  • Oh man. I had a lotta respect for LJG before watching this - and an infinite amount after. It’s like the guys (and Jason especially) were trying to go down the list and tick off every single taboo and wildly inappropriate question that every fucking trans person gets asked on a loop: Asking about her genitals, asking about surgery, asking whether it’s just a mental thing, confusing gender and sexuality, FETISHIZING trans women, saying you’re not straight if you’re attracted to them, saying she’s so brave for coming out, asking if she’s always been a girl etc etc. and she fucking took every question on the chin like a mutha fuckin champ and answered with the grace and humility of a saint. She calmly educated when she could and politely deflected inappropriate questions without creating conflict or tension. Incredible, she’s such a power house. I don’t think I could have kept my cool if I were in the same situation and I like to think I’m a pretty laid back guy. Just, A+ Laura. Keep killing it you fucking rockstar you

    • This is one of the best interviews LJG’s ever been involved in, BECAUSE of the people involved and the hard hitting, direct questions asked. She holds her own on the deep diving nature of their questions towards her and melds in seamlessly with the easy going/humour making nature of her and mostly Jason, Jim and Sams existence. This is my favourite LJG interview. Would love to see her and Norton interact more often, or see LJG invited on the “Hawk vs. Wolf” podcast.

    • idk I'm happy for them not knowing all that stuff because the only reason I know it is due to having experienced dysphoria myself. like her, i don't mind answering silly questions if it's a friendly environment and i can tell it's coming from a place of genuine curiosity. as far as the fetishizing stuff, i just see her being treated the way most women get treated. she is so amazing though and i love her so much, equal parts badass and beautiful.

    • I understand what you mean but Jason Ellis is just being himself and Laura jane Grace deals with it like everyone should "he doesn't mean anything by it so don't make an issue of it" attitude, i really didn't understand trans etc but after watching this i can relate to it alot more so the questions were necessary really. Now i've got from this that Laura Jane grace is a women with a man's body, sexuality doesn't come into and neither does the body it's just the identity? I think we need to hear more about it even though i agree that the questions would probably grate at you if that's all you hear and i know this conversation was 4 years ago lol so please forgive me but its ignorance that causes issues

And then I actually watched it and I found that although the first couple minutes are difficult to watch, that they more than make up for it and this is a completely respectful interview. Thank you. This was amazing to hear and watch.

  • Wow. That was an amazing discussion. I am somewhat new to Against Me. I knew of Laura's blossoming, but haven't watched any interviews, prior to this. Her energy was very even and she answered all the questions with great comfort. I think these kinds of discussions need to keep on happening. People are understandably ignorant and need to be educated. Watching this gave me a great respect for her.

  • A lot of people are saying this interview is like- particularly disrespectful and tasteless, but to be honest- it's actually almost the most standard example of the experience of talking about being transgender with cis people. The guys aren't being intentionally nasty, they are just kinda ignorant. I'm not saying it's not disrespectful, at times it definitely is, but even 6 years later, this is still just what you get if you are transgender. Laura deals with it with a lot of, heh, "grace" and I think she comes off super well. Like, in basically any other context if you meet a girl, and within minutes you are asking questions about her breasts and genitals, that's called sexual harassment- but it's just standard fair for girls like us. It sucks and it's super tiring. You get asked the same round of invasive questions near constantly, have weird assumptions made about your sex life, and get objectified in a uniquely gross way- and if you ever lose your temper over it, everyone rolls their eyes at the hysterical overly sensitive tr*nny. The one plus side to the questions being so predictable is it's easy to rehearse humorous responses and deflections that make the person asking look stupid and less likely to continue pressing the issue.

Because based on this interview and a basic understanding (or just looking at pictures) of metal heads and punk fans that they can be the most inclusive people.

    @pieshka4509@pieshka45097 жыл бұрын
    • Yeah it's all bullshit, just like feminists infecting atheism, just like feminists infecting video games, there was never a real problem to begin with. If something like 5% of the total general population really DO have a serious problem with gay/trans/etc. people, then that same 5% or most likely BELOW are going to have the same problems with gay/trans/etc. people in communities like metal and punk scenes. Metalheads in 2016 are more likely to beat you up for being racist/homophobic than to be racist/homophobic themselves, the feminist outcry is delusional and creates more social tension than there was before.

