Real cool and awesome. Rebuilding '98 Troopy with 1HZ engine but want to change to 1HDT. Pics and advise on your 1HDT rebuild would be great.

Hey dude have you gone through a complete rebuild on the 1HDT, if so can you share some info about piston ring gaps and if you went by factory recommendations...
Just now seeing this! Yeah I went by factory specs. My machinist builds race engines and recommended keeping the factory gap. My guess is that low tolerances increase the likelihood for failure. We're talking a turbodiesel engine, so boost and fuel will make way more of a difference in power than ring gap, if thats what you're after.

Thanks! You could do a low-budget rebuild for a few thousand, if you are doing all of the labor and have all of the tools. I didn't record the costs for my build. It wasn't cheap. Ignorance is bliss.
