If you're brand new to building cabinets and a little anxious about trying it yourself, then you might find some comfort knowing that I was recently in the very same boat! I mustered up the courage and took a stab at it and found that it's actually not that hard if you build using some of the techniques I demonstrate. In this video, I start building a massive set of cabinet built-ins. Since the project is so large, I had to split it up into multiple videos. This episode is the second part of the series and covers making decorative arches, drawer boxes, installing drawer slides, countertops, making shaker-style doors, crown molding, installing the entire unit, and finally, putting on the door and drawer hardware.
Thanks to Rockler for sponsoring the video! Find out more about the products they have to offer at www.Rockler.com. Here's a list of the Rockler products I used in this project:

You sure were fortunate that your neighbor left all his way-cool Rockler jigs lying around.
Man Fisher what a beautiful built-in. Also the fact you built this all in your small basement shop is a quite the feet itself.
Thanks! Yeah it sure was a challenge
And the neighbor's stuff remained un-pilfered! Everybody won on this one! 😎
Haha, yup!
Loved the slow burn delivery on the hearing protection / glue up joke 👍🏻👍🏻
Drew, you have made some beautiful furniture in the past, like the coffee/gaming table. You are a true craftsman. If this project doesn't move the words "Master" and "Craftsman" closer together as an accurate description of your talents, I don't know what would.
I sure appreciate that but I don't consider myself remotely close to to a master. I honestly still consider myself an amateur hack that manages to somehow produce products that are slightly less offensive to the eyes the more I practice.
@@FishersShop then I will aspire to be an amateur hack. Lol
Good news! If you mount the hidden hinges on the front of the door, you can actually SEE them!!! Fantastic - for all the Fisher would-bes. Great galloping poop-sticks!! Marvelous crap. Simply Mahvelous. More please.
Haha, yes! I'm hoping to bring back "exposed hinges" as a new fad
I thought I'd watched both of these videos but I missed this one great as usual, I did a similar project with my nieces house last year. Two wall units and 7 floating shelves it was a big one. But the construction went well and the installation was better than I ever expected. I'm really pleased I was volunteered for it 😀
That is awesome! Usually I dread taking on big projects like this one but, like you, I was thrilled with the outcome.
Enjoyed the part 2 of the making cabinets project video Drew. I appreciate you showing mistakes and other bloopers. You all take care and God bless.
Thanks 👍
Hola! 🖐I finally got around to watching part dos. Excellent, excellent, excellent. What a nice looking piece of furniture. That looks amazing. Congrats on challenging yourself. Whenever I'm tackling something new like this, my brain already goes to "how am I going to fix my mistakes" - BEFORE I even begin. It is so satisfying when the job is complete though. Take care and have a good one, Adios! 👊
Thank you! Yeah, this was a big one to take on but I'm glad I did. I learned a ton and my confidence grew once I completed it. Now I feel like I can mess up a cabinet with the best of them. :)
One of the most creative calls for “like and subscribe” I’ve seen in a video. Well done as always.
Haha
Took 5 takes and a bottle of glue, but yes, very creative! 😉 (in related news, check outro Andrew Klein's outro....)
Ritz Crackers and Peanut Butter are my favorites what a video!!!
You called it a “slotted flat head” !!!!!!! There’s still hope for you!! LOL Loved the video
Hmm.... I'll have to make sure to omit "slotted" in the future. I need to maximize the annoyance-factor
ive been woodworking for decades, and i like watching woodworking videos to get some new ideas or techniques. ive made so many cabinets over the years i find cabinet building videos so boring id rather drive ice pick into my eyes than watch one. yet i do not hesitate one second to click on one when its a fisher's shop video. this might not sound like a compliment, but rest assured, this is one of the highest compliments somone could get from me
Haha, I'll take it! Thanks
Your videos always bring a smile to my face! Thank you for what you do!
You're welcome!
What's a Drew project without that lazy piece of Walnut thrown in there for good measure...and good measure it is...and the slotted screw makes its way in there...never gets old...now just paint the slot full for future infuriation. All in all though...the end result looks brilliant...and with the help of your two friends...great finish all up....great work Drew, John and Aaron...looks awesome!!!! Cheers from Sydney Aus!!!!
