Nick Holmes states: "This is a song about struggling through difficult times, and a point blank refusal to accept that the end is within range."
Guitarist Greg Mackintosh adds: "The first song written for 'Obsidian' so probably one of the closest in style to the previous album 'Medusa'.
It has quite a few different elements to it but is essentially a classic PL song. Doom laden, but hopefully heartfelt and subtle in places."

LYRICS:
No celebration for the damned
One last defiance on command
Receiving malice for mistakes
Rejoice as adversaries fall
As we fall from grace
And we touch deaths hand too soon
As we fall from grace, like you
Would the eyes of another god,
decide to end your life?
The defamation of the damned
This poison chalice you withstand
Receive, decry and slowly fail
Neglected, self-inflicted loss
As we fall from grace
And we touch deaths hand too soon
As we fall from grace, like you.
Through the eyes of another God,
decide to end your life?
We‘re all alone.
There‘s something inside me,
there‘s something unknown
A suffering sublime speaks, words I don‘t know
There‘s something inside me,
there‘s something unknown
A suffering that finds me, the eyes don‘t show
We‘re all alone
As we fall from grace
And we touch deaths hand too soon
As we fall from grace, like you.
Could the eyes of another God,
decide to end your life?

  • Nick Holmes states: "As a global crisis, it goes without saying Covid 19 has affected everyone and everything, including every aspect of the music industry. As a result, our record label Nuclear Blast offered us the chance to postpone the launch of our latest album 'Obsidian' to a less volatile time later in the year. Taking this into consideration, and the fact the live music circuit is currently in lockdown, we think it's unnecessary to postpone the release as we think our fans wouldn't want to wait. Music can be enjoyed in practically any environment, so therefore we are going ahead with the same release date 15.5.20, and we sincerely hope our new album helps to lift your spirits, and is a beacon of light in the dark during these uncertain times! Thanks for your continuous support through the years and see you on the road!"

    • I agree with you. I thought he did an especially good job with covering the wide scope of delirium and being manic while he was constructing that 'Gigeresque' contraption of his daughter's eye. The cinematography is top notch too. I really liked the swirling cam work in the beginning (Kubrick's 2021 anyone?). This is only my second video/song I've checked out from this band despite knowing about them for some time. Gonna check out their early work as well as their peers'... MDB and Anathema are also bands I've been slacking on too. :P

    • What I really like about some veteran bands these days is that they have really experimented and and tested their boundaries during the years and eventually ended up to be something that really feels like an updated version of their original selves. Their style is closer to the classic one than some records in between but they have gathered new elements on the way to keep it fresh. I think Kreator is another very good example of this.

    • Oooh Man I just have a single 6-string set. Too bad I didn't buy a 7-string one. Now I'll have to wait for the quarantine to finish to get those. Damn I got that guitar for a great price and never gave it a proper use. Now that I want to use it, I don't have strings...
