U should save those Persimmon trees that makes a nice number
Hi.... Josh nice to see you love watching your videos, thank you for showing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🏡🎥👍👍👍
So glad you were wearing protective gear and being careful
Bummer about losing the trees... Chainsaw made easy work for it.. Have a good evening 🌱🌱🌱
Been watching for years.Thank you for being pos person.I hope your water pump system is still going strong and your Family is well and happy.God bless you bro.
Cherry smells good and makes great chips for the smoker
Excited to see the shop build videos. Been following your channel for years!
Had no idea you were 6’5”! I am going to fell some trees soon so appreciate this good video!
That's a days work right there! That saw suits you Josh. Big tools for big jobs! Wooooo!
Thank you, for sharing.
We took out about 8 trees around our shop so we could get all of the trucks, trailers, and equipment parked for the lawn care business and to protect the new roof we were about to put on the shop. That was last year. Already looking to take out more trees and do a lot of leveling/grading with the Ventrac so we can add a newer equipment shop. I really didn't want to take those trees down, but we had to in order to protect our investments and make room for everything. Enjoyed the video from here in MOWSSOURI!
yeppers...I'm dropping more once I get these cleaned up! What a job!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer we had a bonfire for days just from the small brush! Can’t wait to see how everything turns out for you!
Maple is a beautiful wood. May custom cabinet shops and funiture shops use maple in their products. In Southeast Missouri, I personally know a cabinet maker who uses a lot of maple.
Great video Josh 🇺🇲 WOOOOOO 🇺🇲
Awesome video josh looks like you've got your work cut out for ya on the mega shop but all things in due time you'll get there brother and all of us watching will be here for support and prayers for the farm and you. Keep up the great work bud.
good video josh. cant wait for the mega shop series coming up.
Yes sir I’m buying this 😎
That chainsaw makes short work of these trees. Good job 👍
Give Victory Outdoor Services a shout about the concrete work. He’s going around the country pouring concrete and will do your job for a video if you buy the materials. It can’t hurt to message him and see what he says.
lol...this concrete job has $40k worth of metal in it....not something I'd hire just anybody to do
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer he’s been in business for 20 yrs. He does excellent work but Wisconsin is frozen so he’s going to other areas for video. I understand your point though. Just throwing it out there.
thanks for sharing
Buddy you need a mini excavator more than anyone I've ever seen. Taking down trees, putting stuff on and off the sawmill, making drainage ditches...you definitely have use for one.
Would that be a higher priority than a skid steer for a 1st time machine purchase. It seems to me to do the same and more but pushing bigger piles of dirt around
Not at all. I’ve got 2 back hoes, lots of folks suggesting a mini ex…. I’d be digging for 2 days. We bringing in big equipment
I own a 661 and it’s a beautiful saw. I’m only 5’7” but I have cut a lot trees so I’m used to it. I do feel your pain, that is a lot of cutting.
A long rope tied to the widow maker may allow you to haul it out safely with the tractor. Better safe than sorry. I've had the chain slip off the bar and been saved by long sleeve shirt and gloves
You sir have a healthy addiction 🇺🇲💯🤠
Those bloopers cracked me up😂😂
Hi Josh get a bark box from West coast saw it increases the horse power.
Josh, hopefully you give yourself room to be able to drive behind the shop building. You'll not want things growing against the back also. By extending the slab past the back of the building to accommodate a roadway will save you on yard maintenance back there for many, many years to come. Have a great day 😊.
yeppers...much more gonna go on after I catch my tail financially brotha....this is a huge expense on my end...HUGE!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer lotta expenses goes into starting a farm for sure. Always running, but always running behind 🙃 Take care guys have a great day. Ps. Josh: wild cherry is very good firewood in my opinion if you can't fit it on your mill
Josh, feel your pain with the concrete cost. We just built a house on a ridge. The last retaining wall we put in, about 50'x6', cost $10K. Then we had to wait for the concrete to be available. Supply Chain issues are real. Best of luck with your build.
Howdy! It is always impressive how much chaos there is with downed trees and how nibbling off the limbs turns it to some semblance of order. And once the limbs are off is where I see a grapple paying for itself. Forks on the Gehl will probably do pretty well, but anything is better than picking all that up by hand! You’ve been hitting the gym pretty effectively - you handled the MS661 all day!
