Ever wonder how much it costs to own a plane? I will cover the cost to own my Piper Comache 250 and compare it to the cost to own my previous plane, a Grumman AA5 Traveler.
If you want to be a pilot and fly planes, you are going to need the links below.

Bryan, thanks for the tip. I called Clemens and saved $600.
Heck yeah!!!!
BRYAN, WE HAVE SOME THINGS TO DISCUSS AS SOON AS I GET BACK FROM SHOPPING.
Does anybody know how I can block somebody from being able to see my channel?
😮 😂😂😂
Eren, can you talk to my wife and tell her how much you actually know about the plane expenses? That way I’ll have a baseline knowledge about what I can still keep secret about the costs…
😂😂
Totally hilarious!!!! Because it hits home sooooo hard!!😂😢
My 3rd cousin George is not too aware, sorry about that experience.
"It's quite possible you're gonna spend more money here (the engine) than you even paid to acquire the airplane." I can confirm that this is absolutely true.
LOL FACTS!!! I'm getting ready to purchase our 6th plane in my lifetime (one at a time) and when I start shopping my friends go "only $150k for a plane" while cars are pushing $110k now and they say "that's a great deal". I laugh and i tell them it's like owning an old house with wings. You never stop throwing money at it and something always needs fixing. And it might as well be a Lambo when you have to get work done on it when you're not at your home field. My wife values the comfort, speed and ability to visit her kids half way across the country more than the cost of ownership. She's always on board with having one available.
Unlike the car, as long as you're not buying new the aircraft will generally hold its value pretty well, especially if it's something common like a C182.
Well done on the shoulder harness. I totally 100% agree. Good shout.
There are 3 kinds of aviation wives: 1. The Hater 2. The Tolerator 3. The Enabler. Number 2 is common as long as they never see the true costs of your hobby, then they become a number 1....
Must be nice to have a wife like Janis Parr! ❤ She's a number 4, Full support!!
As a plane owner with a type 3 wife, I can tell you it's not as fun as it sounds. I wanted to replace the AP on our plane and long story short, my plane is at the avionics shop having the entire panel replaced because she wanted more...
Informative but still funny, as always. Hoping for more product testing/reviews in the future. Thanks!
Bryan, OMG !! This was a great one. Couple things though ..... My wife has started watching your channel with me and loves it so I was not able to jump off fast enough. The other was when we were looking for the next plane, we had kind of settled on what we were looking for. She calls me up and says, he if we get one of those the operating cost will be between x and y ! In that moment I was both proud and scared at the same time. LOL Keep up the great work, this was good info in your most unique and educational way. We see it did not take Eren long to chime in, good luck ! BTW My wife loves the money gun also, i think she is over there looking for one now. Take care.
I will say again that I have mad respect for people who are not afraid to just let others know the cost of things! Good job brother...
I had Jerry’s help with good coverage the last two years!!!
I actually went back last month to watch the Grumman video because I was thinking of outright ownership. The Comanche is closer to what I’m looking for so this video is perfect! And hilarious!
OMG That intro, I'm dying. I won't hurt you by telling you what kind of hangar I get for $185 a month.
Howdy Bryan with a Y, this is Chuck with a C. I put in 4-point inertia reels at the last annual. $2k for 2 sets and $6k to install. That and some other updates added up to $20k for the annual of which perhaps $4k was the actual annual Turbo 210
I went the same route .. Grumman (tiger) to Comanche 260B .. mostly for IFR stability .. so I could take longer trips in more IFR.. Loved the Tiger, but more utility in the Comanche... thanks for the vids :)
If you compare the distance traveled in 120 hours the Comanche flew 18600 miles. It would take the Grumman 177 hours to go the same distance. 177 hours at 8 gallons time $5.50 is $7780 plus 2 additional oil changes PLUS the reduction in cost of the engine value. It is actually cheaper to fly the Commanche. Tell that to Eren. You're welcome! You can buy me lunch next time I'm out your way😁
Good info, Bryan! Thankfully hangars are cheaper up here; other costs are about the same. Hence the reason I'm planning to buy experimental... 😄
Love your video's
Why I love being in a three way partnership in our Comanche 260B, not saying its still not eye opening and butt puckering sometimes but it helps.
