A non-venomous Grass snake (Natrix natrix) was swallowing a large European toad (Bufo bufo) for 5 hours! Toads have parotoid glands which produce poison, but Grass snakes seem to be unaffected by it. The snake opened its mouth wide and slowly overpowered the toad. Flies started to lay eggs on the toad during this process! This scene was filmed in a forest kindergarten in the Czech Republic.

  • I am always amazed that a snake's lungs can function when ingesting such huge prey items. The kindergarten looks excellent!

    • Yes, it is amazing. But you probably know that in most snakes only one lung is functioning 🙂 There is simply not enough space for both being large. Zuzana is happy that you like the kindergarten!

  • 3:37 The toad isn’t fighting, it looks like it’s trying to help the snake by pushing itself into the snakes mouth

    @TheWaynelds@TheWayneldsАй бұрын
    • It is trying to inflate its body and it hopes that the snake will not be able to swallow it. That’s the only strategy there.