Just laid 5 yards of concrete here in Arizona a couple weeks ago and cement alone was a $1000.00 and it went up another $25.00 a yard two days later! Stuff is going up! Great video!!
ouch...expensive....so...over $40k in steel in this concrete pad!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I bet! Steel is through the roof as well!
A tree guy told me many years ago. Don't let the cows near cherry chips. Chip it separately and get rid of it.
Nice
You might want to think about putting a lean-to down one side of your building. My brother talk me into doing that when I built my shop and it was probably some of the best advice I've ever had. I use it to store a lot of my equipment under plus a lot of other stuff. And this is all stuff that would be inside my shop taking up room if I didn't have this lean-to.
Oh...I"ve got some plans my friend...most likely won't be a lean too but will be an extension of the shop
Cool lumber get cheap latex and paint ends of logs so they while drying won't check so much. Most importantly do a diagonal on length & width keep fudging those stakes until the length is same across the mid then when exact width length and diagonal you have a perfectly square 90° corners on your rectangle, when that's an issue it may not be important initially. Good on you good progress. Take care David
A Barndominium maybe??
Always enjoy your content, very informative, you also have fun, nice Toyota pickup.
RED YOTA!!! WOOOOO!!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I need to get that right RED YOTA!
Loads of future content
We use 24” bar Echo saws. Never looked back!
Building a proper shed for your equipment before building a new house means priorities have been correctly set. So busy with all of the different jobs. Farms are places for relaxation too.
Shop...earns money....house....eats money. Gotta get debt free!! That's the goal!
Maybe try to set up self contained accomodation at the new workshop. I think it was mentioned in the video. The accomodation could be used by guests in the future.
yes it is a shame that the trees have to go, however it is for a good reason and there are plenty more beautiful trees around the farm still standing
That Sthil ain’t no joke. Josh dropping trees faster than i can fill mine with gas
dude! It kicked butt didnt' it!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer ain’t gonna lie i had to look close to make sure it wasn’t sped up lol
Wooooooo!
Josh I have a 661 the powerhead alone without the bar and chain is close to 17#s it is a beast.
Don't think of it as loosing trees, but gaining Firewood (after chopping & seasoning) for the Homestead! And maybe sell some for Meat Smoking... It's all about the possitive gains.
In my younger days I was logging on a piece pay. It's estimated I burned 6000 cal per day, ie a good marathon every day, 5 days a week. Though the temp some days dropped to 30 below I also had a sweaty booty.
INSULATE THE FLOOR AND CONSIDER ADDING PEX TUBING IN AREAS LIKE THE WORKSHOP AND OFFICE FOR WARMTH
AND ORIENT THE BUILDING FOR SOLAR PANELS SO THEY CAN FUTURE POWER THE SHOP AND HOUSE
Just an FYI, your V6 in the yoda has a timing belt. You might want to check out it’s condition, should be replaced if it has any cracks in it. If it skips a single tooth, it will bend valves
yeppers....it's been rebuild about 10k miles ago...but good Idea for sure!
Replace timing belt every 100K miles , I neglected to replace mine at 200K , it snapped at 265K and was dead on side of highway . Luckily it did not bend any valves so cheaper and easier to repair . I feel your pain on building , had a 26' X 50' shop built last year , original estimate was $25K , final cost $40K , 3 months later due to cost increase in concrete , lumber , and sheet metal . 😥 Saddened to hear the persimmon trees have to go , I pick persimmons on my property each year for cookies and breads . Wishing you the best in all your doing ! 👍🏻
Never run behind a falling tree!! If it kicked back you would've been hit and possibly hurt or killed. Best direction to run is in a 45° away from the side/rear of your tree. I've picked up people who've been hit by a falling tree, it's never pretty.
lol...my friend....for sure
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer hey buddy, only reason I posted it that was because you crossed over the back of the first tree you cut down, twice. Would hate to see a fellow veteran and healthcare provider get squashed by a tree. Enjoy your videos buddy. It's nice to see another guy doing a lot of the same things i do up here on Hazy Days Farm in Pa.
On my property all my trees are coming down but my northern red Oaks I planted. All my trees are hedge, locust and cotton wood. One cotton wood stays. It's the nicest tree on the property. But ruff on the pool filter and ac unit.
Looks like a great place to raise about 30 pigs.