Could you make another video "Why owning a plane is affordable and good for marriage?" I'd like to have something to show my wife.
Thanks!
Wow! Thank you!
You have a friend named George Glass? That's wonderful, Jan! That's wonderful!
Ah, you went there. I commented too fast
I blurted my morning coffee across the room when he said the name George Glass!! 😅😅😅😂😂😂
Funny but true And my annual is due to start any day now - hopefully it won’t hurt as bad as last years did
Geography is a big factor is fixed cost. I pay $150 p/month for a T-hangar, power and water included. There is a bathroom too. Half hour east and people pay upwards of $300 p/month for a pull through.
Excellent video Bryan. Hopefully my wife didn't hear me watching it. If so I'll probably have to move to Texas and I'll go half and half with you to get an enclosed hanger so we both have a place to stay 😂. My flight school confiscated my money gun, said it would be easier if I just let them do it. 😂 Keep up the excellent work as always. Safe skies 🇺🇸🛩️
👍☑ Tks BrYan!
Love this video - so true, I’ve got 2 airplanes and about all you can do is cry when the unexpected happens… like a stuck valve on my 75 year old bird the week before last. The other one is in annual, money gun fun times!
I'm _exceedingly_ lucky that my wife was the one asking when i'm going to stop playing MSFS and go get an actual pilot's license. I laughed and said it's waaaay too much money. We watched videos like this, have downsized the house, cut our budgets, and made plans. I'm done with ground school and start flight training in two weeks. She agreed we couldn't afford a Cirrus, but have been watching the trade sites for a C177, PA-32 series, or M20J plane.
Humorous and accurate . Thanks for the video. I recently flew my Flight Design light sport with a fuel injected Rotax to the Bahamas and back from Hendersonville NC. Total time 11 hours, fuel burn less than 50 gallons. Speed isn’t everything. But then again I’m a retired old fart who doesn’t have a schedule.
SO TRUE..
I just found this channel today. I cannot stop laughing! Man, your humor and wit are topshelf stuff. New subscriber!!!Hahahaha Hahahaha 10:58
16000 / 120 hrs = 133 p/hr. Nice. Great video.
I just got off the phone with Jerry Clemens. What a great broker!
I wouldn't mention him if he wasn't. He's a great guy
The answer is "Yes" and then a little something something extra on top of that!
Like J Paul Getty (oil man) said, If you have to ask what it will cost, you can't afford it. I owned 2 planes in the past.
I’m going to take the counter point here and actually say this is good advertising for plane ownership. Using the rate for the first 4 months of this year, I spent about 44% more than your quoted numbers as a full time renter.
Wow.
$1710 a year for my T Hangar with power. Gotta love Mississippi
Thats dirt cheap !!!! LOL !!!!!
I've been a very naughty girl by watching this. Now what are you going to do about that, fine me, report me... or what??? 😁 I do need to know where you got that money machine from! That thing is gold!!! 🤑
Hahaha. Nice blend of serious info with the comic harsh reality of aviation lol.
8:22 - If it's doing that while you're flying, I would assume that the cheapest solution would be to just stop flying like that. On a side note, I guess there are some perks to being forever single
Money gun. FOR THE WIN! 😂 Love it BT!
I going to need the link to the money gun. Standing by.

What spreadsheet were you using?
This vide is exactly why experiemental aircraft companies are winning big time! The cost of a new cessna 172 is over half a million dollars.....for a four seat trainer aircraft!!! Meanwhile you can get a fully loaded RV-10 (carries more and much faster) for a fraction of the price or you can buy a kit and build one for ever cheaper less than $100k.
definitely need to set up a high end printer, if you know what I mean....
Brady Bunch references out the wahzoo. Wassup with that, BrYan?
Coincidence
LOL this is exactly how I imagined owning a plane would be. Just tossing them $100s everywhere.
Jan Brady's George Glass?
Beat me to it by 32 minutes!!!
