Land Rover give as many free vehicles to the Bond movie creators they can use, because of the value of the exposure in those movies. If they didn't have the exposure, no one would buy one. People know what a POS Land Rovers are regarding reliability. Hugely expensive to buy, repair, and maintain - barely being on the road more than they being fixed. But they do make beautiful LOOKING vehicles. Just no one with a brain would buy them.

Im not a fan of Land Rover cars but you have to say its a good advert for the new Defender. Not sure how the suspension would really withstand those jumps, but for film making they don't worry about damage if they get the shots, and pretty sure nobody would do this anyway if its on PCP finance, which most will be.

I drive a Mitsubishi Pajero. No. They are totally different. The new Defender screams Defender. Mitsubishi don't have any balls anyway. They have discontinued the Pajero (aka Shogun & Montero) in all regions now, thus making the Pajero history.

@@ramondeanchors Not upset at all. I love the new Defender. I grew up around Defenders, the 90 'pickup version' with a canvas canopy on the back. I remember driving one with a huge hay trailer on the back. The new Defender is still a Defender. The Pajero is fantastic, but it is no Defender. Never has been. The old Defender, as much I liked it, simply was something that was not going to sell (in enough volume) anymore. I agree with the point often made about it being too luxurious and not enough of a workhorse, but people these days don't want workhorses. Not in the markets that count that is. I don't think you're comment about it being a 'silhouette' is fair. There is enough under-the-hood that makes it a Defender and most certainly not a Pajero. I live in Japan. The vehicles available here are mostly mid-sized SUVs, cars and compact cars. The only domestic manufacturer that continues to offer a full-sized SUV or 4X4 as I prefer to distinguish them by is Toyota. They have the Land Cruiser and Prado still in their line-up. NONE of the others have anything. The only full-sized 4x4 pickup is the Toyota Hilux Surf. The only non-Japanese manufacturers to offer 4x4 are Mercedes Benz and Land/Range Rover. The Defender here unfortunately still only comes with the option of a petrol engine - no diesel. As for getting a SUV (of any size) in manual transmission here, the only offering is by Mazda for their CX3/5 and the only reason for that is that their vehicles are the most popular choice for Driving Schools. I am one of the lucky ones that were able to buy a Pajero (back in 2006) with manual transmission but I was limited to the lowest spec and only a 3 litre petrol engine. I only hope that the outstanding success of the Jimny Sierra (Just Jimny in the UK?) makes manufacturers realise that there is a need and a want in the market for a 'proper' utalitarian SUV. The Jimny is fantastic, but it is too small for mine and many others' needs. I am disappointed with Land Rover that they did not offer a more basic passenger style vehicle with manual transmission though. Unfortunately, it is the current consumer market that has dictated what will sell and that is something we have to live with. Like it or lump it.

Have you seen the Rover ad where it drives up the steps? Its such a piece of crap they needed multiple vehicles to shoot it. Another ad that lies to us. Ford bought Land Rover & it was such a piece of junk they unloaded it to an overseas company to get rid of it. Sad they charge so much money for a vehicle that has so much wrong, is always in the shop & expensive to fix. You'd think someone would have the sense to build it right!? DUH!!!

The front right wishbone gets smashed at the end in the roll over , they cut the film and then it restarts with the car in a different position I guess to fix it first before it could move again . A bit of cheating going on there , what happens I guess when your desperate to try make out it’s as tough as she old one . That roll in an old one with those massive live axles wouldn’t have bust the steering , knackered the alloy roof maybe but it would have still been able to go under its own steam . Marketing hype at its best (ish)!
Mr Diavel actually no. If you look closely - after the roll, when the vehicle continues on, the right front wheel is badly toed-out and the alignment is way out of spec - probably barely drivable on pavement....
2MDSPORT TUNING you could be right but I think it’s more than alignment that right front wheel went almost at right angles to the car in slo mo, you certainly couldn’t have driven it anywhere without getting a big hammer out
