Rev Up Ur Engines !
You are the best Mr.scotty 😊👍keep it up..
What about 2015 Ford Ecoboost u only said 2018 and up???
What do you think about the chevy ss? Thanks
Scotty Kilmer I have 123000 on my 2014 ecoboost f150 and I absolutely love it. I haven’t had any problems yet but I’m getting worried due to what I see on the internet. My question is are there steps to take to avoid these problems? My truck runs as strong as it did new. I just put an oil catch on it. I change my oils and ignition components when my book suggests. What more can I do?
My mom taught me years ago to never buy the fancy coffee maker. Get the one with less buttons. Less can go wrong. It stuck with me.
Good advice 👍👍👍
Get a percolator with no buttons at all.
We ONLY purchase a Bunn Coffee Maker. No need for a 'Timer' (that can cause a fire) since a Bunn can brew a pot of coffee in 3 minutes. Easy-Peasy!
coffee maker but we talking about cars
I can attest to this. My 08fusion is much more solid than the newer ones which are prone to breaking because of so many accessories and technologies

Well Scotty my mechanic said almost the same thing when I told him I was trading my 2004 Dodge Dakota in 2017 for a new Ford F-150 with the 2.7 ecoboost. I liked it so much I just traded it for a 2020 model with a few more bells & whistles. It's been so reliable I haven't been back to my dealer let alone my mechanic!

I guess I’ll just keep driving my 1972 Ford Maverick. It’s got a straight six cylinder engine and a three on the tree standard transmission and still going strong with 680,000 miles on it.

I sold my 2014 Silverado with the 5.3 and got a 2018 F-150 with the 2.7 Ecoboost and love it. I think the Ecoboost engines have come along way since they were introduced in 2012.
I traded my 2015 Silverado 5.3 for a 2018 F150 2.7 ecoboost. AFter the silverado was on it's second set of lifters and third set of injectors. Theres no comparison. The 2.7 is smoother, quieter, and has more power than the 5.3 AFM chevy ever did.
Love mine 2.7 eco
I have an 2011 f150 with the 3.5 ecoboost and it now has 370,000 miles on it with few issues. The biggest thing you need to remember on this engine is you have to use a very good synthetic oil and filter otherwise they’re problematic. I use Amsoil signature series oil with their 25,000 mile oil filter and I change it every 12,000 miles. I have zero oil consumption, zero timing issues and I still average 17 mpg and it sees 95/100 mph on a weekly basis.
I wouldn't recommend such long intervals between oil changes. Condensation will get in there, as will combustion products, and no oil can magically remove contaminants. I change no less than every 6 months (especially in the spring since winter is when things get lots of condensation), or 4k-6k miles, whichever comes first.
@@brucejohnson1264 I do 12,000 mile intervals with the Amsoil products only
@@brucejohnson1264 I was skeptical about Amsoil at first but after 6 years of using their products I won’t use anything else
12,000?! Amsoil or otherwise you’re lucky to have reached 200k without major work. I’ve done a 2,000 mile oil change on the 3.5 and the oil is already DARK. Like any turbo motor these are not long interval engines. They’re very powerful and long lasting but they are not tolerant of long oil change intervals. If it were me I’d spend half the money on the oil and change it twice as often, and with an OEM filter

It is very nice of Scotty to answer the thumbnail question in the first minute of his videos and in this case, the first ten seconds. What a lad.
My ecoboost 2016 3.5 has been tuned since 12k miles. Ran hard, towing across country many trips, maintains and still runs great at 167k miles of long hauls. My Chevy 5.3 didn’t make it that long with a trans rebuild, some electrical issues, a fuel pump and two alternators. Way more power, way more. Better driving and running vehicle with zero mechanical issues aside from a bad sensor which was simple to replace. I’ll stick with my ecoboost.
Not sure you can compare a Chevy with a Ford. You'd have to go Ford vs Ford I think. I'm looking at the 2.7 btw. I'm not sure if I would need more than 400 lb/ft torque. Good to know you can haul. That's my concern that it will give way after hauling for a while.
@@rotatopoti Nope not unless you exceed your towing capacities.
We jumped, drifted, did burnouts, in a bunch of 3.5 ecoboost F150 that were getting abandoned in Iraq (we had to go around the FOB and pick up all the suburban 2500s and F150s and park them in a field with the keys in the ignition) in 130 degree heat, during a dust storm. The trucks took it like a champ. Also I learned a regular F150 3.5TT can jump like a raptor, just don't expect the landing to be comforable, still more comfortable than a HMMWV though.

For some reason I love my 2016 Expedition with the 3.5 ecoboost , now mpg could be better but low end torque and plenty of power makes for a relaxing drive with no big shift backs and high rpm to anything needed. I love the ecoboost at 70,000 miles it runs great
I have a 2017 Expedition with the same engine. I get about 20mpg highway which is a lot better than my old V8 Expedition and haven't had any real issues except for a faulty PCV valve. 120K on it thus far. Hopefully Scotty is wrong about this one.