Thanks so much!
Has your neighbor suspected anything yet? Let me know if he gives you any problems. Lol. Keep em coming brother!
Love the new squeeze out sound! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Haha, me too! I went through a bunch of squish sounds until I found just the right one.
I absolutely love watching your videos! I love the humor and outtakes.
Thank you very much!
Great video, great commentary, door close got canine seal of approval, you got upstaged by the Dog !!. The hinges on front was a cracker living proof that "Nothing is totally foolproof to a suitably talented fool" !!
Haha, yup! Leave it to me to make the biggest bonehead mistake possible
the random slotted flathead screw just for the haters out there is priceless !!!! great video , Sir .............. greetings from Germany !
Danke! Glad you liked it
Great job! Cabinets are so basic but are a necessity. Adding arches, crown molding, and nice doors turn them from just boxes to furniture. The jigs sure take the headaches out.
Very true! Thanks, Jon
My wife and I did a jaw drop when we saw the drawer face mounting jigs. We wrestled so much with ours. Why didn’t you make this video sooner?!?!? J/k, thanks for this. Really helps. God bless!
They’re so awesome! Definitely a must have! Thanks for watching
I did a mud room for my granddaughter and didn’t get near the laughs you get. Keep’em coming.
Excellent work sir I am sure your friend will appreciate this for years to come
I sure hope so! Thanks, Matt
Love it 👍👍👍👍👍 Now all i need is end of the outtakes!
Great build! Looking forward to the "Oh Crap" outtakes...
Super awesome job man!! One tip though. Next time you have to make an arch like that, make your template from 1/4 inch thick materials. Strike the arch on it, then use the bandsaw/jigsaw to cut out the shape. Next take the template you made and use the edge sander to sand it down nice and smooth. Once that is done, clamp the 1/4 template to the 3/4 thick face frame material. Use a router and a pattern cutter bit to rout the final arch on the face frame. You will have minimal sanding to do this way because its way easier to sand 1/4 material than sand 3/4 inch material.
Thanks! Yeah, if I was going to be making lots of arches, your method would definitely be the right way to go. I figured with just a few that I'd do it the hard way. :)
Fantastic work, Drew! Really amazing looking cabinets! 😃 But yeah, there's no point in being pessimistic. It's never going to work either way! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks! 👍
Really nice build and couple of videos to share with us. Now surely time to go take a look and see what your neighbour has laying about to use in the next project :). Cheers!
That's the plan!
I agree with your neighbor that this is one of your very best builds - we enjoyed watching it, learning a lot and somehow no materials were sourced from his property - well done!
Haha. Thanks! :)
The jig used to hang the doors brought back memories. I had one for 16mm and 18mm cabinet bottoms. Sure it's packed away in a box somewhere. Also I felt the moment you drilled the door on the wrong side, been there.
Haha, yeah that was a heart breaker. Thanks for watching
Oh my gosh, that turned out so AWESOME!!! It might give your wife and your "one other friend" ideas for future projects you need to build! You've inspired me to possibly take on something similar. I worked for Rockler 10 years and they definitely have some great jigs to make the job easy, accurate and repeatable. Thanks for sharing the process of making this beautiful unit!
Oh wow! Yeah, I've definitely grown to really appreciate the products from Rockler. They're a fantastic company and I'm thrilled for the chance to work with them. Thanks for watching, Lori!
Wow that drawer slide jig is a game changer eh?! Genius. Edit: ok so *all* those Rockler jigs are genius! A really fab build Drew, I really enjoyed that, very well done, a superb achievement and expansion of your knowledge and skills. Turned out absolutely beautiful. Just can't wait for your next project for some more love and laughter. 💚🙏🇬🇧
Sure makes it easy!
Omg! You are so funny 😂! The bloopers were awesome! Keep them coming 😄
Thank you! Will do!
the like and subscribe glue caligraphy was great. well done. liked just from that.