    • The only thing they end up doing is make people annoyed with the women and gay/trans/etc people in the in those fandoms because they expect them to start picking up the rhetoric which sadly some often do (I can't stand talking to a lot of gay men anymore because lgbt spaces are nonstop feminist bullshit and they're starting to go after gay men) but there is also the influx of fake fans that just want to find the misogyny and so on so they can be victims. All the shit with Magic the Gathering lately is a fine example, the community was fine and there was a female base but it wasn't big so they suddenly decided to attract more females and in the process also went full feminist and screamed misogyny at everything. But sometimes their rhetoric and behavior do create the misogynists they claimed were already there because they brow beat them so much they finally say fuck you, like those mgtow guys. Some mgtow guys just want nothing to do with women anymore, but some turned into literal misogynists.

      @pieshka4509@pieshka45097 жыл бұрын
    • I totally agree. The far-left are making things worse for LGBT people while a guy like Milo Yiannopoulos, who is a total shit-heel and half of what he says crumbles under the slightest examination, gets a room full of supposedly homophobic conservatives accepting him with open arms. People like Milo and Blaire White are doing more for gay and trans acceptance than every far-left shithead combined.

    • I kind of like Milo just because he reminds me of the way that type of gay men used to act, bitchy, hilarious, and not caring who got upset while doing it. There are some things i disagree with that I've heard him say on podcasts but I honestly feel he is speaking more truth than most, it's just wrapped up in that 80's-90's bitchy bottom attitude that can piss people off. But I definantly have noticed I've been agreeing more and more with people on the right just because of how ridiculous the for left has been and the past election shows I'm not the only one. Theryn Meyer is another person doing more for gay and trans acceptance, she appeared on a TV panel debate with Peterson and those two did a 45 min discussion about actual gender disphoria to all the nonbinary astrolgender bs and pronouns related to that.

    • I like Milo, but his opinions (or the opinions he pretends to have) are often garbage. Similar to Gavin McInnes. And yet they're entertaining as fuck, I'd love to sit down for a drink with either of them and wouldn't piss it out on the far-left if it was on fire.

  • Besides the handful of inevitable pricks you get in every single walk of life the punk rock world would 100% not have cared about somebody coming out as "trans" or not, and would not look at that person differently either way. I know somebody who transitioned from guy to girl and to be perfectly honest nobody even mentions it unless the conversation is specifically about that subject. To me they are the exact same person they have always been in every single way besides looks. Sometimes I feel that people need to feel different or special in some way and hate it when others just accept them and don't make an issue out of a choice or a decision they made in life. Punk rock is made up of people who find it hard fitting in with "regular people". There are people claiming to be punk who are more judgmental than anybody on earth but for the most part and at the very core of punk we don't care and we accept everybody for who and what they are.

    • Tera Firma it's a little more complex than that. Some of us consider transition complete once we're living fulltime and have our identity documents changed over. Others won't consider that until final surgery is finished. But in a way, the body is always changing so in some ways, it's never complete.

    • @@ImVeryOriginal how does a he or she know that they are not the correct sex? How can one be positive that they were born the wrong sex and that they are a lesbian or gay? Why not just stay the same sex you were born and date the opposite sex like everyone else in the world? I do understand how most people are lost on this and many other issues. It's been a long very very slow process to twist the world inside out to wear a person thinks they were born as a transgender gay guy or woman and it be accepted and applauded . they don't show the regret that comes years later as often as they should but I'm sure it's no big deal to just switch back to the sex you were born. I mean hey, maybe we switch back and forth between Sexes right? anything's possible when Hollywood is leading the charge ! To answer your question, I don't think we are smart enough as humans, especially as a teenager, to identify ourselves as transgendered and gay. that is very close to being straight and staying in the body one was born in.. it's all spiritual at the end of the day

    • Do you believe in laws of nature? Or that we have some kind of natural Balance to this world? If not, then anything goes. But if you do, you would notice the incredible amount self evaluation and pinpoint accuracy needed to tell yourself that you are the opposite sex and gay. And to be a teenager making all these decisions. Would you find it odd for two men that were born as men to have sex changes to become lesbian women? It just doesn't make sense. I'm sure your goat Lucy can convince you but not me

    • @@joeturner9280 I can't understand what the fuck are you babbling about, sorry.

      @ImVeryOriginal@ImVeryOriginal4 жыл бұрын
    • It's not rocket science: you are consistently attracted to the same gender instead of the opposite, you're gay or at least not entirely straight. You consistently feel like there's something wrong with your body and you wish you were the opposite gender, you are transgender. Read up on David Reimer, his life story is proof that human beings have an innate sense of gender regardless of what they're told or what their body looks like. Sometimes this sense of self doesn't align with the body they have, and that's how you get gender dysphoria. This has nothing to do with Hollywood, many cultures throughout history knew about transgender people and some recognized them as members of a third or fourth gender (Fa'afafine, Two-Spirit, Hijra, Khatoey, etc.), it's as old as humanity itself.
