  • My Mom taught me to turn the pillow case inside out, put my hands inside and grab the corners and then grab the corners of the pillows and turn the pillow case right side out over the pillow. This ensures that the pillow is in the right place and on straight.

  • For my hospital corner, i tuck the foot end in, then diagonally lift the side up onto the bed, tuck the tail in, then fold the edge back down over the long side and tuck in the sides. Hard to explain but the sides help keep the corner nice because they’re tucked in after. ❤

  • My mother was an Army nurse in WW2 - always tucked the lowest part first and then made the tuck towards the front of the bed - 45 degrees - never tucked in the sides.

  • Have you ever tried the rolling technique on the duvet? Very quick and easy to do! Inside out duvet cover on the bed first, duvet insert on top, duvet cover opening at the top of the bed, start rolling from the bottom (or I fold twice instead of rolling), grab corner and flip it inside out.

I have heard of people who hold the pillow under their chin and put the case on the pillow but have not seen that yet. Also just wondering where you got your pillows from. They look so comfortable to sleep on. I live in Burlington Ontario Canada. I just find it very fascinating to watch videos of people changing their bed sheets,don’t ask why it’s something that I live with.

I do not tuck in the sides, that's not comfortable. Next is the quilt bedspread and then pillow in the sham and placed on the bed.

  • Can anybody explain it like for dummies - what’s the role of that upper sheet? Not from US

    @dominique6861@dominique68614 ай бұрын
    • I'm assuming that in your country you use duvet covers (?!)... They aren't big and rarely even known of is bc of the stores etc. A big part of that reason where most people in the US buy their bedding pre Amazon in big department stores like BBB &Macy's , malls, they typically show a fully designed bed (what comforter with what throw blanket and pillows etc) and those beds are made with comforters.. Can't really show a duvet in plain white etc as a style to add etc in a sense. Comforters are basically a duvet insert but with the cover .. design (usually with thick piping on the edges) already attached/ sewn on it. It's a big, thicker, sometimes even heavy fabric like cross stitching with fill I. E. Cotton, etc NOT down. They also have what's called "bed in a bag " which were well liked and purchased during a particular decade and that has stuck with some I e my mother. It included the sheets, pillow cases, pillow shams, bed skirt and if you were lucky sometimes a throw pillow decorative pillow. No thinking, everything matched and at a good price. Many are also cheaper (vs buying a quality, down duvet that is literally an investment in the hundreds of dollars vs comforter) people that aren't aware of the duvet cover think, "I don't want white..."... "I want this pattern" .. ".. matching my sheets/ bedroom..." etc etc not knowing how much better and versatile a duvet cover is and there's a bunch of different ones to choose from! So with that in mind 😂: A comforter (that doesn't use a duvet cover) doesn't need to be washed as often. I've known people that have gone years without 🤮 even your average 2x a year is horrible for people like me with pets that sleep in bed. Also, most washers aren't big enough so you must go to the dry cleaners and use an industrial machine or (and some say you must) get it dry cleaned. To protect your comforter YOU USE A TOP SHEET! which is basically one size of a duvet cover lol! As a matter of fact, over the years, I've been noticing that hotels are not using duvet covers (imagine the time) they use 2 top sheets. One on the bottom and the other on top and then the duvet is sandwiched in between the two. Also, besides time saving it's perfect for hygiene and they just have to buy more top sheets lol trying to think if I missed anything hehe