That cherry tree will live on for years on your grill and smoker. Sad, yes, but not a total loss. Silver linings
Josh, why not change the location on the mega shop instead of cutting the trees and moving the tractor shed? For instance, put it where the container is sitting. Less gutter cleaning and less chance of tree damage!
because that's not where I want it brotha....trust me...I've thought this through for several years. It may look level back there...but it's not my friend
Hardhat and face mask is a must, even when bucking up the tops on the ground. You'd be amazed at how much pressure a 1 1/2-2" limb can have when it's bound up in the ground. It's almost enough to do a full scalp when it fly back and hits you in the head. That wasn't a very good day playing with chainsaws.
I'd say you need to think about getting a wood chipper.
Don’t you just hate that, when a tree hangs up?
The Husky 572 XP is a nice saw. I almost bought one but bought a 395 XP with a 36" bar and chain. The 395 to me is much better in the bigger wood. Stihl MS 661 is good so it's all about personal preferences. Your a Guy with too many toys lol
Wow I love it
How do you like that Tym? I’m considering picking up a Tym t474 myself
love it so far!
My nephew and his older girls went last weekend to "help" process a cow. Jason hadn't helped butcher anything bigger than a squirrel or a rabbit. I haven't heard how it went, but I am sure it opened a few eyes as to what all goes into it. Josh, save some of those trees for lumber. Cherry, maple and persimmon are beautiful when finished out. Depending on how big that hanger is, wrap a chain around the trunk and use the Gehl to pull it. A lot safer than bumping it with the forks.
I wouldn't take on a whole cow if it were me.....it's just too much work..plus cow should hang in cooler for around 18-21 days to age
Be careful with the poison ivy vines. The sap causes intense reactions.
amen! Feeling it today too!
Yes chip the tops
shew...been a week and I've been up there chipping...my butt is tired!
Hate it when the trees hang up, widow maker. Lately get away, pull them with tractor and long chains.
Please check out Hemp Lego like 25# building blocks to build the cooler and future buther shop. Stronger than Concrete, R70, fire proof, sound proof. Self leveling. Exploring Alternatives on utube to check them out. Keep the firewood for shop boiler to heat with and or let an intern make some cash.
No interns here brotha...just me. I've already purchased the building...steel...permanent structure...be advised what you see on youtube is often a total crock that will end up in the landfill in 5 years....like most "tiny houses"
Hey Josh thank you for the video I enjoyed it and old boy that is for surely a lot of money for concrete just making me think ahead of time for myself for when that time comes for me to do my foundation for my log cabin old boyif the concrete is that expensive now I can imagine what it's going to be like when that time comes for me hoboy ☹️😭
👍
I always had to work for "free" firewood that I obtained. Is your neighbor able to help?
I'm sure he could help......but we've worked out a little trade for a greenhouse frame
Little yota done replaced the kubota ain’t it lol
just about!
Would cutting the trees off lower on the stumps.... allow you more useable lumber for the logs that you're planning on milling? $78,000 for how many yards of concrete? 90-ish yards? That seem like a really steep price. Did you get more than 1 estimate?
Got several estimates...all of which were around the same price. Cutting them off lower might give me a little more lumber...but cost me in the long run as we plug up the stumps
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Thanks, good to hear you got several estimates. I guess that is just the going rate nowadays. We did some concrete work about 10 years ago... so I guess my prices are a little dated (plus they are "pre-Covid" 🤔)
Hello
Just for what it's worth. The bacteria and fungi that break down wood are tremendous nitrogen users. Wood chips should be composted for at least one year before being added to soil. Once the bacteria and fungi break down the wood chips they will go into the soil and use up the available nitrogen depleting the soil.
yep...or use for bedding around the raised beds....or around high traffic areas where the cows walk...help control mud...or maybe make more mud lol
Hello Ukraine ms Stihl👍👍👍
The car ports would do as cattle sheds in bad weather
This isn’t a Disney farm…. The cows don’t have a house my friend. They live in the pasture
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer i find the words disney farm insulting to irish and british farmers our animals are housed from october to march as it protects both animals and the land both irish and british farmers have invested heavy in state of the art buildings for this and theres nothing disney about it
Working alone is a risk. And using the end of the saw is a no no. But looking good pal.
I always keep my phone on me for sure...and when cutting like this have my neighbor close by
All the best. Love the videos. Keep em coming
Josh I’m in guilford county. I’ve got a 9500lbs mini ex. If you Need those stumps removed give me a shout. No charge
well thanks man! I'm already on the schedule for my guy...I've got a couple little projects he'll be working on for me
Guess i spoke too soon about a chipper... you already got one... sorry.