Haha. Welcome aboard
cracking job Drew 👍Friendly tip for doing the hinges, dont use a square on each hinge instead use a level to span across the back of both or even 3 at the same time. this will make sure all hinges are inline with each other. Only a tip for you or others that may read this is all what you did also works and is good kind regards Conor
Good tip! Thanks, Conor!
Lol I relate so much to your crown moulding intro 😅
😅
All I want for Christmas is world peace... but a few Rockler jigs wouldn't be so bad 😁 Thanks for another great video
You're very welcome! :)
Good to see that someone else is staining Poplar since it has a reputation for being a paint grade wood. I think if you find boards without the green tint it comes out beautiful.
Yup, that's what I did. I searched for really blonde boards and they took the stain really well.
That turned out beautifully 👍👍👍
Thank you! 😊
Now Rockler needs to come up with a jig that helps you attach hinges to the BACK of the door and keeps you from doing the front!🤔😉
Exactly!!
I’m a “lotta apprehensive” about a job like that. 😂😊😊
Great job, Drew! Great products by Rockler too.
Thanks! Yes they are!
I like the change-up from "crap" to "poop sticks" cracked me up along with "this is why you're paying me extra." Great video all around.
Haha
Out-takes are the best. Thanks for being real - and very nice job on the cabinets!!
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching
Unnecessary walnut AND a slotted screw - Atta Boy !
Nothing but the good stuff for you guys!
@@FishersShop All that's missing is lumber from the neighbors fence.
... and stop distracting ME with your fancy glue swirls! 😂
Thank you for pushing yourself. I am doing my first full kitchen. The couple is in our Sunday school class. And I love helping others. She just had major surgery and It will be a great help to have a real kitchen. The house was built in the 40s and the kitchen is minimal at best.
Awesome of you to bless them with your work!
So…part 2 . Just as good as part one. Cabinets look fantastic and have given me a slightly less negative bravado as you had in part 1. Lol. JK. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
You bet! Thanks for watching, Ted
All that I expected and more. The best part was the the homemade jig to position the cabinet doors. Stroke of genius. Caulking the crown and the wall was the icing on the cake. beautiful job.
Thanks, Robert! I think the caulking was probably my favorite part. It sure took it the rest of the way to the finish line.
Good build man. Came out beautiful. Love your sense of humor too. 😂
Glad you enjoyed!
I'm shocked after watching you for years to find you have never installed crown molding. it turned out great. Thanks for posting all your videos. They've not only been great entertainment, but a wonderful knowledge port! Thank you again.
Thank you very much!
“Just for you” 😂😂😂
Love your videos and your sense of humor. Thank you for your witness of your faith in Jesus.
Thanks, brother!
Thanks for your encouragement
You're very welcome
This was fun to watch Drew! It came out incredible. Nice work sir
Thanks a bunch!
NICE Job!! I would say I 'reinforced' my skills as much as learning new tricks, but in the process, you earned my subscription. Looking forward to watching more of your stuff....
Thanks! And welcome
The cabinets look great. Nice work Man!
Thanks a bunch!
Well done and done well. The challenge you engaged was appropriate to your skills. As you mentioned, Rockler was a great helping hand with the amazing clamps and jigs. Final product is perhaps your finest to date. I really enjoyed this batch of video entertainment. Thanks Mr Fisher.
Thanks again!
“Like a fat contortionist with a back problem” I laughed out loud!!! 😂
That's me!
That turned out (Despite your failed attempts to mess it all up) really beautifully done!!! Job well done and thanks for the shared knowledge 👏 👏👏👏✋✋
Thank you very much!
Your videoes are always super fun and informative.
Well thanks!
I watch all your videos, even if most of them are not furniture I need or are too difficult for me to make. But why miss the chance to spend a few minutes with a brilliant and nice person? There aren't that many around the world...😉 Thanx and God bless you...
Well thanks for that! Calling me brilliant though is quite a stretch. lol!
@@FishersShop I'm sorry, but I'm Italian and maybe my English isn't as perfect as I like to think... but you're funny and this is important...😂😂
Wow Drew this came out great. I need a neighbor like you. Rocklear definitely has some great jigs, but you have to know how to use them and you clearly do.
