  • Oh Chris, I really could do with your help. I'm looking at using ESP32 with WLED as a LED controller for my mobile DJ setup. I'm creating a matrix of 7 x 8 x 32 panels. I'm just experimenting with 1 at the moment to ensure all works before a start on assembling the large setup. I have many problems with the sound reactive side of the WLED setup. I have a digital INMP441 mic connected correctly to my ESP32. I have squelch 10, gain 40 and AGC Normal. I have frequency scale set to Square Root (Energy). On GEQ in WLED I get a random light show in the bottom right hand corner of my matrix. I have tried different squelch and gain settings and I can't remove this. Any idea what I can do? I also have noted the bars are in pairs of LEDs, where in your video above, at 3:39 point, I see you have 1 LED per bar sensed. I am now a little lost. Any help here, much appreciated. But how about one of your wonderful videos entirely dedicated to sound reactive on ESP32 explaining all the settings. I'm really struggling. Many thanks. Love your work.

  • In your last example, you set your power limit to 7000mA. However, WLED is only aware of 1/3rd of your LEDs since you have 3 times 120 LEDs! This means that the brightness limiter is no longer doing it's job properly and you could overload your circuit.

  • Hey there! So I just got one of the sound reactive boards for a project. Got it up and running, played around with it for about an hour and then uplugged it from power. Went back to it and went to plug it back in and now it its having problems. Initial problem was that it would turn on the leds but not react to the microphone but now nothing turns on other than LED1 on the board. Im also not hearing the relay click when it turns on. I'm suspecting i blew something, but wanted to know your thoughts if you have done any troubleshooting with these in your experience?

However, while the lights light up, my microphone does not work and any sound reactive patterns just operate like they were normal light patterns. • Hey Chris - amazing video as always. Just 1 question, I want to make my cousin a portable DJ booth he can bring to his gigs. I already have the LEDs, maybe too many 😂😂 (NEVER) what I wanna ask you is: Since hes going to be DJing parties and shit, the music is going to be really loud. How would I use the sound react for the LEDs on his DJ booth if the sound is going to be extremely loud? I dont think the mic would do well in that environment. Is there an option somewhere where we can use an AUX cord and have the music go through a controller and the monitors at the same time? So its picking up the sound waves through the wire or cable instead of the huge, loud monitors? Thanks dude! Keep inspiring me 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 - Ed

However I don’t think they installed the “sound reactive” WLED software when they installed WLED. I don’t have the sound preference in the config options. Is there anyway to re-install the sound activation mode without connecting it to my computer?

  • Okay, Chris, great little video. Question though... do you feel it's worth the money considering how cheap it is to use a regular ESP32 with an I2S digital mike? admittedly I know it takes a bit more time to faff with but, is it worth the cost saving going that route? I recently started exploring WLED on my channel. Your videos have given me some inspiration so thank you for that, and keep up the great work!