I ran my 660 all day and my arms are sore. What size bar are you running? I've got an Oregon 24" and it's HEAVY for bucking (I knock them down with the mini excavator and then buck the logs. I"m thinking of adding a 391 but boy that 660 power is addicting!
24 inch...and yep...I'm sore lol
If all you're running is a 25" bar there's no need for A660 that saw shines with a 32 or 36" bar on it. If you're running a 25" bar all the time get a 500 or A 462 and love life with the weight saving ! It will cut just as fast with that size bar I do this everyday I know very well. I only break out the 661 when I am in bigwood and I mean 48" or bigger other than that I just cut from both sides with a 500 much easier on the body. Definitely do not get A 391 those things are a pig and way too heavy for the power they put out Plus they are a home owner grade saw
@@bigbluram I meant 362 not 391 but I picked up a 16” 261cm today and I’m pretty pleased with the 15 mins I’ve run it so far. 👍🏻
I just couldn't see any trees big enough to justify a MS666. My MS360 would have taken any of them down. Check my channel for a video of my brother dropping a fire killed red fir 55 inches at the butt with his 46 year old Homelite. The bounce was classic.
You be careful!
I hate to see all those beautiful trees coming down.
Many more on the farm...but I hated to cut the persimmons for sure
Would of been a good excuse to rent a feller buncher. Just sayin
lol...not more money to spend! bhahhahaha!
How many yards of concrete that sounds like a crazy price
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👀👀👀☕️☕️☕️👋👋👋🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
might want to consider contacting HGTV or other network on your build you have the persona to contact the people and this project wood be a good starting point for your farm channel 1st gen fArm
and have a farming boot camp with rustic outdoor living during spring to fall with seminars and how t do
Anybody have any suggestions on a good small saw 16 to 18 inch bar husky or stihl I'm not biased either way thanks in advance

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer From GA but at inlaws in NC last weekend and cut up a blowdown on their property and I missed it and it got me!
Rabbit tates?
probably chip it up and use around water tank areas
Save that cherry tree for when you smoke a hog. No point just burning it and wasting all that flavor.
what size bar is that?
24 inch
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer You are a savage. I have a 36 and a 28. Feel good that small?
If you're gonna run a bar that short on a saw that big do yourself a favor and put a 8 pin rim on it to get your chain speed up ! it will cut so much faster with the biggest rocket
Oh yeah and with that 8 pen room take a stroke or stroke and a 1/2 off of each of your rakers and watch how fast it cuts that big saw has plenty of power to pull the chain a little more aggressive and I hope you're running skip chain full cup takes too long to sharpen
8 pin rim ! Lol spell check
If you think you are a man I have a chainsaw for you . I am 6’4” and I thought I was a man too . This Husky XP-288 will kick a good man’s butt . This is the same saw that the boys from the Loggers Shop used in competition in Logger games . I quit using it years ago and it is just sitting around . The saw is hunting a new home .lol
$78,000! That's ridiculous! With the way things are going (inflation) we are all going to be poor.
Josh, I don't know brain injury, in our weird world makes for better bloopers. I'm weird though as a veteran hospital corpsman I don't laugh when people get hurt, Not Funny to me never been funny. But as stupid should hurt. Save some of that wood for your house stair treads & flooring cabinets door and drawer faces pretty stuff start developing a home wood pile get it covered slow down drying and reduce checking but you've got wood for more than planter boxes dirt retaining what a bank money pile of lowered price pay it forward into your beautiful home you'll build " and All this lumber I cut from right here on Stoney Ridge Farm" farm raised yeah buddy! It's time to stockpile your homes wood for future build also build a walkway cable footbridge over from second floor deck to deer stand platform sweet idea.
be more normal, let the bloopers go just work thru them
be more normal? lol....my friend...sometimes I screw up 3 or 4 times during a take...this is hours of editing...we save out some of the "normal" sillyness that goes on during filming....this is the normal stuff brotha...always something silly going on
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I love the bloopers
If you keep going you'll have no trees. Worse you cut down a big tree that would never fall. Madness.
Tim, You're sitting in a chair made with wood, drinking a cup of coffee that came out of a wooden cabinet in a house that's framed in wood with wood trim....whining about my removal of a few trees.....timber is the most renewable resource on the planet....I don't expect you to understand simply because you think removing 15 trees is gonna deforest the whole farm....not very realistic my friend. When it's your property...then you can decide what's safe to remove and what's not...move out of the city or suburbs and take on a project of this magnitude....you'll understand a little better
