Stephen Chow (director and star of Shaolin Soccer) is at it again with his newest action-packed and comedic martial-arts adventure, KUNG FU HUSTLE. From wildly imaginative kung fu showdowns to dance sequences featuring tuxedoed mobsters, you've never seen action this outrageous and characters this zany! With jaw-dropping fight sequences by Yuen Wo Ping (famed action choreographer of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and The Matrix), KUNG FU HUSTLE will blow you away! In a town ruled by the Axe Gang, Sing (Stephen Chow) desperately wants to become a member. He stumbles into a slum ruled by eccentric landlords who turn out to be kung fu masters in disguise. Sing's actions eventually cause the Axe Gang and the slumlords to engage in an explosive kung fu battle. Only one side will win and only one hero will emerge as the greatest kung fu master of all.

  • This scene gives me goosebumps every time because the rest of the movie is so absurd that this moment of ascension, serenity and humility is a complete surprise (tonally). The visual composition of the palm strikes, the sound and lighting design capture the moment of sing's enlightenment on a deeply emotional and spiritual level. It goes from absurdist comedy to transcendence in a heartbeat, very well done and unexpected ending.

  • In this scene Sing played by Stephen Chow finally let go of all his doubts after floating up in the heavens. He saw a vision of the Buddha in the clouds and like his transformation from a previous scene with the symbolism of the caterpillar turning into a butterfly he once again achieve spiritual transcendence. He was once a criminal loser with no life but after his change he became the hero that he was meant to be and achieve his true potential. Through this process he let go of everything like his doubts, fears, physical weaknesses and went into a praying stance as he falls back down to earth. He's now achieve a new level and this new power enabled him to manifest his will into the Buddhist Palm which is his true power and ascension.