Those numbers sound pretty close to what I'm paying for a PA-24-250
the cost of commercial aircraft and the maintenance costs of them are stupid levels of expensive vs the costs of a general aviation aircraft
I'm going to try your insurance guy. I'm at 5k/yr quoted for my next plane. 🤑
I think Jerry will take good care of you
Commanche in the title but Bo in the thumbnail 😂
OMG! Seriously LOL. It's so true it hurts. Hence, I gave up flying until I'm a millionaire. Multimillionaire at that.
Bryan - did mom always say not to play ball in the house?
Marcia Marcia Marcia
Everybody should have an expensive hobby!
I watch and enjoy your videos and I'm a woman.
KZhead analytics lied to me!!!!! I kid!!!! I think it really shows something like 94:6 ratio.
Uhh yea I’ll just buy a boat haha. Good video btw
I had thought if I stopped doing crack, I could afford a plane. I guess I'm wrong
My GF asked me the other day what my Grumman Tiger cost! Lol
Come move in with me!
Do you have extra space in the basement? You should be aware that he might hog all your internet bandwidth.. And you might trip and break a leg on the misc aviation comedian paraphernalia like rubber chickens, whoopie cushions, E6B's and apparently now, money guns.
@@WolfPilot I’ll figure it out!
IN SCHOOL WE TRUST
It is getting expensive. It’s got me buying 40 W lightbulbs and peeing off the porch to save on the water bill 😎
Looks like 52f.. Denton’s hangars are $950/mos now 😂
Yep, I would love to be at Denton but there's no way I can pay what they charge for hangers. I'm paying $200 a month for my little hanger at Northwest
Pilots attire is another expense.
"If you see me AND all my belongings in the front yard..." Define "all your belongings", assuming your wife saw the video...
Let's hope the Comanche keys are included! 😂😂😂
Kinda like owning an exotic sports car that's parked outside in a dirt carport. What about expense differences between ownership and club rentals?
Depends on the mission. I’m in a club that i use for the few long trips I take a year.
I built my own paper airplane for free.
You can only do that if you can find free paper. When I was a girl, I got hold of a really big piece of paper and made a really big paper airplane. Then I took a small gummed notepad and made a whole bunch of little airplanes. So I had a mommy airplane, and a flock of baby airplanes. I kept them in my closet, so I guess you could say they stayed in an enclosed hangar. I think I bought the notepad out of my allowance. Other than that, everything was free. I didn't buy insurance, though. Luckily, I didn't poke anyone's eye out. Fast forward to college, and the paper airplane contest. Planes were to take off from the top of the 10-story School of Engineering building. My friend won it with a tiny square of paper he took from the Yellow Pages of a phone book. Unlike my dart shaped, Delta wing planes (the only kind I knew how to make), his was sort of a square shaped creation. He said it floated on the breeze. Like a butterfly, I guess. Free as a butterfly. Butterflies are free to fly?
😂😂😂
This video should be tagged NSFW; Not Safe For Wife.
If the wife sees the video that enclosed hanger is going to look a lot more attractive. Seriously, when your spending money on any hobby it should come down to how you feel about what you get for what you spend. Never mind it’s too late she saw it.
Yep, all it takes is truckloads of cash...no big deal. It's only money.
She spends her money, I spend mine. Unfortunately, my money has been deemed her money.😢 she has no clue what I’m spending and I’m not telling her. 😅
I think you just described 99% of the pilot population. 😂😂😂😂
Might as well have used Monopoly money.
You poor guys, I'm so lucky! My daughter says " dad, (my wallet took off running at that moment) you think you can help me fix up a aircraft so I can build time "? Why yes daughter! As long as I don't benefit from it at all and as long as you truly meant " dad, find it, buy it, buy all the parts and just tex me when your all done" and lucky for me thats EXACTLY what she meant. So guys I don't know what your crying about, I don't even own a aircraft ( I know!, I got really lucky right?)
How long did it take to iron and starch those doll hairs?
I also watch your videos and I’m a women pilot. Also have a plane - bust out another thousand oh wait that’s a boat.
If you need to ask it, you can't afford it.
My wife can spend faster than that money gun.