Lots of trial and error. Haha. Thanks, Kevin
If you're Drew's neighbour, keep an eye on anything made of wood!
I always have a good time in Fishers shop. No exception here. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Thanks, you too!
This Looks Amazing!
That part with your(?) daughter is really cute! Has someone been watching a lot of restoration style videos, or is something else the inspiration between a few of your shots there? 😁
That's my friend John's daughter. Not sure what you mean by my filming style.
@@FishersShop she's adorable, I love kids enthusiasm and excitement! It was just the "like and subscribe" and a couple of your sound effects were very reminiscent of tropes of all these "restoration" channels on KZhead. I didn't mean your filming style had changed, your videos are always unique and thoroughly entertaining.
This turned out amazing!
Thanks, Jason!
Wow, these cabinets came out awesome! I'll have to look up how those weird angles work on the crown molding, I'd have cut them all on a 45 😝
Haha, that would work provided you weren't laying the crown flat. It's just a little awkward and not the safest to do it that way
Beautiful as always
Excellent how to video and a beautiful result. Well done!
Thank you very much!
Very enjoyable video. Thank you for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it
It's beautiful. Excellent work!
Thank you very much!
Great job Drew!
Thank you , sir!
The Rockler jigs appear to be well thought out and functional. The average guy who doesn't have Rockler "help" them out should figure making no profit and probably working for next to nothing to get this tool set up. Then pray you get to do a couple more projects to make up for the investment. Great work Drew.
Seriously, the front of the door!? 😆 Stuff like that never ever happens to me. never. ... oh, who am I kidding.
Hehe, thanks for watching, Art! :)
Fantastic work and description. Great job
Thank you very much!
Paying you extra.. "That's right, wait I'm paying you!??!"
Subscribed to enjoy more of the sense of humor. Great video.
Welcome aboard!
BEAUTIFUL!!
Thank you!!
Excellent and hilarious as usual. Fortunately no issues with the crown molding. Whenever I've had to cut compound miters, I tend to cut the angle to wrong way. You have a lucky friend.
Yeah, the crown was a challenge to figure out, but once I did it was pretty straight forward
Very nice work, Drew
Thanks!
Awesome work, video and outtakes! Thank you for the inspiration.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video as always! I would love to see how you go back and fill the screw holes. I'm sure it's a simple task, but as a beginner, seeing every step would be most helpful. Keep up the great work!
The screw heads were touched up with an artist's brush in the end by the painter.
Love Fisher. Cool Dude
“Isn’t that the front of the door? 😂😂😂
What an absolutely beautiful piece. You may have to give up your day job as a referee for the WWF to go into woodworking.
I'll never give that up
I think this is my favorite build to date. It turned out amazing!!!! Keep up the incredible projects and the high comedy. (A flathead screw for those people) 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks, Ryan! :)
It looks awesome. You made it look easy man and I know from experience that it ain't.
Thanks 👍 I appreciate that!
Looks great.
Laker and Ella ❤
Turned out beautiful. Need to bring Aaron on to tell us how he made his door hanging set up for painting. Looks like a great design.
He purchased it. There's kits out there specific for that
Thoroughly enjoyed the series. Beautiful work, as usual. Your commentary had me smiling the whole way thru. Thank you.
Thanks! Glad you liked it
Love the dad jokes and the work, turned out really beautiful. As always, really enjoying your videos
Glad you like them!
Nice job Drew. That looks awesome.
Thanks 👍
Drew, I am praying for you and your family during the holidays! Thanks for all you do for us in the woodworking community! Awesome build! This project came out beautifully!
I appreciate that! Thanks so much!
Another nice one 🙏👍😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Drew, I am in the middle of a office cabinet build as my first cabinet project. So I know the feeling at least I haven’t drilled the holes on the wrong side of the cabinet…. yet
Leave it to me to mount the hinges on the wrong side.
SUPER DE BEAU CABINETS BEAU TRAVAILLE
Merci beaucoup
Looks good you did a great job.
Thank you, sir
