    • Sadly we cannot test the helmet out on the road but seeing as Shark is constantly improving after each model they release one can only assume it is improving. In the video we touched on the fact they have taken countermeasures to reduce the wind noise. If it does become an issue there are processes you could take in order to reduce wind noise via wearing a balaclava, getting some auritech earplugs, and helmet skirts that go around the bottom of the helmet for a better seal. I hope this helps! - Tom

  • I just got this helmet recently and so far so good except I’m having trouble installing a cardo unit. I’ve been trying to use the clamp mount and there doesn’t seem to be enough space between the shell and the EPS. Looks like I’m gonna have to use the stick on mount instead but wondering if you have tried mounting and communicator units to this helmet and your thoughts

    • What you've done is the best possible way to mount a coms system to the Shark Skwal i3. I would steer away from trying to clip it in as it will damage the rubber trim at the bottom of the helmet and allow unwanted wind noise into the helmet.

  • Nice review, thanks very much! Doesn't look like it includes a battery pocket at the back which rules out the Sharktooth Prime. So that means I may as well go Cardo which is more expensive and a bit more external but probably gives me better sound and features....

    • If you can get a cardo it's definitely worth its weight in gold. They're on point when it comes to keeping their systems updated and has loads of forward-thinking features for you to play around with.

  • I have the earlier version of this helmet called Shark Skwal 2, it has green lights in the front and back, no breaking light. But a solid green light both in front and back. However a problem I found pretty early on with that helmet was the battery life for the helmets lights, it was maybe only 3 hours of solid light before it ran out of battery and it got worse pretty fast, after 1 year I had to charge the battery to run the lights for only 1 hour =( I wonder if they have improved the battery life/time for this new helmet or if it still is too short.

  • Here are some negative aspects: 1. Polycarbonate is not the lightest nor the most secure and stable material for the shell. It's rather cheap and just good enough for the price. 2. Poor ventilation due to holes that are too small to really create an effective air flow. 3. The electric system has several problems: 3. a. The brake light sensor doesn't seem to work reliably in (softer) real braking conditions. It only works when shaken by hand... 3. b. First of all many helmet batteries are being delivered empty and we all know that this is not a healthy state in which an accumulator should be stored. The battery life is mentioned with 12 hours non stop lighting after a full charge. Other customers have shown that it's actually around 5 hours on a new helmet. In time capacity will decrease and after a few years your're going to be left with 1 to 2 hours probably. This leads to: 3. c. The battery is not easily exchangeable - if at all. This is another shocking example of planned obsolescence. Irreparable products like this should be banned from the market by law. 3. d. There are customers who complain about unstable electric circuits or faulty electronics (e.g. flickering of the front lights when set to continuous shining). 4. The microratchet can be closed the wrong way around. This means you can insert the belt into the buckle upside down and it will just seem to be stuck correctly. But the whole strap will be twisted and in case of an accident it might not be safe or snug enough or it might even hurt you without knowing what went wrong... 5. The D-Skwal 3 model is almost the same helmet without the faulty and unnecessary blinking games and it's around 70 € cheaper. That's why I'm going to try it today in the shop...

  • For me This helmet is great looking and I was about to buy it for its safety, style, stability and unique led lights safety feature... But, when researching for a ECE 22.06 norm helmet to replace my old 22.05 but quiet and super stable at any speed rpha 70 (only 99db at 65mph) it just missed the mark for sound isolation with 101db at 65mpg, subpar ventilation where its +1C inside vs outside whereas with the hjc i71 there's no difference outside vs inside temperature and so its neutral and better ventilated. In this skwal i3 there is also no emergency quick release cheekpads system, its only a polycarbonate shell (aguarbly not the safest material)with 2 shell sizes, That chin curtain is made of such a cheap material and has a very bad ergonomic cut so much so that it violently scratched my face everytime I tried it on, also that ratchet lock strap can be accidentally closed upsidedown making it useless in case of an accident and so for all these reasons my racional mind told me to go with an I71 instead... But, a few more online reviews saying it starts to fly off your head when at 70/80mph + and that under heavy downpours it leaks water through the top of the visor I started gravitating more towards the skwal i3 despite all the above mentioned downsides... Conclusion is that I will endup sticking some motosafe tour earplugs on and buying this one that actually: Is 100gr lighter than the I 71, has a better visor(more detent levels and a small gap detent for city riding or 'city position' and easy open/close action) and an antifog coated sunvisor for those below zero cold UK winter days, has been apparently designed using aerodinamic algorithms and then tested on a windtunel for stability (hence that super cool rear spoiler) and has that additional visibility bonus of the led lights adding a super cool and unique factor... All of this hoping that in 2 or 3 years time it surpasses my disappointing sharp 3 stars rpha 70 and gets 5stars as all ECE 22.06 are rummored to get... Its not perfect no... Far from it... But if my research proves right this may well be one of safest entrylevel helmets on the market for the price! Only surpassed in ventilation and quietness by the spartan rs and the scorpion exo 1400 evo air which have double d ring unpractical closure systems for touring/commuting and no lights... Ride safe, Dr. Marco.
