Spring carp fishing this year hasn't really been spring carp fishing. Unusually cold weather, and my insistence on targeting big fish resulted in me finally landing my first carp of the year on May 4th. Thanks for watching.

Absolutely love your videos man. As basic as carp fishing gets .. respect from Manchester uk
Glad you enjoy the videos, and thanks for the kind words.
Way to persevere through to the large first fish you wanted! Nice to know we're not the only ones who blank!
I still don't know why I insisted on my first fish of the year being a big fish. It was a fun challenge, though. Thanks Joe.
Great vid! Just to touch on that (DON'T FEED THE FISH!) crap. I used to trap muskrats in Ohio creeks in the 70s and if corn kills that whole area would of been dead long ago! Muskrats would raid corn fields every year and when I walked in the creek setting traps I would come across mud bottom areas and the muskrats will take while ears of corn (by the bushel) and shove the ends into the mud for when the creek froze over so that they would have a ready source of food. One time I took several bushel baskets down there and quickly filled them all and my dad drove down later with me and picked them up to feed his hogs and there was a hell of a lot more where that came from. I didn't want to take all of it because I made plenty of their hides and we also ate them. They are actually delicious! Better than squirrel and I really like them as well.
Agreed, feed corn doesn't harm the fish. Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed the video. Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really enjoyed that video Tom. I appreciate the time and dedication you put into all your videos. Key thing i took from this video was that you have to be patient and persistent . Congrats on That beautiful 20 lb common carp
Thanks, Thomas. You're right, persistence is definitely one of the keys to success.
Great video, again. It's been cold here also in nw indiana. Haven't caught any big girls yet. But Saturday got my 4th ever mirror. Almost all of the carp caught so far this season have taken Tuitti Fruitty flavored Kix. Keep up the great work. 👏
Thanks Jim, congrats on the mirror!
Better late than never! Persistence was rewarded, not a bad first carp at all
Better late than never indeed!
wow... what an adventure. couple of things I noted. I used to mix my packbait in a bucket until I saw you doing it in a BAG. No mess to clean up is a huge bonus. Enjoy the videos. Glad I am not the only one not getting carp yet. Good stuff T. Fish on!
Right on, thanks Vance!
Great story
Glad you enjoyed it!
Finally, been waiting for your carp video for a long time. Welcome back buddy!
Thanks!
Well the seasons are not a problem in Southern California. Finding an unpressured spot is a challenge. Of course the state also imposes a handicap by preventing chumming; and in some cases organizing carp kills to thin the population. Told you before how much I enjoy your videos, Tom, and for a novice carper they are very instructive. My wife is getting tired of the skunk smell on my clothes, and the bait making efforts in her kitchen. But always hopeful. Now that summer has arrived in your neck of the woods, I am sure the fishing will be great.
Thanks Bob, good luck out there!
💯 on the loss of Spring!! Southern and Central Iowa have been no better this year! Carp are just starting to wake up. Nearly a full month behind where they were last year!
Maybe mother nature can make up for it on the back end and give us an unusually warm November. 😀
Glad you did not give in to the dark side and the fourth was finally with you. Good job Padawan.
Lol, thanks!
Well done Tom. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Tim!
Here in the lower midwest, summer and winter decided to take alternate weeks in April and May.
Hopefully spring will be back next year! 😁
@@OutsidewithTom And hopefully it happens on a weekend
@@fishlux Haha!
Another good video and a great first fish of the season. I feel your pain only caught two so far this year, been cold here also for a Calif. spring. I love the added skunk feature . 👍👍👍
Thanks David!
Tom, close counts in horseshoes, hand grenades and fishing, especially fishing. Oh, by the way NICE carp. Too darn bad you had to wait for summer to arrive to catch it. I guess that's what happens with three season fishing, right?
You got that right! 😀
Tom, I'm trying the spicey stuff on the hook bait, chick peas, so far it worked well. Going to stick with it.
Glad to hear it! 👍
Hey Tom moving to the Chicago area in May from the UK , would love some info on any carp lakes you may know of that i can attempt some carp fishing on , I'm planning a week down at Dale hollow TN in August/September , bringing my Euro carp gear with me of course ..😜..
Sorry, I don't have any useful info about fishing the Chicago area, it's a long way away from me. I do know that they have a rather large lake nearby.😁 Good luck with the move!
Idk about KILLING carp, but I know for a fact that un boiled or hard maize and corn can have a hard time going through a Carps digestive system. Ask any UK carp fisherman and they might tell you more. I don’t know much about it. I definitely don’t think your killing carp though, especially with that small amount. Nice carp you caught, I’m enjoying these videos!🎣👍
It's a myth, man.
Dont rate those spods they either open up mid flight spraying bait everywhere or don't open at all most of the time they work though. Always preferred the open top bait droppers just plug the top with pva nuggets and wait for it to melt when it's been cast out
I agree, the open top versions perform more reliably.
Those the sharky 3s?
Yep, full gear list in the description.
Those people talking about how much unboiled feed corn is bad are more than likely European and baby there fish. I have seen carp eat craw fish and zebra mussels which are far more abrasive than corn
Agreed, thanks for watching!
What length rods is better? 9 or 10 ft both 3lb
I can't answer that for you, Bob. The list of rods that I use is in the video description.
I have caught 4 good Carp this year can’t remember your email or I would send them to you Thanks for the videos good Sir
That's awesome, thanks Johnny!
@@OutsidewithTom Never a problem for you Tom
