    • You are correct @jpmnky and I've been a fan for over 60 years. You stole my thunder, but it's cool that we saw the same thing. I was thinking about a comparison and couldn't really come up with another QB. I think I've come up with a comparable athlete, though you'll have to stretch your imagination a little bit and go with a different sport...Fred Couples. Both could launch missiles with a slow, almost effortless delivery. They looked artistic...almost lazy. Both were cool under pressure and are Hall of Famers. Both are underrated and each remained competitive longer than their peers.

André Johnson, a half-decent RB. Montana _had_ Jerry Rice. & in 1990 with Moon beating him in virtually every passing stat without that advantage the MVP still went to the White Guy adding privilege to it.

  • Warren Moon is the prime reason I call for the Pro Football Hall of Fame to change it's name to the NFL Hall of Fame. Another reason is the CFL is older than the NFL. No players who played in other Pro football leagues are in it unless they played in the NFL. Warren Moon has the most passing yards out of any QB in pro football history with his stats in the CFL and NFL combined.

    • I consider him the be the second best quarterback to never win a Super Bowl. Watching him run the Oilers Run & Shoot offense during the early 90s is the first time I realized there were different offensive systems. Warren Moon ran the 'RnS' offense so well that I concluded it must be the superior offensive system in the NFL. I even remember arguing with my elementary school friends that my favorite team should use it even though my favorite team just won the most recent S/B. I eventually changed my mind gradually ► over the next ~18 months I learned/realized two key facts: (1) the 'RnS' requires exceptional QB play to successfully run that offense in the NFL, and (2) Mark Rypien was not Warren Moon. Looking back on it later, I honestly don't think any of his contemporary QB's could have run that Oiler offense as successfully as Warren Moon.

I loved the Houston Oilers sky blue and white uniforms with the red trim on the side of the pants. One of the best uniforms next to the chargers original uniforms. Moon almost made it to the Super Bowl if not for that back and forth tough game with Buffalo in the division playoffs of 92. I still have an ill feeling in my stomach to this day just thinking of that game because they had it if only the defense could have held. I mean fran had under 4,000 rushing yards and Randall was closer to 5,000 in less seasons. This is more than 20% better output on the ground. That he was able to then kick arse in the NFL after, is a huge testament to his ability. IWith slight;y better teams, my gooodness, who knows how many rings he'd have.

  • I'm 66 and not really a fan anymore since the nfl became left-wing political but I talk about Warren Moon all the time. I loved watching him play in Houston's run and shoot offense. Watching Warren Moon zip a 60 yard bullet to his receivers that looked as though it took no effort was a thing of beauty. No one else in the league could throw a football like that. If the Oilers had a defense back then they surely would have won multiple SBs with Moon at QB.

  • I still think he's talked about plenty, but it might be a generation gap like you said in another comment. Warren was one of my favorite quarterbacks, and I loved him on the Houston Oilers. I think what might hurt is legacy is a couple of things. One is that he doesn't really have any signature moments in the playoffs unfortunately, and he's been on the end of some gut-crushing losses. In particular from 1991 to 1993 there was the last minute loss to the Broncos, the epic collapse to the Bills, and the collapse against the Chiefs. And Warren for as decorated as his career was, he never even made a championship game appearance. Pretty sure he's the only HOF QB with that stigma attached. He also fumbled a lot. Regardless, he was still a spectacular quarterback. Just had some bad luck on some good teams. No one really blames any of those playoff losses on Warren really.

  • Canadian and CFL fan here. Moon was a great QB in both leagues. But I often get the impression US football fans give Moon a little too much credit for Edmonton's 5 consecutive Grey Cups. The Edmonton franchise has been to four of the previous 5 Grey Cups before Moon's arrival, even if their only win in that span was the result of their opponents botching the snap/hold on what would have been a game-winning chip shot field goal. Moon was a huge part of the 5-in-a-row, but he wasn't the sole, or arguably even the main reason for it. That team had an awesome defense and special teams (by CFL standards) and I say that as a fan of Edmonton's provincial rival, Calgary. Putting an NFL HOF-caliber quarterback on a random CFL team will not necessarily result in a CFL dynasty, or even a single Grey Cup. Moon's history doesn't prove otherwise, because that Edmonton team wasn't random. Otherwise, great video.