      @ftumi@ftumiАй бұрын
    • You're probably wondering why she's using a upper / top sheet even though she's using a duvet cover? I can't tell you personally why she does but, i literally did that and once in a while still do because, I'm so used to having a comforter (as described btw our household would have a linen closet full of them.. One time there were 9! Now thinking about that hmmm i also thought usually in Europe vs the US there are a lack of closets and/or smaller living homes etc.People usually use armoires and closet space is such a luxury! Also, In the USA to have a "legal" bedroom (a room considered a bedroom that you can list for example: 4 bed/5 bath.. Vs . (I have a laundry room/ office room that's bigger than my bedroom that's not the primary if it weren't for the built-in cabinets i would move into that one! No closet. If we were in Europe i could list my house saying: 5 bedrooms instead) Basically, no closet added in the bedroom it's not considered a bedroom! Whole point of mentioning that is the lack of space and usually in the US it's mostly about quantity! Also, when i ask American Born people about their bedding (yes, i do lol have) for example mostly why don't you just get a duvet cover? One answer i forgot to mention above is " that's more bedding i need to buy!" thinking they're buying a comforter and ( just) ALSO adding/ buying the duvet cover really for looks (remember the white etc comment from above) it's not seen as a cleanliness reason easy to wash etc. Also, growing up with fitted and top sheets as the norm (for cleanliness lol) when you see or get in a bed without a top sheet it's like ugh gross! I think it's due to cultural norms and what we're used to. That's why I've added my top sheet by accident ( For lack of better words lol) it's easier too when you buy a sheet set which are more common in the US (they include pillow cases, one fitted sheet and one top sheet) come to think of it I've purchased minimum of 6 sheets (sets) within 2 years due to decor change (lol), dog mess that couldn't be washed out etc and i don't remember even seeing sheets separately on Amazon. You have to look for that in particular. Yes, I've explained..."... Think of the duvet cover as your top sheet..."..."think of the time you save and how easy it will be to make your bed..2 sec just fix your duvet"

      @ftumi@ftumiАй бұрын
    • Background: I'm a dual citizen. When I was young I spent 6 months in the US and the other 6 in Europe. As I got older with school etc I would go every Christmas Holiday/ vacation and every summer which added up to roughly 4.5 -5 months. My mother came to this country at 14 and my father is first generation. So, I'm used to both. But, I can tell you I didn't pay as much attention to bedding probably bc they weren't mine (staying with family and also we would drive all over during the summer , hotels)! I do know the exact day I started to understand/ realize things were different. It was a freezing winter's night at my uncle's parents'home. Heat on probably the lowest just so the pipes didn't freeze! It was literally bone chilling cold to the bone, jumped into bed and pulled the covers to my nose. And OMG! I was warm in an instant, it was the most comfortable bed that I had ever been in (also had a feather bed etc), so soft, fluffy and really high lol I took notice of the main duvet (wanting my mother to get one she was in the bed with me and agreed!)I looked for the tag and couldn't find one 😂🤦‍♀️ my mother said, ".. it's feathers .. there's a cover like a big pillow case on top of it...!" That blew my mind! Please remember I was also still in grade school, lol . In the morning (after having the best sleep lol with hardly any heat ), checked, well, inspected the bed from top to bottom lol I want to say that I didn't realize that there wasn't a top sheet but, there were a bunch of things on the bed besides the duvet. I remember a throw blanket, the duvet, a quilt, a harder thin material blanket etc. There was a lot! But, I'll assume there wasn't! And that's where my questions started and my fascination with them etc. Lol sorry to say, I still haven't found anything comparable!!! I can't ask them, my uncle's parents, because they passed away 😢) also think it's more of a " should have done my search and purchasing over there" I did research on fill vs loft etc and still messed that up 2x buying online bc I now live in FL . I'm looking for a fluffy, with some weight to it (love sleeping with a weighted blanket but it's too hot) thickness as in air and fluff but 100% down and air lol if that makes sense. The down duvets and duvet inserts marketed for summer/ warmer climates are usually very, very thin and oddly crunchy lol maybe that's the shell rubbing on itself, who knows lol but, definitely not what I'm looking for! I thought it was higher fill etc with one I paid $300 for used it a month or 2 bc it was comfortable then spring came around. But, it wasn't what I was looking for. I even tried a tip I saw on KZhead saying to buying a queen duvet cover (one smaller than your duvet) stick the king size duvet into the queen sized duvet cover! It smashes it in there, bunching it up. Giving it a fuller appearance and fluff to it. Have any recommendations? Again, another long winded comment.. apologies 😂😋🤗

You blanket, or duvet , comforter etc sits on the sheet when you sleep, this way it doesn't touch your skin, hence get dirty. You only need to wash your entire bedding, plus mattress etc...every 2-3 months.