I always listen to Scotty. He makes sense. I personally prefer to have something that is proven and tested. Hard earned money needs to be spent safely. I go with a V8.
I've had my second gen 2.7 Ecoboost f150 for 4 years and the only problem I had was the EGR cooler tube filling with soot (normal for turbo vehicles) and when the dealership forgot to put enough oil into the engine..ZERO issues otherwise. Maintain them. drive them hard now and then and you won't have problems. Trucks are meant to pull, if you do that, they will last a lot longer than you think.
2010 F 150 just turned 200,000 miles with 5.4 liter V8. hasn't missed a beat.
its not if it takes a crap... its when.

Buddy who had it before me even went 100,000 miles without changing the oil before I bought it (no joke, for real it was a serious beater). When I bought it admitedly it was feeling weak but the fact I knew the owner and he was totally honest with me about his lack of maintenance I changed the oil/sludge out expecting I would soon need to swap the engine out but for 800 bucks to buy the super cab running truck I didn't care and guess what? A good flush and some fresh oil and she came right back to life running as strong as ever. That was over 100,000 miles ago now and she still running strong just hit over 450,000 miles.
@@thedon3836 hes talking about eco boost not ur v8 noob
I’ve got both the ecoboost 2.3 and the 5.0 and have had no issues with either in the last four years. It is my personal belief that people need to be educated about the vehicle they purchase to get the best use and most enjoyment out of it. I might not agree with your thoughts on the ecoboost system, but I do thank you for your continued efforts to help the consumers
Agree with you!
It’s not a feeling. It’s well documented
The 2.3 didn't have the coolant intrusion issues like the smaller ecoboost engines (corrected on those in late 2019)....but there is some oil dilution of gas on the 2.3...the 5.0's as always (for most part) are bullet proof long lasting.

That's alot of driving on a 2012. Probably mostly highway and that's easiest on the car.

The 3.5 Ecoboost has so much power it’s hard to not love it if you own one.
You must have Platinum horseshoes up your butt. I've seen dozens with less than 50000 MI blown into multiple pieces and these vehicles weren't used for work or abused. And I've seen dealers refuse to honor the warranties. Offer owner very little for the truck or ask thousands upon thousands of dollars to replace the engine.
What a great description of the technology of these engines and why to wait and see...That's not just a lesson on automotive mechanics but a lesson in LIFE...

Did you happen to change your oil at the factory recommended 7k miles? That number imo is a horrible judgment call from ford. With any sort of forced induction, oil changes should be performed every 2500 or 3k at the most. It's a lot, but it's the reality of the heat cycle from a turbo motor. @@WizzRacing and as usual I didn't articulate correctly! I know the coyotes are aluminum with some super-complex spray-on cylinder liner .That's all, thank you for the reply. ;-)
Scotty scotty scotty. I hear McDonald's is hiring
I LOVE the fact that you’re “not that kind of guy!”Keep up the honest hard work!
I do love my 5.0 V8 and, based on some fairly intensive shopping around, it saved me around 3 grand off the purchase price (used)
Scotty, I have a 2015 F150 ecoboost 3.5. She has just over 64k miles. Knock on wood, I haven’t had a single problem in the 5 years of ownership! At around 60 thousand miles I installed a UPR catch can to collect any more gunk from building on the valves. I’m hoping this extends the life of my motor because I’m planning on owning her until she practically gives up! I will keep you updated along the way
How is the truck holding up?
@@mannyyocupicio556🤔 dude didn’t respond. Maybe dr. Fauci got him. That stinks. I just traded my 220,000 mile ‘15 3.5. Minor seepage on timing case and needs drivers side manifold job. Still a strong and very reliable truck. I simply decided to get a new one. Dragging a boat 3-400 miles with a new 2023 will be less nerve wracking. I know first hand what it feels like to have a throttle body give out on Jelico mountain. While you sit there in the emergency lane the tractor trailers rock your whole rig back and forth as they pass. It’s not a comfortable feeling knowing you could get smashed to pieces every 3 seconds. Thanks for the video again. I have a small business and have a F150 16' 3.3L v6 and hile its been reliable its disappointing on MPG, maybe too much weight for the v6. ITs time for another new truck and I really like the ecoboost but for a work truck and small business, I will leaning towards the 5.0 Coyote v8 for long term consistent v8 power and less parts to go wrong one day eventually with about 150-200k miles later.
So many minutes of my life I can’t get back because of this!
1.0 ecoboost on a Fiesta 2014, 244.000 Km, still works :)

Good video, but I’ve had a great run with my eco boost, in fact we now have 3 cars with the eco boost in our driveway right now
Dumb old man argument. Have had a 3.5 ecoboost for 6years. Towed over 9k trailer from FL to IL no problems and then a 7k trailer (downgraded) for 6months as I traveled across the US. It’s got 100k miles tons of power zero problems. Better gas mileage and more power than a V8.
I'm happy with mine. 21 mpg overall. 36 gal tank = 700+ range. No issues. Mega power on demand. Change the oil every 5k and don't tune it. It will last. Time will tell.
How many miles you got on it?

