, ear mites, or dirt/foreign object from rolling or running through hedges. Its entirely possible she was licking syrup off dads hands and pants, then the dachshund wanted a little residual off her face, rather than tending to an open abscess. Then again she may have a tiny cut from chewing on a stick. Which is not anything to worry about. Just give her a once over. If she has terrible breath or black in her ears it's worth a trip to the vet to fix her up. Again, this is just an observation from a short bit of video seen halfway around the world and my experience. Cheers!