I’ve had 2 eco boost V6 f150 and by far they have been my favorite engine. Haven’t had a problem yet
I’ve seen other videos Scotty of high mileage eco boost F150s. No issues beyond regular maintenance. 8 cylinder engines are going the way of the dinosaurs whether they work well or not. Get em while you can.
Carlo Santin yeah, he’s full of it. 160k on our eco boost and going strong. Did replace the timing chain due to stretch and water pump, but otherwise working great.
I have the 2011 first year of the ecoboost with no issues at all. I drilled the big inner cooler and tapped it so as to drain any condensation if it does try to build up! Ford recalled them to put smaller cooler on it but I like the big one with lots of cool charge air :) and it pulls anything I need it to pull no problem.
When I graduate and get a job I plan on getting an ecoboost. Heard mostly good things, except from the purists.
I bought a used 2015 F150 XLT crew cab in 2019. Has the 2.7L engine. It starts up all the time, is a great highway cruiser and has plenty of power when the turbos kick in. Mileage is at 53K right now. My wife and I both love the truck. I noticed you didn't mention anything about the "catch cans" that catch the raw oil/gas stuff before entering the turbos. A friend swears by his.
Hey Scotty I agree with your reviews , but mostly tune in because I feel like I get a little 'workout,' watching that rock 'back and forth' thing you got going! Keep up the good work! CCC Austin, TX

I get the feeling that Scotty retired 20 years ago and isn't very familiar with modern vehicles. The ecoboost engines are getting over 150,000 miles with many F-150s getting over 250K miles.
The main problem guys like scotty have with them is they are too complicated for the average guy to work on. These guys grew up working on Chevy 350s and they appreciate push rod design for simplicity and ease of maintenance. Plus there are just as many folks out there with 60k on a EcoBoost needing valvetrain repair as there are ones with 150k
Agreed, personally I’m a v8 guy but bought an eco boost a few years ago and am amazed that the power difference isn’t much different and the gas I save is rather decent. Some guy told me the same thing as Scotty. Sorry Scotty I think a team of a hundred plus engineers that developed this engine know a little better than you.

I actually spoke with a Ford mechanic who told me the ecoboost engines were garbage.

So many of the ecoboost turbo vehicles are lining the lots at dealership and repair shops due to needing so many repairs. Turbos dying at 30K miles, engine blowing up at 40K miles.

Mike K4ISR - turbos dying ? What??
"Variable valve timing" started with the steam locomotive using Stephenson Valve Gear. This was not possible with the later Walschaerts valve gear.

crazyguy32100 you can turn this off
I you had actually ever driven one you would know how wrong you are. Scotty's nemesis, the "compootar" watches about 20 different parameters before deciding to shut down. And no, it won't with any activity still coming from the turbos, as well as many other factors such as temperature, grade, steering position, climate control, etc, etc. This is pretty basic stuff once you enter this century.

Scotty is a hater, he only likes Toyota…
He hates all American cars
The main thing with the Ecoboost (3.5 for sure at least) is STAY ON TOP OF YOUR OIL CHANGES! They need good clean oil. The timing chain is really long, the guides will wear and the phasers have tiny passages. Keep up your regular scheduled maintenance and they do just fine. They don't tolerate poor maintenance as much as other engines.
Strange. Ford 5.4 3v has the exact same problem. Small gunked up oil ports leading to cam phaser issues. Still everyone I know with one has gone 220-240k before selling or trading.
From what I understand is that the 5.4 3v suffered the same problem if oil changeds weren't adhered to religiously or poor filters/oil used. Now, maybe you did what you're supposed to but I've also seen that the oil pumps are not sufficient. There are aftermarket high flow ones.
Staying on top of maintenance is a requirement for ALL new engines. Look at the Toyota sludge problems a few years ago (just google it). I bet the majority of those owners who had issues would not be able to provide legitimate maintenance records. Same goes for any modern engine. They are much more highly stressed, rev higher, run hotter. Do what the owner guide says and you will most likely have smooth sailing.
@@bradleythomsen3083 Great example of the merits of maintenance. Very reliable and long life with proper oil and FILTER, problems if you don't.
@@anthonyvon4531 Exactly! Problem is that it makes buying a used vehicle risky unless you KNOW the maintenance has been done. And you are also correct in that they have to be the proper filter. There are so many junk filters out there with improper or missing drain back valves, poor or non existent filtration, flow and pressure control. It doesn't matter what i use, it gets an OE filter and the exact spec oil called out in the manual. Many years of driving, a couple million kms driven and not a single engine failure on any of vehicles i have owned.
Precisely why I didn't buy a new powerstroke until the 6.7 had the bugs worked out of it. I went from a 99.5 7.3 to a 2016 6.7 and love it.

The 1.6 in my Fiesta ST runs great.
Same, it's the perfect engine for that car. I had an SE fiesta first with the tivct 1.6, and it was passable but the lack of any torque below 3k rpm was really annoying. The ST is so much better in that aspect, just press the gas and it responds with acceleration. Gets about the same MPG as the non turbo SE from what ive noticed.
